    Love this Darren!

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s:
I am musically challenged and can only shake my booty!

    2) what book are you reading now?
Currently only reading my daily devotionals, haven't had time to sit down with other books in a while. :(

    3) what book did you read before?
A personal development book on leadership... I can't think of the name right now.

    4) what is the last film you watched?
Lucy. Not worth the $8 ticket.. lol.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?
Oh man, a ton. But my favorites are probably the Ocean's movies, or Batman set.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?
I'm a sports nut - college football would be the Oregon Ducks, professional football Tampa Bay Bucc's (hush) or the Denver Bronco's. I love Seattle Seahawks because of their team and how God centered many of them are. Basketball the Portland Trailblazers.

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?
This is a hard one for me, because ultimately it comes down to people. I want to change the sin in this world, the addiction, the mental illness, the broken-ness, but that is a part of being in this world.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?
    Jesus.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?
Ireland. Colm, I'll be there someday!! lol

    10) What would be your ideal job?
I do social services/work right now and it's emotional frustrating and exhausting but also very rewarding. I do want to have a go at being a stay at home mom, though :)

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s
    Piano

    2) what book are you reading now?
The Beauty of Murder, by A.K. Benedict, only at the second chapter.

    3) what book did you read before?
Strictly Bipolar, by Darian Leader. It's more like a paperback essay, though, and I'm only at page 50 and haven't touched it for two weeks. One could guess how loyal I am when it comes to reading. :P

Dead Poet's Society, today, because I was reading through the discussion forum and I've heard of the movie before.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?
Being Erica, it got me quite teary-eyed, it's about fixing mistakes of the past by time-travelling, obviously focussing on its consequences as well. Other than that, I used to watch Friends on tv, when I was younger, but didn't went through it all. And I watch a lot of Chinese and Japanese series, lol.

    Not really interested in sports

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?
Get rid of greed, and selfishness.

I don't think I have any. I usually admire bits of people, not the whole.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?
Tough one, I'd always wanted to go to many places. I think I'd go for Malaysia again.

    10) What would be your ideal job?
Spoken word artist. I think I'd have some fun at shooting videos, recording my voice, doing the cinematic magic, and being on stage feeling like I'm having a voice in this world. I'd be the thick-headed person who wants to do a looooot of things herself, like how I always dream of publishing poems and doing the illustrations myself even though I don't draw that well.
But I think the goal of innovating for the mentally ill is more realistic.

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

    Guitar. Poorly.

    2) what book are you reading now?

The last 3 non-school related books I started reading, I reached the middle and never returned. I can't even remember the names of them. One was a Jane Austen, one a Kurt Vonnegut, and I decided to reread the Song of Ice & Fire series, but stopped somewhere midway through Storm of Swords.
    Suggestions are welcome!

    4) what is the last film you watched?

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

I've been getting really upset about the sexual objectification of women lately. The content of most popular music, music videos, how many times you can expect to see a woman's bare breasts bouncing in any movie or tv show... ugh. Can we please give it a rest? I'm so tired of hearing about ass and titties and SEEING them in obscene proportions all over the place.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

Oh boy. My dad, but mom's a close second.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

Lol, I love the way you phrase this, and totally agree. Jason and I felt old the other day because the new Carl's Jr. commercial was on (at dinner timeish!) and we were appalled -- kids can see that! It's disgusting.. and has nothing to do with the burger at all. Cmon.

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

I play the guitar. I have three of them! A classical, an acoustic, and a beautiful 12 string that my grandmother surprised me with on my birthday. It's my favorite thing to do-- I'm not good at it, per se, but it calms me down and makes me find myself in a way that nothing else does.

    2) what book are you reading now?

Together Tea by Marjan Kamali. I'm normally picky about books, but this one I love. It's funny and vibrant... Definitely recommend, Jane :)

    3) what book did you read before?

I read the Divergent trilogy in the last two days. Do not, do not, do not recommend. Never regretted reading something so much in my life.

    4) what is the last film you watched?

Not sure when the last time I watched a film from start to finish was? I saw bits and pieces of Hotel Rwanda the other night. Before that? It must've been Divergent.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

My worst habit is an obsessive one. I don't like watching or reading anything until every last episode is out, and when it is... I lose sleep, forget friends, avoid eating, skip class and glue my eyes to the screen until I've seen every last episode.
So, with that said. Here's the list that I've come up with:
The West Wing, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Inuyasha, Star Wars, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek TOS, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, Terra Nova, Charmed, Dawson's Creek, Archer, Rick and Morty... at least, those are the ones that I've holed up to watch for days.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

    Boston Bruins allll the waaaayyyyy!!!!

