Tribute to Robin Williams.

So because we aren't engaging in the political/holy PnQ war, we don't support or have grief over what is happening in the middle east?

    I don't think so.

I know you don't Britt, it is given. You votes are always counted before even the competition begin.

Abed, rabea, whoever more you are: What you saying is if people are dying in bunch then the life of individuals does not matter and has no value. Do I need to explain how wrong this is??

  • Abed

Colm, no need for explanation. We all know what's depression. The beautiful poetry on this site is generally a result of depression. There's not a single artist on this planet who's not depressed, or at least who hasn't underwent mild to severe depression. I am myself always depressed, you may be, too, the difference is that some people know how to deal with it, whereas others choose the easiest way.

Anyway, I really think I should watch Dead Poets' Society.

    -

And no, David, not at all.
I was trying to prove something, and some people on this thread proved it to me.

Rabea, being able to laugh at yourself is a skill not everyone could lactate.

Did anyone else catch Jimmy Fallon's tribute to Robin Williams? He was struggling not to tear up.

Not sure I've ever been so impacted by a celeb's death, and it's certainly taken me by surprise.

Britt - Beautiful post about mental illness and suicide.

Just so tacky!!!! Hope you now feel relieved that you've achieved 'something'.

  • Abed

Yes in fact, very relieved that I've assured myself that people have this hypocrisy / duality in character

  • Hellon

I hope you have included yourself in this ridiculous category that you have because...you'd be my number one choice if I have such a category myself. As for watching DPS well...you could always try but, I doubt you'd get it.

  • Abed

Shocker Hellon, you're #1 on mine too haha

mind if I ask you why I won't get it?

    ^^^

A link to the synopsis. It's just not YOU!!!

    EDIT

Now let me ask you something...you have called people on this thread hypocrites because they are upset at Robin Williams' passing...(a person you obviously know very little about as you stated). You have tried to 'prove a point' you say but...what exactly is your point? There have been numerous threads relating to Gaza made recently and...I don't recall one that has said anything other than the shock and sadness that all members on here feel for the people of Palestine so...I don't get what you came on here to prove?

  • Abed

Don't you realize you're still assuring me that you're an hypocrite?
You were annoyed that I judged that depressed guy's silliest life decision, and now you're judging me .
    way to go (Y)

  • Hellon

Well...you had ALREADY judged me of being one for whatever reason...now that I'm 'apparently' judging you I'M the hypocrite? Double Standards....

    Yeah...Way to go most DEFINATELY!!!

  • Abed

I think you really have a memory of a fish.
Let's go back above to where you said:

"LOL???? That tells me so much about you....No respect for anyone or their situation...."

So I don't think I was the one who started judging.
*throws your double standards right back at you*

    -
    Oh, and it's 'definitely' .

  • Hellon

I will stand by that statement in response to your LOL...it was inappropriate I felt for the nature of the subject. Did I judge you on it? Yes, I think I did. Will I apologise.....no time in this life time.

You carry on with your hatred for the western world Abed...someday that chip you have on your shoulder may just become too heavy and...if you carry on as you are right now...there will be no one there to help you.

I've already said in so many ways that I feel helpless for the people of Palestine...there is nothing I can do to help....arguing with you is helping no one so....yes you carry on with your hatred...You came here, you said to make your point so...now that you have..."we are ALL hypocrites...Me being #1" in your opinion...perhaps you will let this thread continue to commemorate a great man.

I'm sorry to the OP for the way this thread has turned....

  • Abed

I don't hate the western world. This is another judgement you're making. If I say there are many political things going wrong out there, that doesn't mean I hate it. Because if I did, I wouldn't even be on this site, writing in a language that's not mine. I wouldn't listen to its songs, watch its movies, or even dream of completing my higher studies there.

And yes, better to let this thread continue..

So I knew I absolutely loved a Robin Williams movie, but I couldn't remember the title. I only remember seeing it years ago and something about painting surroundings. I googled it, and it was What Dreams May Come.

Reading the storyline now, it breaks my heart.

I found this article which talks about suicide and depression and mentions Robin Williams

It is written by Katie Hurley

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/katie-hurley/theres-nothing-selfish-about-suicide_b_5672519.html?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000063

    here is a snippet

"Suicide is a decision made out of desperation, hopelessness, isolation and loneliness. The black hole that is clinical depression is all-consuming. Feeling like a burden to loved ones, feeling like there is no way out, feeling trapped and feeling isolated are all common among people who suffer from depression. "

"People who say that suicide is selfish always reference the survivors. It's selfish to leave children, spouses and other family members behind, so they say. They're not thinking about the survivors, or so they would have us believe. What they don't know is that those very loved ones are the reason many people hang on for just one more day. "

    Love, love, love that article.

New reports show Robin Williams was in early stages of Parkinsons. So sad.

  • Hannah Lizette

Lol Darren, I posted that article yesterday above but I guess it got overlooked.

It was a really inspiring article and completely true, especially about how the loved ones they leave behind are the main reason so many hang on for so long.

  • Darren

    Oh yeah!!!

whoops apologies for stealing your thunder.

of all the articles written on this subject in the world we pick the same one.

It is well written and very true. You cant argue that she doesn't know what she is talking about.

  • Hannah Lizette

Oh no, not worried about thunder at all! lol

We picked the same one because it touched us and thought it should be shared, no harm in that... the more it gets shared, the better!

"Rabea, being able to laugh at yourself is a skill not everyone could lactate."
Well said, Ddavidd, wish everyone had that insight.

Likewise, the inability to take what others say with a grain of salt leads to much misery and wasted breath.

Re: Robin. There is absolutely no way this man could have made us laugh and cry as he did without the depths of despair and spires of mania that he endured. It was his absolute ownership of reality from both extremes that made him both real and supernally "unreal" to us. I put him in rare company along with Van Gogh.

I think that RW was such a method actor that he adopted many of his characters

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097165/quotes

Method acting is about as easy as peeing yourself. An acting teacher once told Williams that method acting is like urinating in brown corduroy pants: "You feel fabulous. We see nothing."

  • ddavidd

Thank you dear Larry. Laughter is good.

Van Gogh cut his ear and RW killed himself. I can see the similarity. Art is a though business.

" I put him in rare company along with Van Gogh."

I see not a single evidence that would entwine R W with Van Gogh.
Van Gogh was a selfish failure living off his brother goodwill throughout his life.. On top of that he had a twisted obsession towards a woman that drove him into self mutilation... On the other hand R W has become an "instant hit" to millions of peeps in his early carrier and never faded as one of the best entertainer of our life...

"I just can't fathom that the whole world is in tears for a person who took the silliest, weakest decision in life, and that is committing suicide "

Pointing fingers at him to judge his decisions is makes make you somewhat a simpleton for failing to see that at the end of the day he was just like you and me, a person with problems...
