Mods...

  • Hellon

..once again I find myself disappointed in you all...you just don't come on here very much these days so...if you are bored with the site or you cannot meet the agenda that is required of you...(just simply having one of you signed in at any given time would be good...I've actually been on here for more than 12 hours today and have only seen one mod signed in)..please consider how members with a particular problem/question may feel when there's no one here to answer it...I understand this is not a 24/7 situation but..come on...you must have known about the criteria before you took on these responsibilities and no...I do not want to see you all posting saying...well if you want me to resign...been there..done that..NO I don't...I just want you to show your ghostly faces a bit more...and if you can''t please say why?... and...while I'm having my quarterly rant...wasn't Sher giving up her modship?...we had a whole thank you senario if I remember correctly and yet....well...she still appears to be a mod so can she not be replaced...think Colm was the replacement back then but ...Emmm get on top of things eh?

  • Larry Chamberlin

    I am here.

  • Britt

    Lol....

I can't help but crack up at your comment Larry. I don't know why it struck me funny. After Hellons.. rant? tangent? long post?, your reply "I am here".

    Tee hee. I'm clearly tired.

  • Chelsey

Lol well Larry is correct, he and Colm are the only ones I usually see here....although I think Silvershoes popped her pretty little self in my apology thread...

The thing I could say to fix this, is even though Mods defense is always "should I resign?" and we are nice and say no...maybe the majority should. Maybe it is time to switch things up.

The only problem I see happening are a younger, bit immature crowd wanting to volunteer as a Mod. Because those seem to be the people who are active and online a lot....which lets face it, immature, young people can't handle that responsibility and dont have the knowledge to handle tough situations on here...(besides Maryanne. Shes 18 and acts 35 lol)

so how can we fix this once and for all??? Because it seems the activity on PnQ has just died in general. In which case, is there a point for mods to be on more? if no threads are posted, no monitoring needs done, whats wrong with their once a day log in for an hr or so to get behind the scenes work done?

Im mostly just brainstorming here now too since this is the second time youve posted this Hellon. I think its a good reason to swap out Mods for those who have more time, but then again those who have more time MAY not be fit for the job. (not saying all young people are childish haha) I just have paid attention to those who are online for long periods, and they dont seem to be...well, Mod ready.

  • Britt

"(besides Maryanne. Shes 18 and acts 35 lol) "

I don't know about that.... the 35 year olds I know are pretty immature. :P

    I'm not helpful at all.

  • Larry Chamberlin

    I'm 63 but think like 19.
    But at 19 I thought like 35.
    At 35 I thought like 90.
Maybe one day I'll think like my age.
    Hope not.

  • Chelsey

Shut up. You both know what I mean lol.

Larry, in your daily life you may think like a 19 yr old, but we all know youre professional when it comes to handling business.

why you guys have pick apart what I say? You know what I'm freaking saying!! lol

  • Britt

Because you make it so easy?

  • Poet on the Piano

Larry is such a wise-cracker (in a positive way) :D
Lol Britt...and thank you Chels!! I get what you mean too....although I'm still very young and inexperienced, I sure don't feel older because I turned 18!

I noticed too this is the second time Hellon mentioned and posted her concerns. I liked a lot of the "brainstorming" Chelsey talked about. Lately, I have noticed the past few weeks have almost been dead silent except for some conversations in personal clubs and then some commenting, but not group talks like these.... I too see Larry and Colm around quite a bit, and if there's isn't much posted that's new or publicly posted questions/concerns, then I can understand why the mods would only do what they need to when logging in for a few hours.

I know many people work and barely have time to get on here during the day... I'm not working yet so usually I'm here on a daily basis but I know I could have posted more too to bring back the spirit and liven whatever boards up because I'm here normally everyday, so I don't blame the mods or anybody, I think it's become a bit familiar to just stick to my own club or not reach out in being the one to start topics.....but how do the mods feel about their position? Little change can be good and beneficial but only if they want a break or believe someone else could be just as mature, knowledgeable, and apt in dealing with concerns in the community as well as the overall well-being of it.

  • Darren

Maybe because it has been quiet, there isn't anything to moderate.

I can remember being told that the main boards are a scary place and to be careful....

the only thing I have to watch now is the tumbleweed.

I blame candy crush saga myself.

  • L

    Darren,
I also remember the same that main boards are a scary place and to be careful...

It has been more quiet than on other occasions but I think it's due to the lack of participation from members.

  • Michael D Nalley

For those of us who remember the scary forums we still hear the theme to "Jaws" in the back of or minds somewhere. lol

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the forums

  • Chelsey

Lmaooooo Tumbleweed...jaws...hahaha now those comments were funny!!

