People Stealing Poems!

I've come across a problem that is really upsetting me. This is the only poetry site that I have my work posted on. I noticed the other day that there are so many people stealing my poems!

I went into www.google.com and put lines from my poems in quotes (such as "So restless at night when I dream of you")....and BAM.....about 20 sites popped up with MY POEMS on them. My poems that other people claim to be writing!!

This is very upsetting. I was just wondering if this happens to other people too? Just go to www.google.com and put a line from your poem in quotes and search for it.....I bet you would be surprised with how many of your poems could be stolen too!!

I went exploring, on that particular line it looks like only one of the links is actually your poem, and who ever put up the site gave you credit for the poem. I think that kinda thing is just going to happen to great poets in this age of information. Keep em coming.

Thanks for the notes, guys. I think I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that their poems might be being copied by other people. It was a boredom thing one night, typing in lines of my poems on google.com....I didn't really expect to find what I did! There were a bunch more when I first looked it up, but I Emailed the sites and almost everyone took my poems off and were pretty nice about it.

I think what got me mad about it in the first place is that one of my fave poems that I've written, "Never Let Go," was taken off of this site b/c someone reported it as stolen!! All 3000-something votes were erased too. Ah well, tis life.

I searched one of my lines to my poem drifting and it came up by me so i dunno

I searched the first line of my poem "The Distance Between" and a few sites other than p&q came up and I checked them. One site didn't give a by line at all and I couldn't contact them at all. The other one actually put a by line on it and they said they wrote it, so I joined their site and posted a comment on their forum! Not that it'll do any good, but maybe some of the members will see the site for what it is...

Plagiarism is an epidemic and it doesn't apply just to poetry. Technology has now made it so easy to copy other peoples's work. A lot of people really think that they have the right to use anything they can copy or download from the internet.

Other people know better but they still do it anyway. UNLV has a a whole section of its web site devoted to warnings of disciplinary action for plagiarism and/or copyright offenses. Yet one UNLV professor who is a department head there has a web site that consists largely of plagiarized content. And her web site is hosted by the university's own network.

I wouldn't say upset... *chuckles to self* I actually wanted them crucified and drowned, for a moment, but I realised that if they knew of their own soulless lack of originality, that should be enough.

lol yeah, I Know whatchya mean tho.

I've never had poetry stolen before but I've had plenty of graphic's I make stolen b4 and it's soo frustrating. Mostly having to contact the sites owner and constantly nagging them to take it down.

wow Tara! 31,000+ votes! how do you keep track
of all them poems? Your just getting popular-
and with fame comes..paranoiah(spelling)-i did that
too on google.com-it comes up with a site listing-
referencing this site-a way that this webserver
sort of promotes itself, but putting you on the front
line-e.g. so you can tell your friends to check out
    www.google.com-umm..you know, taras poems-
and then your name comes up-it worked for me.
now wether someone is stealing my poems or not-
unless you can track down the website or person
directly, its a shot in the dark. still 31,000 votes!
you got to know your famous somewhere.

people, dont realize that maybe she is the one stealing the work? There a lot of OLDER people that write too and maybe she took lines from their work. the easy way to see if she is lying is to look at her work then type in a line form her work in a search engine. when her "work" pops up see the date of when the other person wrote it then look at hers. If their date is before hers then she stole it

that's really awful when people steal poems. i know every1 knows that already, lol, but even if u cheat on something like a test, u won't feel good about afterwards, because u know that's not your true mark, same really goes for taking poems.

I really don't care if people steal my poetry. I don't put a lot of stock in my poems anyway.

I've been plagiarized before though. It's kind of flattering, but I would like to atleast get paid or something. I'm a new writer in the biz. I don't expect to get taken seriously anytime soon.

    But, sorry, Tara, that sucks.

do you think its possible for two people to create a poem that is almost exactly alike?
