New Contest

Instead of sitting here feeling sad that no one seems to run contests anymore I decided to start one! First round is entirely open. Any topic, any length however the poem must include every letter of the alphabet.

1st prize 15 votes and comments (Plus you get to decide the topic for round two.)
2nd prize 10 votes and comments
3rd prize 5 votes and comments

Closing date is April 26th

Winners announced April 30th

Poetry Junkie

My eyes browse through
pages of poems,
as I discover unexplained
metaphors visiting lines
of otherwise perfect sense...

my mind begins to unravel
their possible hidden meanings.

I have grown addicted
to becoming lost inside
the zone of someone else's
galaxy;

a universe we equally share,
yet experience in different ways.

And I guess I ponder
over this lonely thought,
that what if poetry
could teach the rest of the world
to see something
through someone else's eyes...

jury destroys pawned laughter
quick fat axe carves deep.

JUST A THOUGHT

As I try to understand life
Believing that we all go through strife
Considering the different paths we walk
Do yourself a favor and stop all the talk
Emotions run high
Finding you need to stop the urge
Gaining your perspective so hope can emerge

Have faith in the unknown
Identify the overblown
Just ignore those so called cure-all's
Kindly remember his wake-up calls
Let's back track a minute
Memories are perfect tools
Notably allowing you to understand rules

Open the flood gates to your heart
Please pay attention and know that your smart
Quietly moving through this maze
Readily aware that life's in disarray
Strut on down that road less traveled
Take off those restraints that you've always battled

Undefined gifts are there to discover
Virtually in your sight you just need to uncover
Worrying about your past, present, future
Xerography will only cause conjecture
Yes this is my feeling I truly believe
Zoetic is always the way to proceed

After bible class devout evangelist fundamentalist go home in jeeps knowing lately mankind needs optimism quite religiously so they understand verses when Xavier yells zealously

Here's my entry :). This was surprisingly challenging haha, thank you for the challenge :)

Damaged

You ruined me.

My mind was once a rainforest-
Rich and lush and full of life

Now it is just a barren wasteland of despair

And I am gasping for water.

I knew you were toxic
But I never quite understood
That your poison could be used to taint my veins.

You shut down my horizons
And the millions of stars from my sky
Came crashing down to Earth.

But I am not worth nothing
And, though broken, I am not destroyed.

Waiting

I never quite understood clockwork, how mechanics
could frighten and alarm me, send my feet chasing
after sunrises and old tire tracks.

I'm beginning to understand that Time is a teacher
who mounts his steel throne each day of the week,
eyes open and hand outstretched to any dizzy student
wandering into the classroom at half past nine.

Time is constant, but sometimes I must wait
for my lesson. Sometimes I am naive, not knowing
that rushing my heart into the present will cause
a self-destructive notion to spark.

I must wait, because I can.
Because I am not a keeper of time, because
I only try to live from what I can do better.

She must've forgotten :)
