Stores Open on Thanksgiving Day?

Thought I'd see what you guys think. I work in retail and my store is open at midnight for Black Friday, which our customers seem to be fine with... but lately I've been hearing people complain about other stores like JC Penney and Kohl's who open at 8 pm. There was a lot of anger and talk of not buying anything from them.

I'm not sure if it's the best business strategy because it could easily alienate customers.... family values are very important and can be sacred to people. Plus, many choose to travel out of town to visit.... personally my family doesn't have a big tradition since all our extended family lives out of state, so we just have dinner together at home which is special but not something altogether rare........... I'm also not sure if those four hours will be that big of a deal competition wise.

Do you agree with stores opening early for Black Friday, disagree, or are passive toward it? What would you do if you were forced to work on Thursday and didn't believe in it?

I really hate that they're opening up earlier and earlier. Black Friday on Thursday? What? Nevermind the whole idea of holiday and spending time with loved ones. It really bothers me. I don't do any shopping that whole weekend lol
