Clubs Announcement

    Hi PnQers,

The mod team has some news regarding clubs here on PnQ. We have come to a conclusion that something needs to change with the clubs and how they are currently run. Over the last few days the mod team has been in deep discussion about what we can do to improve the quality of our PnQ experience. We have come to a decision that we hope you all understand. Please stand by and wait for Larry to provide you with the details.

After great deliberation, the new mod team has determined that the greatest problem with PnQ are the clubs.
Henceforth, the rule that two years inactivity will lead to deletion of the club will be changed. From this point, five hours inactivity will cause a club to be deleted. Additionally, no new clubs will be allowed.
It is hoped that this move will lead to greater activity on the main boards.

Edit...well that was a quick announcement so I take my original winge back....

5 hours? That a bit rough don't you think?
Does that mean, if the Mods are inactive for 5 hours they will all be deleted too? I mean one rule for all in a democracy etc?

:o Holey crap. And I enjoyed the club's haha... I don't enjoy the main boards as much (maybe I'm the problem) Ohh well. I'm trying to be more active on the boards.
    Edit:

I think it's fair. 5 hours for every member... that's a bit of time for most clubs. SOme of the inactive ones will be tough

Though I think 12 would be better. Half a day

    My initial reaction was AGAINST.
But now... I'm curious to see the effects.

I'm wondering when this rule will come into effect....taking note that LTFR (Larry's club) have not posted since 16 Nov...

Is it 5 hours of posting or 5 hours of no one online?

    Is this a joke?

We deleted Internal Suffering & The Voice of the moon today.
We'll start deleting more soon. Get posting if you want to keep your clubs!

  • Hellon

I think you should delete LTFR...just to keep things fair :)

  • abracadabra

It's a bit outrageous, but it's encouraging to see some revolutionary ideas from the new mods. This could actually work.

However, I think you should at least provide a 48-hour grace period for all clubs after privately messaging all the managers and assistants. That's only fair(er).

  • Hellon

But...can't you see the implications Abby? What about us non-club members? There will be hell on about us 'getting away' with the rule...falling under the radar etc...there will be law suits, strikes, hair pulling...down voting....jealousy that we can still have our 8 hours beauty sleep and hold down a job...even visit the hairdresser once a month without having to sweat about posting every 5 hours in the 'non-members' club...no. it won't work :)

  • Narph

I don't agree with this. I particularly dislike the fact that no new clubs will be allowed. That's ridiculous.

  • abracadabra

I dunno, having more people being active on the main forums is great. Narph, isn't that what you were posting about just the other day? I'm all for open diversity. Let's go for one big, sharing community and less segregation. Why do people feel the need to start clubs here anyway? Aren't there enough forums here to post under?

I'd be interested in a trial. Could the clubs just be made temporarily inactive rather than totally deleted?

    Hellon, however, has a point.

  • CuteThingsGoneWrong

As a club member.... who mostly posted in clubs... I'm very shy and probably won't post much. It might seal the deal for some members. They might leave. Not that I'm leaving but yeah

  • Narph

Was I, Abby? I don't remember specifically. I'm sure, though, that I never advocated for shutting down the clubs.

  • CuteThingsGoneWrong

So... imo we should have a countdown timer (not that y'all can do that)... a pm sent to all members. And it shiuld happen in 1 week so everyone has a chance of seeing the post

  • Nicko

Yes a trial would be great... not that it matters to me as i'm currently saving all my poems before shutting my account and moving to another poetry site

    Done my dash here........

I agree with weeding out the inactive clubs. It helps the site look 'cleaner' and more organized in a sense. However, I don't like the option of not being able to open a new club. Maybe there could be some kind of application to fill out as to why you want to open a new club, explain your vision, etc... and the Mods would have to approve it first? It would at least give members a chance at opening their own club instead of completely taking the option away.

As for the 5 hour rule, I think it should at least be bumped up to 12, for the time zone difference.

    Just my two cents, though.

  • Sunshine

Oh lalalalaa...I actually like the idea ! But I am against the time thing and the fact that we won't be allowed to run a new club afterwards.. 5 hrs is a Very short period of time.

  • Nicko

Our club is inactive for days at a time ... I don't want to wake up and find my club gone... it would kill me inside

That's why I'm leaving, being here is like sleeping with Hitler

God knows what DDavidd would say if he was still here

  • Sunshine

Lol Nicko in a sad way, that was funny :l

  • Hellon

LTFR have now covered themselves but..were they pressured to do so? Honestly I think give them a two week notice and then cancel the club but...I have to go away shortly myself so...being a member of the non-member group should I be worried that I will be cancelled also???

  • Sunshine

Lol Hellon I actually posted for the club members to notify them about the new rule. I believe they deserve to be notified about the consequences before they sign in and find themselves clubless.

I will try to get things flawing better in our club, if it worked that would be great. Otherwise, gotta accept what it is.

But 5 hrs, with actions already being taken before other memebers from dif timezones wake up is still kind of tough.

  • uttAm

I hope the moderators must be kidding and if not, than i'm totally against this new rule of 5 hours inactivity and ofcourse of not being allowed to open new clubs anymore.....i think the mods should discuss and atleast extend the time limit from 5 hr to 24 hrs or else within days to come there will be no clubs left alive.:)

  • Hellon

Nana..I was just trying to make a point..I think 5 hours is unrealistic if you consider time zones...I can be as much to 5 hours behind cities in Australia sometimes for gods sake...take the rest of the world and...yes, we have a problem mods...5 hours? I'd go for 5 days or even weeks perhaps...nothing more than that when everyone is aware that you are going to delete clubs that are no longer active...

"And the thing about my jokes is, they don't hurt anybody. You can
take 'em or leave 'em - you can say they're funny or they're terrible
or they're good, or whatever, but you can just pass 'em by. But with
Congress, every time they make a joke, it's a law! And every time
    they make a law, it's a joke! "

    O_O

    Edit: O_O I'm shocked.

Double Edit: 5hrs sounds unrealistic. A week or two sounds more reasonable.

  • Sylvia

Am not against deleting inactive clubs but 5 hours is unrealistic. It needs to be at least 12 hours to account for the time differences of the club members.

The only thing this is going to solve is less clubs in the list, it is not going to make people take part in the forums or be more active. Sounds more like a dictatorship than anything, you will be active or we will delete you.

I cannot speak for all the PR club members but I can voice my feelings and what I think I get from the club members is that there is to many "arguments" that begin in the topics in the forums. Discussions that start out civil, then the topic gets sidetracked and the "arguments" begin.

Nothing else to say other than I am against this change unless the hours are adjusted and the forums are controlled to be more civil to people who wish to participate.

Don't you think 5 hours is unfair specially for small clubs?
    Ps:Sylvia is right.

As many of you realize, this has been a joke. However, it has been a serious joke. The mods have been discussing the fact that in many of our clubs activity has been nonexistent for large periods. While we would love to see it return to the activity we used to have, even the drama, we're not sure that's within our power.
We hoped to shake things up and get people talking about it. Hopefully it would even stir up activity in the clubs.
In reality, there are many inactive clubs. Our current policy of deleting them after two years seems inadequate.
Obviously, deleting your club with no activity for five hours was a joke. But what is the proper time? Two years is too long. What about 18 months? One year? Six months? You guys tell us. We're listening.

  • Sylvia

One (1) month seems reasonable to me. If that is not possible then six months would be my vote.

  • Darren

    One month.

I think 30 days without activity is reason enough to delete the club or at least PM the Manager or assistants or both.

    Edit

Great minds think alike or so they say!!

  • uttAm

I think one month will be fair enough....or maybe three.