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

I'm sick of feeling like there is a specific path that people are supposed to take to achieve happiness. I think I'd change the narrative of what "success" means, and how it rules our lives. Also, I'd like to see more people with pet ducks.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

My grandmother, she's the strongest and most confidently alive person I know.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

Well, I was supposed to be going to Russia in a few weeks, but that just fell through. I'd still like to go, but otherwise? Maybe Thailand? Australia? New Zealand, Brazil, or Chile? Those are at the top of my list right now.

    10) What would be your ideal job?

If I knew what my ideal job was, I wouldn't be so freaked out about life, haha! Anything, anything, where the people are fun, and there's gossip, and skills, and the opportunity to make someone's day better. If only I knew where to go to find that. :)

  • Larry Chamberlin

    Narph:
    10. Guitar playing social director on a Malaysian Cruise line. Takes care of # 9 as well, plus you'd see a lot of people like your grandmother and you can give away pet ducks as part of your unique approach to the position.

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

    Nope one of my regrets

Just re reading the Hobbit again. i loved it as kid. But a bit disappointed this time round, more of a kids book than I remember and less in depth than lord of the rings

    3) what book did you read before?

Patrick Swayze The time of my life, that guy was one hell of a strong character. Initially I thought it partly arrogance but the more i read the more I realized how driven and what a capable and strong individual he was. Also aspects of his life that you don't really see in the films or how he was portrayed in Hollywood. One that he was a brilliant Ballet dancer. His lifelong love and devotion to his wife was also very touching and sadly lacking in today's society

    4) what is the last film you watched?

James Stewart "what a wonderful life" 1946 watched this with my daughter the other day. it had been re done in colour and it was WONDERFUL .. well worth watching if you get the chance
    before that
" Transformers age of extinction" watched this while traveling for work... mistake mistake what a complete load of crap.....

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

Steptoe and son an English comedy series brilliant
Get Smart good but not as good as Steptoe

    6) do you have a favorite sports team, if so who?

The Canterbury Crusaders from Christchurch... what a team what a game... Its played in heaven you know

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

I would get rid of every religion yep every last one and replace them with Buddhism, which is not really a religion at all... Ore we could all be atheists like me... then there would be peace

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

somebody that has lived through adversity and come out the other side not wearing hate on his shoulder. somebody like Nelson Mandela

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

    Thailand

    10) What would be your ideal job?

I can't remember to be honest...I love animation so it would probably have been something along these lines.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

TV is not really something I'm into, we weren't 'rich' enough to own one when I was growing up and I guess that's rubbed off even today.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

Fremantle Dockers of course...(Ozzie Rules) and...I do love the All Blacks when they do the Haka...very intimidating to watch :)

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

I like to experience everything both good and bad...that's what makes us who we are so...I really wouldn't change anything...it would be tampering with history I think.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

I don't have an idol per sae but...I did admire Nelson Mandela and all that he stood for. Baz Luhrmann is someone else who comes to mind.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

I've been fortunate enough to see quite a bit of the world for which I'm most thankful for. One place I've always wanted to go to is Japan and...I'm going there next month...I just save and go....like I said...I've been very blessed in that respect.

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

    3) what book did you read before?

The Lunchbox at the Deckchair Cinemas up in Darwin with my sis. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

Though I rarely watch commercial TV, I find I am a lot like Narph in my series watching. I recently finished watching all of Breaking Bad, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, Walking Dead. Depression cures always at hand are Blackadder, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, QI, Little Bit of Fry and Laurie, Flight of the Concordes, Peep Show... you get the idea.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

Don't give a flying puck about sports. Wish the government would spend even half of its funding on arts and science instead.

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

    Me.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

Don't idolise anyone. I'm grateful for science and mystery and diversity and change and poetry in everything. I adore my father unequivocally. He is the most inspiring and genuine person I know.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

Next is Argentina, Peru, Columbia and Brazil. Roadtripping the USA. Alaska. Mexico. Cuba. Burma. Egypt, properly. UK. Eastern Europe before it changes. India again and again and again.

    10) What would be your ideal job?

    Travel writer/ food writer/ science writer/ writer.
    Gypsy.
But being a science communicator for the state's musem is a pretty awesome job anyway. Would help if the pay was nearer the average Australian income, but can't complain.

Thanks guys, again some varied answers.

Nicko I can understand your eradicate religion part, it does seem to cause more trouble than it is worth. However some people need hope or a belief that something is guiding us. Buddhism is a great shout though.

It seems as potential poets we like to dabble with instruments (or shake our booty)

We pick some books and find them a struggle or a bad choice, We can be obsessive with TV programs or film box sets.

We all love to travel or want to travel.

These are all fuel for poetry and I think we all have something in common with the fact that we like to take time to recognise the beauty and small details around us.

Hellon, not being in TV as much fits perfectly into the Australian culture, too much to do out doors or people to socialise with.

How many of us would love to be able to answer the final question as Larry did.

