I'm pretty new to this fierce game of rhyme,
never been the one to compete with such pros,
but I'll take my rounds and learn to climb,
until every poet pays to sit in on my shows.

    :D

Now that's the attitude I sought to find
Come on out guys! Teach us how to rhyme
You have two ladies waiting to read your mind
But hey the clock is ticking, you are running out of time.

Ok...I'm not going to speak in rhyme because I'm taking this question as a serious one...??? Just using the last post as an example

Now that's the attitude I sought to find

You have abab which is rhyme but the meter is way off..I know you were just mucking around but...if you seriously want to learn about rhyme you need to watch that :)

The best rhymer on this site was Frank Maguire (gone now)...let me try to find a poem by him as an example....that is...if this was a serious post?

    Oh the meter?
As in words per line? Or as in iambic, trochaic, etc ...

    Rhyme rhythm,
    broken record
    more offput than Joanna Eberhart
    concerning Stepford.
    Got a penchant for
busted rhythms call it hipster syndrome,
    formed poetry makin me
    feel older than Flintstone.
    Go ahead, pencil in criticisms,
    opinions, the big ones.
Won't ever stop writing free verse.
I break rhyme of my own will
    'cause f*** volition.

There once were two from PnQ
who said to give rhyming it's due
    some gave up the ghost
    but others did post
I wrote about glasses of brew.

When he says singing it includes writing, reciting... ...you should read Lorca (your language)
but doing so you can not ask question because they evaporate.

I'm sure Dylan's Visions of Johanna
would drive most all of you half bananas
singing some folk songs like old Susana
while the naive and freestyle Pollyanna's
think to hear a pro rhyme the first word
with the other three times is as absurd
as the first line rhyming well with the third
when it's natural as a mocking bird
Was Robert Zimmerman just a loner
before they ever called him a stoner
With a borrowed poets name like Dylan
    He popularized slang while freeewheelin

My need for fun in this world is gone
    O gosh I am done
    Bring me a gun
    On and on
    Life
is like "buns on the run"
But if you drop your bun
if the bun and the fun are gone
    you are only left
    with your hand
    burdened
    with a loaded gun

    Not talking about the brother
or father of a wannabe cop
    I'm talking about no other
than the one that was on top
at least after a paypal went viral
and he sat in the courtroom like a potted palm
then things came out and began to spiral
to hypnotize me into the calm
    before the perfect storm
    That everyone was talking about
    in some kind of form
Most, who have not, will no doubt
understand better my mysterious relentless rhymes
    Your verdict will lie within
from the Miami Herald to the Philadelphia Times
    If you watch much HLN

    Jordan,
    formed poetry makin you
    feel older than Flintstone?
write a couple of new ones,
make us feel like the Rugrats.
    This is a new era
    But free style reads
    like a journal
    More like a diary entry
I think rhyme is a tough one.
    This is general speaking
    Not personal.

RM, Lorca... I like his poem Arbole, Arbole. The spanish version sounds better it doesn't allow me to ask questions.

    So you know him

I am glad that you conceded,
sometime there is no understanding needed.
Sometimes the real meaning is seeded
    where the understanding is unheeded!!

Free verse doesn't HAVE to sound like a diary. I've never read anything by Basho that sounded like a diary, and the only form he ever used was haiku.

What I like to do is use internal rhyme, off rhyme, alliteration, enjambment, and slight phonetic alternations to create my poem's sound. Check out my latest poem 'Le Soleil, La Lune.' It's a perfect example of this.

A rhyme scheme can be nice, that's a given, but it's a huge task to keep it from sounding archaic. I've read a lot of rhyming poetry on this site and I'll be honest - I could take it or leave it. Just as it takes skill to create free verse that doesn't sound boring and flat, it takes skill to write formed rhyming poetry that doesn't sound like it was written by a 19th century Dandy.

Check it out! Even greats like Whitman and Dickinson wrote in free verse from time to time!

True, free verse doesn't have to sound like a diary entry but I found out that it's bound to, specially the one that is written on the spot. I mean there's nothing wrong with them, they are vents and also poems. it's just that from time to time is refreshing to read good rhymes. That's why I was wondering what happen to those rhymers. . . How come I barely see ballads in this site?

As far as the haiku, I don't consider that one as free verse. . . per se
I think is a type of form poetry that has its own restrictions and those restrictions allow the poet to think through before writing every single thought that comes to their minds..

Let me check your poem and those others.

    I can never forget
    that month of June,
When I was in the rain
    kissing my moon.

    Dressed in white
    (my only desire),
    Cool winds were blowing
    our hearts on fire.

    I was no longer
    on my feet,
    Her love was enough
    for me to breathe.

    Depths of the rivers
    and colors of the skies,
    The world of my dreams
    had come into her eyes.

    I was under
    the spell of my doll,
    and the rest of it....
    wasn't too bad at all.