So people cant have discussions then without being disrespectful? I mean politics and religion were always what got people going. But that shouldnt make it quiet in here because there are more threads people can come around on. ..challenges, random discussion...

But Hellons post about plastic bottles, that was interesting..or Ive posted about vending machines in schools, should they be taken out?....normal convo's to strike up some chitter chatter...people should jump in!! You really cant be too insulting with those topics unless youre a complete ass, and I dont think anyone here is a complete ass...maybe half of one. lmao jk.

I just think people need to stop being scared. If you see a random thread jump in. ..discussions can be fun ya know. Just keep religion and politics out of it.

And if no one wants to jump in, maybe it should be left alone and the mods should be left alone. After all this is a poetry site, so if we have come to the place where the arguing has only made people want to be here for poetry, so be it. Theres nothing to moderate but maybe some praised comments and plagerism.

  • Larry Chamberlin

    I'm curious.
Is the Forum still a scary place? Are people still afraid of being upbraided when taking part in a conversation?

Or are the more antagonistic members no longer here?

By the way, I'm not always up to speed on things. I'm only half-fast.

  • Poet on the Piano

Nice Michael haha....I'll have that stuck in my head now!

True point Chelsey! There is so much we could talk about and get people's opinions about without it relating to religion or politics...just something light that can be informative and fun at the same time.

That's true also if people are just wanting to focus on poetry, then they will until maybe there is a discussion that interests them or is intriguing, we can learn so much from people on here I know, not just from their poetry either!

Larry, hmm that's a good question. I sometimes feel shy starting a thread and having my name up there, but I did one with talking about why books matter a few months ago...more often I'll read and maybe not say a comment because I don't know the topic or someone already said something similar. But nothing can hurt, even if it's just a stop in to say this is interesting...at least people can know then that word's getting around :] I want to get more involved because I've felt more comfortable with that over the past year and now that some new threads are going up that aren't necessarily all political (sometimes it's just exhausting to keep up with) I'll have a go

  • L

Is the Forum still a scary place?

Mr. Larry there are ghosts in PnQ's walls, they read every single word...

    but they are not antagonists.

  • Hellon

My rant was made out of pure frustration and, sometimes I don't really think before I post. I'm glad some people actually agree with some of the things I said and...as we are brainstorming may I suggest that Britt be promoted to modship, even temporarily? (Not sure if she'd be willing) Just seems like an easy option as she already knows the ropes and would not need any training. Just a thought.

  • Britt

"as we are brainstorming may I suggest that Britt be promoted to modship, even temporarily?"

Why are we throwing me under the bus here? Am I in trouble? Lmao I'm sorry, I'm having SUCH a bad day at work that bad humor is the only thing keeping me from going off on people.

  • Karla

Mods I miss you all. I think Id better start a new argument here just for a change.

  • Chelsey

Britt did not like being a mod..haha!

Larry, I feel those people are gone. I have 3 at the top of my head. Not necessarily gone, I agree with Luce they are here, but no longer how they use to be...just lurking really.

which is why I said people should jump in! Forums arent scary, theyre informative, fun, and random these days! Which is what made me think about the mods being gone...whats wrong with them staying low key? like Darren said, low key, quiet, means there is no moderating to do lol.

  • Michael D Nalley

The last thread I started just drifted into cyberspace and according to the old mod rules if a topic fails it cannot be reposted. Just as well it was probably too political

  • Larry Chamberlin

    "Old Mod Rules"

Do you mean my rules (Old Mod)
or the rules of the previous mods?

I would not have the presumption to judge whether a thread "failed."

    - Stay calm and post on!

  • Hellon

I'd like Britt herself to answer please...would you come back as a temporary mod if asked?

Larry...I put a question up in the mod room and you were the one who answered but....you only answered half of my question...can you answer the other half please?

  • Darren

I would nominate Andrea (maple tree)
While we are banding names about.

  • Chelsey

I wouodnt want to put Andrea as a mod. . .she HATES anything related to drama, and she's too nice. Nice mods get bashed for not sticking to discipline. ..and then if she got bashed it'd just piss me off lol

Darren...I'd nominate you :) You got the mod attitude!

Larry youre doing a great job at keeping this light and fluffy hahah!

  • Britt

Honestly Hellon I wouldnt. I didnt feel wanted or much appreciated (I didnt need falling over myself praise.. but I got a LOT of crap from a lot of people). I worked hard because I like spending time here when I have nothing else to do, but got crap for that. Its a lose lose and I dont have the want or patience to deal with the BS because people dont like me lol

  • ddavidd

It is not true. I remember I had my share of hard times with you. and you always were spiritually and ideologically, and politically in opposite side. But I always found you easy going, not grudge oriented, pleasant and likable person with good sense of tolerance. So "people don't like me lol" is not true.
haha this goes for your poetry too, unless you write about cocaine, to drug members to nominate you ::))

  • Chelsey

She is a very unlikeable person. dont be nice to her....

    hahaha jk.