    (I would also take Nickos)

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

    - I have a guitar but can't play it well, only the basic chords. I'm not very musical

    2) what book are you reading now?

    - I don't really read anymore. Currently, I'm reading a mixture of what's on my bedside locker, depending what takes my fancy: The Book Thief, Cloud Atlas, and I have Saki's short stories and Dubliners by James Joyce on my bedside locker too if I just want a few pages of reading. I've Harry Potter there too as my lifeline if all else fails.

    3) what book did you read before?

    - Last book I've read from cover to cover (kindle version) was The Alchemist. I've heard it was one of the best selling books of all time and for the life of me I can't figure out why.

    4) what is the last film you watched?

    - I re-watched Good Will Hunting the other day, great film that I hadn't seen in ages. I saw the Inbetweeners 2 in cinema recently too.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

    - I don't watch tv much as such but do like series/boxsets. I'm currently watching Scrubs (thank you netflix), and have recently watched Breaking Bad (twice), Homeland, The Inbetweeners (seen each episode a few times), Father Ted, had a lord of the rings marathon a while ago, and I've watched The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother over the last two-three years or so.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

    - I do like my sport. The local hurling (and to a lesser extent Gaelic Football) team are the main ones I follow. Then the Leinster and Irish rugby teams, and I don't like soccer as much but I'd 'support' Barcelona if anybody. I'll be shouting for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup starting soon! Have an Australian affinity for Port Adelaide but don't get what the big deal is with American sports.

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

    - I saw a film once where it was impossible to lie. It wasn't very good but in a dream world, maybe it'd be nice if it was impossible to commit serious crime against somebody else such as murder/killing, rape, serious assault, robbery, etc.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

    - I don't think I idolise anybody as such but a few people are inspiring. Muhammad Ali is possibly my great sporting hero, I always liked and admired Roger Federer also and Brian O' Driscoll, mainly because of the hard work they put into their craft. J.K Rowling is another, I admire her because she must have had it tough up to the time the Harry Potter book was published. There are a few figures from Irish history too that are quite inspirational, the likes of Michael Collins. And probably more than any of those are a few of my family and friends who are fantastic.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

    - I've been lucky that I've been a few places on my list but there are so many to go. Top of my list would be places like New Zealand, roadtrip across Canada/America, Pacific Islands, South America, China.

    10) What would be your ideal job?

    - I happy with my profession, but I suppose a dream job is a writer. Watch this space... lol

Ah, wasn't sure if you meant tv series or movie series.

TV series, that opens a can of worms. Watching Downton Abbey and Orange is the New Black the last few weeks. Before that - Orphan Black, Hell on Wheels, finished up Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Parks & Rec, re-watched Arrested Development, Dual Survival, watched Lost for the first time ever, as well as Battlestar Galactica. That might be it in the 6 months, but it's hard to remember. I REFUSE to watch beyond the first season of Game of Thrones. As a book purist and fan of Ice & Fire for 10+ years, I absolutely despise the tv show... its interpretation of characters, over-sexualization and changes in plot... UGH! George R.R. Martin is a sellout. And hype over the show is no doubt going to ruin the rest of the books that I've been waiting on patiently for years. So thanks everyone! And no I do not want to talk about it, unless you also happened to read the entire series before the show began, then maybe we can vent together.

    Jane out.

EDIT: Sorry for freaking out in your thread, Darren :) Game of Thrones makes me blood boil. It's a daily thing.

    Itiham is good.

Never ever watch Law. so shallow and boring.

I recommend "2alam 7omra" (also with Abed) ... Amazing! I just finished the last episode, so philosophical yet so real and moving .

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s
    - Piano, organ more recently, and I bought an acoustic guitar in high school but never took lessons. It's still stowed away somewhere in my closet and haven't learned a full song yet, want to though.

    2) what book are you reading now?
    - Haven't picked up and started the new one in my series, but I've been reading through "Courage in Chaos" by St. Francis de Sales, who is actually the patron saint of writers. My friend gave me this for graduation and it's very encouraging, holds a lot of wisdom in my opinion.

    3) what book did you read before?
    - Just finished UnWholly (book 2 in the Unwind Dystopian series by Neal Shusterman). Tells the stories of multiple characters but he develops them so well. Basically, this society pushes for "unwinding" which is where you can still be "alive" but have different parts of your body donated to others. This then questions the quality of life, etc.

    4) what is the last film you watched?
    - God's Not Dead last night with a friend, loved it!

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?
    - I've watched a lot of series on-line as we don't have cable at home. Among my favorites: Monk, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Office, Hell's Kitchen, Masterchef, Kitchen Nightmares.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?
    - Not much into sports or follow them but I guess The Colts.

