    1).

You scratched your ear like you were
trying to recall an aged memory
vigorously attempting to hear its tone
    once more,
    yet you informed me
    it was just the mosquitoes...
    just the mosquitoes
    on a pale winter day
    when no other emotion
    could bite.

    2).

There once lived a man who was drowsy,
and though his clothes were quite lousy,
he dressed in a smile and stood in the aisle,
impatiently waiting for his new bride.

Gaudy props and formal words he was dreading,
but he perked up at the sight of cakes and breading,
until he woke the next day, in a fit of disarray,
realizing he had attended the wrong wedding!

    3). Palindrome

    Regret is potency,
    tides of tears
    cascading...
    Am I marooned?
    Oars cracked and
    heart swelling?

    ~reflect~

    Swelling heart
    and cracked oars,
    marooned? I am...
    cascading
    tears of tides,
    potency is regret

    4).

I knew nothing of Assisi but the blinking stars,
the same ones that my America dreamed upon.
On that hotel rooftop, I twirled, empty-handed,
faintly singing "My heart will go on",
thinking I had been touched by the core of love...

    (I knew nothing of love).

    5). 32 syllables

    Mentally, we are starved,
    starved of determination
    to re-invite positive
    thoughts,
    when all we sleep with
    is negativity.

    6).

She is not possessed, so don't mourn for her soul.
Don't snicker or jeer when she is gripping hands
together so fiercely that her cheeks turn red and
her arms are sore. Don't lament the way her hair
can't shine underneath lace veils or that young eyes
penetrate the altar instead of other men.
    She is simply holding on....
and she is scared, scared that this relationship
will fade, for although she was born and raised
into religion, she chose it for herself,
knowing there is no purpose in life unless
it is pursuing God in how to be a humble servant.

    7).

    When I first inhaled you,
you entered my heart without knocking
or forewarning me of how much I
    would rejoice.

    You are warm summers
    spent faithfully in the kitchen,
    sweating and fanning each other
    while combining spices and
    baking what we never had
    recipes for.

    You are a "Banana Nutmeg
    Bread Pudding" candle, and I
    can't seem to let you
    go.

    8).

    Stop
    second guessing,
    you are crafting illusions
    no magician
    can work through.
    You are not
    unloved,
    and the earth cares
    for what happens to you,
    though it may stay
    hushed
    during dawn and dusk.

    1).

The rabbit tangos with morning butterflies,
imitating the samba while 57 suns
    seem to flare up
    and create a triumphant canvas.
I can barely walk past the window pane
    without yearning to skip outside
and greet a world I hadn't been giving
    enough credit to.

    2).

How many letters must we rearrange,
how many soups must we swallow,
how many tails can we chase,
before we realize possibilities are infinite?
And we are an endless alphabet-
    perpetually composing new words,
    new definitions, new lives...

  • Poet on the Piano

    3).

    Sharps and flats,
    that's how your words
    perform...
    I wonder if you ever
    rehearse tones,
    or if the stage merely
    swallows any forethought.
    I'm trying to stop digging
    my grave after you leave,
but I haven't put the shovel
    down yet.
In this life, we have to pick
our battles, and there is no point
to blaming what cannot be changed.
    This distress, this chaos,
this pressure like needles on my head
is part of my imagination, right?
You didn't mean to leave a hole
in my heart with your apathy...
because I know you care in other ways

    (you must).

    4).

It seeps from her bergamot tea,
    soaking lips with fellowship,
    pure as the reflection she
    became too afraid to
    contemplate.
    Grey eyes bloom
    when
    moonlight muses.

    5). Musette

    rooftops-
    midnight ballads,
    raindrops.

    carols
    when love echoes-
    barrels.

    church chimes
    at 2 o'clock-
    faith climbs.

  • Poet on the Piano

    6).

    Rum, clinking shot glasses,
    sweat on her upper lip
as she glances at the stairwell,
    [no, they're not home yet]

    Rum, run, run, rum...
    burning her throat with
    colors that don't define her,
    with an escape she never
    would forage.
