Something Difficult

So yesterday I thought of writing a funny poem and believe me I'm never thinking in that direction ever again. So portraying humour is something I find super difficult. What do you find difficult?

    What do you find difficult?

Getting a good review in the average contest in this forum lol

My answer probably was too flip.
What I meant was that I have difficulty keeping humor OUT of my writing. Whether irony, tongue-in-cheek, or silliness it seems to creep in most of my work.

The humour section is a tough one as a lot of us found out during the last club v club writing marathon.

I would say don't give up though, it is worth a go. Just read aloud to yourself. If you laugh then it will hopefully come across to everyone else that it is funny.

    What do I find difficult?

The list is as long as my arm
(I have arms like an Orangutan so it is a hell of a list)

Finishing something is quite high on this list, I have posted many poems that I threatened to go back, edit and finish.
I have painted half a picture
I have learned 3 chords on a guitar out of a possible couple of thousand
    ditto bass and banjo,
I don't even like getting dressed all in one go in the morning!!!

But topping the list is saying no to my daughters. Now that is difficult, they have me right where they want me.

No what I mean is irony and sarcasm are okay, but outright mockery or describing a funny scene is where I have a problem

Writing humor is really hard. . .

I want to learn how to write black humor though. That's difficult.

Edit: Michael... If you don't mind me asking, What would you consider a good review?

I should have put a smiley face after my comment . I was not really implying that the contest reviews here are not fair I just find it harder to see my own mistakes when it comes to an intense critical analysis of my work :)

Lol Michael, I should have put a smiley face after my comment too. I wasn't implying that you were implying that the reviews weren't fair rather I was curious as to what a "good review" constintutes in your opinion. XD

I find it difficult to write a review.

Most of us have receptive devices for the five senses , yet we may interpret the data from our own perspective . A sense of humor may be no less dependent on our own cultural experiences in a funny way..... pardon the pun lol

More then any genre, humor is the most difficult to write. I've tried writing a funny episode from real life into poetry. But after writing it there was no humor at all!

It takes great skill and talent to write humor compared to writing about other feelings.

Once I was inspired to write a tragedy that ended as a comedy , but if I put it in the funny poem slot I feared the expectation for a knee slapper may have been too great

So we all agree humor is one of the most difficult thing to write, is there anyone who knows someone who writes humor and would help us? That'd be gr8 according to me.

    Great piece Michael, that one.

My humor turns out corny, cheesy. I have no problem writing it but usually the only person laughing is me.... Dark or black humor is very fun to write...

^ Same here, or mine are overdone and re-used but I still find funny! In my theatre class when I was younger, our director always said comedy is the hardest to portray, and is often done wrong, by trying too hard to be funny. I don't know how one can learn it, I think a lot of it may be in subtle tones?

Don't have much experience with black humor though

I love humor in speech and everyday conversations. I've mastered that when i need it. past that though, i can't write it. Ever

That's the thing right, humor in speech and in writing is a totally different thing, one can be sardonic in conversations but in writing, haven't seen such a piece till now.

    Then writing for mixed audience

This comedian was telling a joke that began with
"once there was this mule skinner
A mule skinner protested "why is does it have to be a mule skinner
So the comedian altered the start of the joke
once there was this City Slicker skinning a mule

So guys I finally did it, my first attempt at humor. This is an encounter of a normal man and a person who blindly follows all fake saints etc. Who just rob you of your money and mostly also of your senses!! Well, if you have ever been to India you would know what I mean!! You can comment on it and tell me if something needs to be added!! (Really high hopes from this one!!).

Being nice all the bloody time! I can't stand it, to be honest and completely fair at one point in my life I stood there to be slaughtered by other people's hateful words, hated the fact that they viewed me as annoying and I couldn't say what I wanted because I knew no better.

  • John Doe

I find being nice at any bloody time difficult, like I shouldn't say it, but I am one pain in the ass even according to my views.

Smiling and caring, because sometimes I don't give a flying duck if you're alive or dead, because I'm already dead inside at times.
