I'm not really familiar with titles of game music, but sonic and Mario do have som great ones :). My favorite is probably from Legend of zelda: ocarina of time. I feel like so many 90's games get overlooked when they are the best games out there.

Nice choices! And James, I agree with you about Zelda: ocarina of time. My brother actually introduced Zelda to me and we would play it at my grandma's when I was younger. Sometimes I catch him listening to the soundtrack or I'll look it up. I've also heard Lindsey Stirling's violin covers of some music from video games.

I truly believe any violin done well is the most beautiful instrument. I love piano though because you can do so much with it. Wish I could play but will learn someday. But I think if you look hard enough you can find great game music

The Shin Megami Tensei J-RPG series and its spin-offs have amazing soundtracks. Really, really atmospheric, or otherwise amazing overall.

Final fantasy is a great game series. I have fond memories of final fantasy II. The sound tracks are good. :). Donkey Kong is amazing as well!!!!

Metal Gear Solid had a good soundtrack, really fitted in well with the game. I really like the song from it called 'the best is yet to come' (helps that it is in Irish!)

Kingdom hearts ihas one of my favorite soundtracks as well. That game is just great overall.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this thread was that stage 2 background music from that retro game CastleVania on NES. It ain't fancy considering the time it was made but there sure are some catchy tunes there.

Yup, I really dig those classic NES games.

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the PS1 game "N2O" and it's soundtrack comprised entirely of Crystal Method songs. The graphics were more than a little impressive at the time too and the psychedelic patterns/colors of the race track tubes in hyper-speed was mind blowing awesome fun (especially when high).

Kingdom Hearts. "Simple and Clean" by Hikaru Utada (opening sequence version).

I loved that game. It had everything: Final Fantasy characters from VII, VIII (fav!), and X - including Squall (& his kick @$$ gunblade), Titus from X, and Sephiroth (no intro necessary), plus ALL THE DISNEY !!!!! Seriously, that game rocked my world.

....now I haz a sad. :'(
