Happy New Year and New Year's Resolutions

As 2013 sails into the sunset, I'd like to wish PnQer's a safe, happy and productive new year. May 2014 prove memorable for the right reasons!

Secondly, new years resolutions. I'm not one for new years resolutions as such: but I tend to have a vague, back-of-the-mind target of where/what I want to go/do/be in the coming year. What has been your experience with new years resolutions? Lets post 2: One realistic one that you are making and one more fanciful, humourous one that will (most likely) never happen.

Real resolution: Get fitter again, go running more often, healthy mind in a healthy body etc etc.

Not so real resolution: Write a script for a major oscar-tipped film and secretly marry the female lead, Jennifer Lawrence, during filming. (Don't they say wishes come true?)

Finally, if you had one wish for PnQ in 2014, what would it be? Mine is simple enough, to have an administrator who is active (*cough Janis cough)

LOL Colm, I love your unrealistic resolution. It could happen!

I don't usually make resolutions, because I always fail at them. Usually it has to do with losing weight, exercising, eating better etc.

But my resolution this year is church related. I am pretty involved now, but I want to fine tune it...

In 2014, church wise, I will be doing a Bible study on Tuesdays, life group (in home bible study with people my age) on Thursdays. I'm also a backup volunteer on Thursdays to serve meals to the homeless or hungry in my town. I'm a volunteer for our backpack buddy program, which packs food for the weekend for hungry kids in our area. I also am on a meal train team, where if people in our church need a meal (after an injury, accident, illness, death or birth) we make and deliver dinner to them. I am going to Guatemala, working on fundraising events for that trip. I'm a part of the baby blanket ministry where we deliver blankets to hospitals for new moms who don't have a lot of family or support at the hospital. And then of course my full time job at the senior center is a ministry as well, so I'm serving there, too. I think I'm plenty involved, I don't feel lead to do more ministries, but I want to do more IN the ministry I'm a part of. So serve more meals, get more foods for the ministries I'm in, focus on reading more of the Bible. These are all very realistic things I can do, and can't set myself up for failure because I'm already doing all of it, just want to change HOW I do it all lol.

    Happy New Year, everybody!

Why not, Colm? Start writing that script; you never know how things go!

That is some amazing volunteer work, Britt.

I don't have any specific resolutions, just getting back on my diet track which I have destroyed during this vacation lol :P
and... I hope I get the scholarship I'm applying to
and... I hope my editor & I finish working on my 1st novel !! sooo excited
and... I hope all the blood stops in Syria :(

My resolution for this year is to be able to make a resolution for 2015

Haha my goofy new year resolution is: to be a true member of P&Q., to appreciate my time here as an artist and a poet and treat it not like a common chat room or Facebook member.
To be a valuable component to enhance poetry, to help myself and others to ease our ways to the better understanding of the real meaning and duty of art and poetry. Haha at least until the crucify-ers find the way to crucify me again

Colm you write the script, I'll write the music for it :)

I dont make resolutions. There is always potential for change even if youre damn determined about something.

I just posted on Facebook how this year and every year after is dedicated to my dad. He died at 50 yrs old and I still cant believe hes gone. It doesnt make sense to me how life can just end so quickly. But it happens...so from here forward, I am just so dream oriented. I manage myself in three areas. songwriting, modeling, and esthetics. Im busting my butt sending demos to music publishers, trying to move to a bigger state where opportunities are greater, I still want to work in a medical spa. My dreams are so huge I just want to chase them for myself (to make my life count) and for those who never got a chance to. I want to make my parents proud. I want to meet my dad and God in heaven and have them say, good job girl, you lived to the fullest.

Will I be trying to eat healthy and all that other stuff? of course. but Its not a resolution because even that fails. haha.

Unrealistic....marry a bull rider, with a farm, and be so rich that I can give money freely to those who need it.

    haahah probz.

good luck to all and happy new year

Good luck everybody with your resolutions and dreams,

I have picked the bass guitar up again after 12 years and I am determined to master it,
(played in a successful band years ago....long story)

One of the above band mates died last year 2013 in an accident in Thailand. He lived his life like he knew he was going to die at 34. He travelled, got drunk 2 or 3 times a week and usually ended up in daft scenarios like waking up in a random garden 50 miles from his home, he travelled to Thailand and worked with kids who had nothing,

I think he could say that he didn't waste a minute of his life.

Sometimes our paths cross with people like these, they can teach us so much.

So for me 2014 is a year of 'trying' also.

I am looking forward to the next 12 months.

^ Wow, very sorry to hear about your band mate but his spirit will live on..
Happy New Year everyone and good luck with all the resolutions! I love being able to read them on here and it's exciting to hear from everyone.

My plans are to focus on school, second semester of college, and to make the most of it. I didn't try my best last semester and this time, I want to get things done the night before so I'm not stressing. I don't want to waste anything and I'm happy I added another class on because 1st semester there weren't that many. Also will technically have a second job at my church as an organist, officially, so I am looking forward to practicing more and having that opportunity to volunteer and give back.

    Wishing everyone a
    graceful,
    vibrant and
    a promising 2014.

    Have an ecstatic New Year

May Gods eternal benefits, love, blessings, guard and mercies cloud you and your household always.

It's a year of good tidings from The Almighty, as He saw you through 2013, so shall He guide your footprints to inexplicable wonders.
Any forces of mortals and immortals targeted at you is annihilated by His upmost powers.
Your wisdom and vocation of interest will hoist you to greater heights by His will.
Any venture not attuned to your fate, He'll surely substitute with your fated needs.
Love and faith will be submerged in your home and may He bless you profusely as He's The Giver of all.

And may He divinely intervene and ease the sufferings of all around the world, as some are amidst ethnic and religious crisis or political, chaotic natural disasters and unending wars.
    Ameen/Amen

    One love to you all.

I wish just as much good wishes to you aswell, P&Q. While I may be a new, perhaps "pathetically" appearing member (or at least, that's what the back of my head's telling me that some might think of me, and what I sometimes consider of myself), I consider it essential to still express my good wishes. Have a good year, and good luck on everything you consider to do! May all the best desires fall across into your paths, and may you all gain what you seek.

As for my own new years' resolution, my only wish is, like a bird that first gets the chance to prove its ability to fly, to soar through the sky in a brilliant manner, so that I may land as closely to my target 'landing spot'. From there on out, I have the abilities to keep on fighting for what I believe is true.
