    Title: Tempered

    His words were poetry.
    Every ebb and flow-
    Rhyme and verse,
    etched into my bones.

    The darkness that gave birth
    to the tempest in
    His eyes-
    Lent contrast to his splendor,
    casting fragility as beauty;
    Disguising fault lines as
    artistic interpretations of
    History.

    He was a glass fortress.
I spent hours memorizing floor plans
    to navigate
    the labyrinth of his soul.
    I became disoriented.
    Lost among rooms and corridors
    omitted from architectural blueprints.

    He was tempered in
    fires of doubt,
    and I bore witness.

    Title: Last phone call

    "Hi"- (don't sound so enthusiastic)...

    (Silence, she sighs nervously)

"Hi" I sob out, barely a whisper.

"You lost the war within, didn't you?"

"Depression's mask is a permanent mark
once it's placed on you. I'm sorry.
I hung on for as long as I could, I'm
too tired, I need to go to sleep now."

"Will I ever see you again?"

(Placing the phone over my heart)

    "Soon...I hope."

The many faces of a Spoon

    Patches of darkness
    linger upon an old country
    road that whispers "Coward",
    or "He's going to Hell"-

    What is now left behind
    are pieces of a granddaughter's
    broken heart, for my Papa
took his life upon a hill
with a gun and a yearning
    to see Grandma again.

    Society speculates on a smile
    with a hidden darkness tucked
    behind depressions noose.

    His spirit lingers within
    tumbleweed winds and his
    contagious giggle as I tried
to herd cattle in his size thirteen
    boots.

My love for him didn't fade
    because he chose the day
and time to rest in peace,
It just made me miss him
    a little sooner than expected.

    Dedicated to my Grandfather
    "Mr. Roy Spoon" I'll always
    love you Papa-

    Genie in a bottle

Genie in a bottle, not one more binge,
    A snort's no different than a syringe.
Please darkness don't make me take my belt off,
Tired of the strong that look at me and scoff.
Not understanding why I can't take the step
that will put an end to all my insane rep.
I thought I was the Genie in the bottle
Escaping pain in my plane at full throttle.
