    7.) special occasion

She had radiant rolls that hid her frame,
A boundless sea of food and comfort,
and she liked how the fat felt
when she held it in her hands.
But they cut her stomach right out of her,
They cut it and diced it and threw it away,
Now her rolls are all gone,
and what meat's on her bones
can't be held, can't be cradled, or loved.

    8.) wild

Why do eyebrows grow on skin?
I want eyebrows that grow thick and dark
    straight from my eyes,
so when I blink, my hairy eyeballs
    shock and delight
    the world.

    1.) sensory

    Her glowing eyes
see all, know all, but mostly
they know that your lap is empty
    and not nearly fur-covered

    enough.

  • Narph

    2.) funny

    Snip, snap, the kitty slapped
    me right across the face.
Her claws were in, her teeth just grinned,
    she purred and spun
    and left me feeling utterly
    confused.

    3.) formed

    Catnip. Catnip. Caaatnip
    and
    tantalizing mice.

  • Narph

    4.) country/state/town

In New York, the cats stare
    out high rise windows
and imagine the tiny people below
    are simply obnoxious ants
    for the eating,
not far, really, from the truth.

  • Narph

    5.) syllables

The tail whipped swift across the floor
    the dog, a drooling mess,
    ached to know the flavor
    of the special fuzzy toy
    above the cat's scent factory.

  • Narph

    6.) religion

I would go to church, if, as the story went,
the cats gave Moses a scratching post
and he split the red sea to spare their fuzzy bellies
the cold reality of the place
where all that delicious cod came from.

    7.) special occasion

My bedroom smelled a little stale,
and so I knelt and crawled around,
    seeking out the source.
And there, a small heap beneath my bed,
    a silky pile, mewling, wet,
a sweet soft mass of kittens
    ripe for the keeping.

  • Narph

    8.) wild

    Sauntering down the hallway
is a queen whose frantic hairdays
    result in frantic hairballs
coughed elegantly out onto the carpet
like the most delicious of pate.

  • Narph

    1.) sensory

    I like watching fans
    and imagining that the constant
air is slowly drying the wet
    coating on my eyes.

  • Narph

    2.) funny

    My brother said the ocean
    was nothing but a puddle.
    Well, I laughed.

  • Narph

    3.) formed

    Fickle, feeble minded fool
    You've got me maddened, fully
    Exasperated with your ramblings.

  • Narph

    4.) place

I see Canada drenched in brown,
    a thick sweet maple
    haze of mystery,
    a swizzle stick
    twizzles by Quebec.

  • Narph

    5.) syllables

    Hop scotch, butter scotch
    bumble, bramble, honey whiskey,
    Honeybun and sticky bun and
    sticks stuck to your feet.
    These words feel good.

  • Narph

    6.) religion

    I don't know why,
    But the red dot pressed
    To my forehead
    made me feel adorned,
    not lovely
but as if I was held in the palm
    of something richer
    and greater.

  • Narph

    7.) special

In the rickety stacks I found my heart,
    a brown leather string
that once held back a barbie's hair,
    not special for it's purpose,
    but miraculous
because I didn't remember it before.

  • Narph

    8.) wild

    The sweet cold plop,
    The whizzing flurry
    As the bubbles race
    To eat the cream,
    the straw, racing
    From cup to tongue,
    the fleeting pleasure
    Of a rootbeer float.

  • Narph

    1.) sensory

The raging sting of sunburnt skin
feels to me like a warming sun
    bronzing my epidermis from within.

  • Narph

    2.) funny?

There once was a poet who wrote really fast
he tittered and twittered and posted and ate,
and in all of that time, it never passed
that they managed to snag so much as a date.

  • Narph

    3.) formed

Do not cross, the warning says.
    Abutting this structure is a
    Non-functional
    Gurgling
    Elephant on the
    Rampage.

  • Narph

    4.) place

The scub pines come short and stiff on Cape,
the trees sipping what little water they can
    from the acidic beach sand
    where tourists tossed their beer.

  • Narph

    5.) syllables

I like words that nestle in blankets,
or that sit on tongues unspoken because
they taste too sweet to spill into the air.
    Mellifluous.

  • Narph

    6.) religion

The hearty thrall and husky drawl of gospel draws me in
For who can help but taste sweet joy
When a choir starts to sing?

  • Narph

    7.) special

The sharp red pull is enough to leave me a jumbled mess
wishing that the tooth fairy paid
    in morphine,

    not nickels.

  • Narph

    8.) wild

He picks a stone to skip
    across the water's silver sheen,
But as he moves to shoot it out
he catches just a hint of gleam,
    and pockets it instead.

    1) Sense

My club smells of salt, polished wood, turned pages,
    and seagull excrement.
You can sometimes see us, standing on our worn-in vessel,
    shoulders side to side,
determined eyes cast toward a blinding sun.
You can hear our cackles, cries, and songs of silence
carried to the shores on thick, homeward winds.
You can taste the sweat from tiresome backs
as we push our oars through
    wordy waters.

We've sailed for years, surely, and always sure.
We can feel the thread that binds us, and
we honor the grit of friends.

    2) Funny

There was a lass named Moria
    As earthy as Queen Victoria
    Though new to our club
    She hopped into our tub
    So we renamed you Fantasmagoria

    Apples on my tree
Are red but full of small holes
    They're food for moths

    4) Country/State/Town

    In the weekend I died
My team, my precious team lost
The Christchurch Crusaders whom I bow down before
    Lost by one point
One point that's all it was
But that point ripped my heart out
And left it lying on the floor before my TV
    Withered and torn
    So full of scorn
God another 12 months to get it back

    5) 30 - 35 Syllables

The pirate ship ghosted into the harbour
    Forty cannon at the ready
Crew with cutlass and musket at hand
    Go ma hearty dogs

    6) Religion

    She popped a tab
Strode to the glass stained window
The crowd surged to get a glimpse
    But she was well hidden
    Her habit saw to that
    She wasn't ready for this
First waiting for the headache to abate
    Drawing a deep breath
She unlatched to door to confront the masses
    They fell to their knees
As the blood flowed from her open palms

  • Nicko

    7) Special occasion

Without pickled pork it's never the same
And no one can cook it like dad
    Then there's crystallised ginger
Set out with the peanuts and minced pies
The lilies flood the room with a deep aroma
These smells mix and fill my senses
    Its Christmas once more

    On the beach it lay
    Seaweed cracking in the sun
    Washed clean by morning

    1) Sensory

We moored our boat in our secret cove
As we looked in glee at our plunder
    Cutlass's still in hand
    The prize was ours
    The poetry challenge cup
The other clubs they did chunder
Al shinny all new, a polished wonder

Behind Atlantis bubbled to the surface
    Encased in gold and glitter
    We stepped a shore
    Lets get down and dirty

    3. Life

Two scars are all that's left.
    Two bright, brave rows
    carved across the chest
    that heaves now without
    the bosom, but beats on
    without the poison.

  • abracadabra

    4. Club name

    In Eden, nakedness was as
    ordinary as trees and moonlight,
but in a world of nothing but
nature and purity, it was only
after the fruit was eaten that
    Adam found Eve's fig-covered
    apples arousing.