Are the people who gave you crap around still??? Thats what makes me rethink all this, because a lot of the "problem people" so to speak are gone or just don't care anymore.

But....I understand. You really dont need the added stress on top of your job. lol

Being a mod takes a lot of patience. Patience is an awesome quality and I'm jealous of those who have an abundance of it...

  • Larry Chamberlin

I don't mind the discussions & all but keep in mind that we have a full complement of mods & are not currently looking.

RE Sherry. She has the same supermod facilities as the Mod Account. Consequently, without Janis (the wandering owner) to remove these powers we have decided that it is too much of a risk to demote her until he returns. I believe we've already stated as much so this should not be news. She has not used her mod powers since Colm came on board.

I nominate Chels - if anybody can take the slings & arrows of outrageous fortune she is the Macbeth to do it.

  • Chelsey

    *spits out water*

    Chels...you want Chels??
The blonde who doesn't know basic math?

    You've lost your marbles.

  • Britt

Chelsey would end up accidentally suspending herself and the entire mod team because she got excited over all the new buttons..lmao.

Sherrys powers aren't going to get rid of the mod accounts powers. You still have access to them through Ann Marie's old account, which is why she let us have it that way. So I guess I don't understand the worry about losing Sher's powers, especially if she "isn't using them" (I don't mean to quote that like I don't believe you, but quoting what you said.. lol). Sher's acct and the mod acct aren't tied to one another.

RM thank you for your compliments, but I really didn't get along well with a lot of people while modding. I'm a bit more... strict... because I'm high on respect. I think PnQ members as a whole lack a lot of respect for one another and I have very low tolerance for it. That makes me look like a dictator to some people. I know I've changed quite a bit since my last mod term, but the respect issue is just something I hold very near and dear to me. It's too important to let go of for me.

Chels -- you'd be surprised and who complained to me about how awful I was. lol They weren't all the "token trouble makers". It goes back to being strict. I like things done a certain way and I like following rules (I know, I'm boring). So when I get criticized for following them, it's frustrating.

And then there is that whole patience thing lol.

I think it's healthy to discuss and wonder what people expect out of site mods (not just here, but on all sides). Whats a normal expectation and what is ridiculous to assume of people who volunteer their time? It doesn't mean expectations are set in stone, but more so a spin off to create ideas, and maybe delegate to members who don't need powers (to try to promote the boards a little, get it more active. It seems thats something a lot of people would like to see).

Then again, with lack of modding (sorry, but we're pretty much free to roam and spit on whomever we please), people don't want to come in here and have discussions... it's like a grade school play ground 'round here, bullies and all with no supervision.. only we're all adults now so we're a bit more clever in the manipulation lol.

  • Larry Chamberlin

We're not worried about losing the powers. It's more that we want to be sure they are properly removed.

  • Britt

So how do you know they aren't if she hasn't been demoted?

I guess to me its just like normal mod powers, once you lose the mod status, it all goes away.

(please note I'm just curious. stupid internet).

  • Michael D Nalley

Previous would have been a much better word.

I was referring to a specific mod that suspended more accounts than any in the history of P.Q

There seemed to be heated arguments in the old days . This site has slowed even though we are not constantly threatened by mods who have made up rules as they went along like a "craven grandstander" This is not aimed at any current mod but the scary ghost is remembered.
I have invested many hours in my page and understand why there needs to be trust between members and moderators

    http://theuglytruth.wordpress.com/2010/09/18/talking-to-the-wall-an-old-jewish-joke/

We have come a long way don't you think?

  • Chelsey

Maybe I do have thee uh... Macbeth attitude was it ??

Because I too am a rule follower and I would just put people in their place if they complained to me....

It comes down to this in every area of life...there are rules. You break them, you're punished and people lose respect for you...you follow them, you're respected....if anyone has problems with that, tough shit. Go somewhere where there are no rules....let me know how that goes.

I tell people that at jobs too. I have to follow policy. You dont like it? make a complaint. Buuutttttt it wont get changed because one or two people cry about it.

The whole problem is people are afraid to spank and be spanked if you get my drift. LOL

  • Darren

What is a mod attitude by the way?

I think everybody is speaking hypothetically Larry,

    As for me a Mod........

Depends which one of me you get, the sensible, reserved English gentleman or the drama queen.

  • Britt

Darren, if we give you some tea will you settle into the sensible, reserved English gentleman?

    How about some crumpets?

    What ARE crumpets?

  • Larry Chamberlin

Wait a minute, what about the introspective & thoughtful Buddhist Darren?

  • Britt

He's been playing candy crush and tossed all that out the window :P