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?
    - I think for more people to have compassion and try to be understanding... so that we look at others as humans and not just those who hold different beliefs than us.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?
    - There are inspirational people or those I respect and look up to. Jesus is my biggest role model then quite a few saints, though I know there are tons I haven't heard of. Probably St. Peter, St. Paul, John Paul II, St. Cecelia. And of course my mom, for she's very pure of heart and only wants the best for everyone. I also have a friend I admire for his humility and faith.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?
    - Oh, that's tough! I completely agree with Darren's point that we are all united by our desire to travel. I would probably want to spend more time in Italy, as I went a few years ago but it was only for two weeks. Going back to Rome and then Assisi, which was my favorite. Would want to visit Spain, the Netherlands, India (I know a few people from here and the stories they tell are amazing, especially in the culture and the work they do within the community). In the US, I would probably want to travel more Midwest and into the mountains, or visit the ocean, etc.

    10) What would be your ideal job?
    - I don't know yet, especially since I've only had one job for about a year now. I want to do something bigger than retail and writing. I think I'll always write on the side or be a freelance writer, even if it's not my main profession, but something with communications maybe? I want to work with people, even in simple ways, like I've seen in retail how helping a person with something that you don't even need can just make their day brighter... I don't know what's out there yet or where I'm supposed to be. Maybe something with reaching out to the youth or counseling as well? Something with ministry work.

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

Electric guitar, and a little bit of this and that.

    2) what book are you reading now?

Re-reading the whole Knightfall saga, well, switching between that and Freud's Dream Psychology.

    3) what book did you read before?

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.... Awesome book, hehe.

    4) what is the last film you watched?

Key Largo. Got to watch that again after seeing the news about Ms. Bacall.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

Movies; Star Wars, The Godfather, James Bond, Hannibal, just mentioning a few favorites there.
TV Series; lots, like Wonder Woman(the Lynda Carter thing), The Mentalist, Bones, Hannibal, and then some. I think Rurouni Kenshin was the last one.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

Tennis, Novak Djokovic, Federer coming in close second. As for the ladies, a toss between these girls; Hantuchova and Radwanska.

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

Money. Replace it with some other way, a far better way in which no person will be poor or go hungry.
... Either that or, prevent my cat from getting pregnant all the time. I love cats but what she's doing is drivin' me nuts.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

Depends on what we're talking about here. I don't think God or the one in charge of all things has ever crammed all the traits I admire into one person, at least, I haven't met one.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

As of this moment, hmmmm, Brazil. Because some blue-eyed guy said, "They've got an awful lot of coffee in Brazil...." hehe.

    10) What would be your ideal job?

I'd love to try some new stuff like being a cook, or an astronaut, or a cooking astronaut, hehe. But I dig my job now, it ain't much, I play guitar in a band at clubs and such. There I get to meet different types of people(drunks, depressed, happy-go-luckies, kind folks, a$$holes, you name it), I get to be booed at, applauded, shocked by a malfunctioning guitar amp, get applauded again. I love my job. :)

P and Q online band anyone?

    1) Do you play an instrument, if so what instrument/s

I am the music man...I come from down your way...

I play drums, guitar and bass, with a smattering of piano, Uke and accordion. I sing a bit too, really though my talent in music lies in being able to listen and respond to other musicians.

    2) what book are you reading now?

Night School by Richard Wiseman. A very interesting book filled with the latest research on everything to do with sleep, dreams and memory.

    3) what book did you read before?

Matter by Iain M Banks. A fascinating and brilliant book about what happens when a super advanced culture tries to interfear with a low tech civilization.

    4) what is the last film you watched?

Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX 3d, for the 4th time. My friend Lins and I are addicted and she made me go again.

    5) what series or box collection have you watched?

I've watched dozens...the most recent one would be Penny Dreadful. It is a very clever and dark take on the old monster stories of Dracula, Frankenstein and the like.

    6) do you have a favourite sports team, if so who?

Auld Reekie Roller Derby girls! AARG!

    7) If you could change one thing about the world today what would it be?

A clean, sustainable source of energy for the entire planet that was not owned by some asshat corporation would be a very, very good thing.

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

I don't idolize anyone as I understand how flawed everyone is. I have people I consider "heroes" but I'd never want to meet them as I know they would never live up to my ideal.

    9) What country would you most like to visit if you could go anywhere in the world?

I wanna go back to America and see the deep south.

    10) What would be your ideal job?

Photographer...which is great cause I start a course in photography in 8 days...so I'm getting there.

Still more varied answers with reading.

Interesting that nobody really idolises anybody.

When I wrote that question I had to sit and think for a few mins myself. Probably should have asked who do you admire?

    Or who your influences are?

    8) who is your idol if you have one or somebody you admire most?

MY idol is Laurie Matthew - You would have to read her book to understand why, but the changes she made in her own life, in order to protect others and help change the lives of other, just inspires me and gives me hope.

    Italy... Or America

    10) What would be your ideal job?
