When I pm someone there is some sort of spell check coming up now that wasn't there before? eg..when I obviously spell something wrong it underlines it in red... just noticed it's even doing it now with this post...underlining eg because I never put dots in between....when did this happen? I've checked Janis'account and he hasn't been on so...what's happened???

Have you changed your internet browser or updated your browser settings recently?

The spell check function is dependent on browser not the site. It is available on my PC at home however at University I am not always able to use the spell check feature. Your computer may have downloaded and installed an add-on or plugin and that's why you are now able to see the red lines.

I've never consciously updated anything on my computer Mel but...I'll take you word for it that this is what happened...it updated itself?

It was just something that 'appeared' for the first time yesterday and I guess it stood out as something new to me :)

Will it correct any spelling errors when I next post a poem....I seem to remember that function was tied to the site (spell check) and it hasn't worked for yonks as far as I'm aware?

    * Edit...just checked it out and it does underline spelling errors when you are posting a new poem ...now I'm wondering (my big gripe a while back was not being able to correct the title of a post if you blundered)..will it also work there?...hope so...a lot of my typos have been when I've posted a new thread and then I'm left to cringe until the thread disappears onto the second page LOL!

It is definitely something with your browser. My laptop at home will underline misspelled words in red but my boyfriend's computer corrects misspelled words by itself. I guess it depends on like Mel said if there's something installed.

Even if you did not update anything the computer may be set to install automatic updates and that is why it has now appeared.

Yes, if you have a spelling error in the title of a post the red line will also appear and you will be able to correct it. Got to love the good ol' automatic updates, no more annoying typos for you Hellon!

Hellon, this happens for me too as of a few months ago, thinking back, it was when I installed firefox instead of I.E..although I still use I.E and not firefox..so who knows.

Makes it easier for me anyway with the spell check being broken :)

If you use firefox as your browser it has spell check built into it. If you use internet explorer it does not have spell check.

Microsoft's latest IE 10 has an inbuilt spellchecker and autocorrect feature, according to their website. If you use auto update settings in your windows 7 computer, perhaps it is the IE update.

Other IE versions do not have spell checkers, but one can install by downloading open source software ad on's such as SPECKIE or IESPEL. Having said that, I personally have been unable to make it work on my IE 8 when using Speckie in P&Q. I suspect I have to download Microsoft dynamic editor, a pop-up that is appearing right under the toolbar for the past 1 month when I first open P&Q. Alternately, for those who use Google toolbar with IE, you can use spell check button after typing, before posting.

Spell checker can be easily activated on Chrome under advanced settings, under language by checking a box.

Firefox, for generations has had a built in spellchecker, as Itallion Stallion stated above.
