Soul poll

Of the poets at PQ there are many that have never thought about what they believe about the essence of individuality

Some believe a "soul" or person begins at one point and ends at a point I-------------I

Some believe a "soul" starts at a point but does not end
    I----->>>>>>>>>>>>

Others see an eternal "soul" with no beginning or end
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Anyone care to state their belief ?

I don't know about beginning but I think a soul never dies. It is immortal

Eternal (adj.) Look up eternal at Dictionary.comlate 14c., from Old French eternel "eternal," or directly from Late Latin aeternalis, from Latin aeternus "of an age, lasting, enduring, permanent, everlasting, endless," contraction of aeviternus "of great age," from aevum "age" (see eon). Used since Middle English both of things or conditions without beginning or end and things with a beginning only but no end. A parallel form, Middle English eterne, is from Old French eterne (cognate with Spanish eterno), directly from Latin aeternus. Related: Eternally. The Eternal (n.) for "God" is attested from 1580s.

Well you have a great point from a metaphysical point of view there may be no point in time in a concrete sense that a fetus becomes a person

I was taught my soul is eternal but it may not have existed before I WAS CONCEIVED

    I LOVE WORD GAMES LOL

The idea of a soul in Islam is neverending. In islam we are a ''breath of god's soul'' according to the Quran. Which means that technically we are a fragment of god's soul (though very small). Since we're a fragment of god's soul, our souls existed infinitely and was born after being seperated from god.

In Islam a soul doesn't die and isn't born with the body. The soul exists in 4 different worlds: Aalam eldar (before bodily birth, which is why we have deja-vu), Aalam eldonya (where our souls are born into bodies and die), Aalam albarzakh (where our souls go after death until the end of the world - Qiyammah - there we are judged, punished or rewarded), and Aalam elaakhera (heaven or hell).

So, in Islam the soul's existance is infinite, but it goes through worlds.

You asked about our belief of souls, but there are many who don't believe in them.

    Michael I agree with you!

    Thank you Britt

Acts 17:28 I knew you even before you were conceived ...

    Galatians 1:15
But when God, who set me apart from my mother's womb and called me by his grace, was pleased

    Psalm 139:15
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

    Psalm 139:16
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

    Isaiah 49:1
Listen to me, you islands; hear this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my mother's womb he has spoken my name.

    Isaiah 49:5
And now the LORD says-- he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD and my God has been my strength--

I believe that we all come in this world with a soul but it isn't ignited until it's tempered with, life experiences good and bad help ignite as well as temper our soul and when we die our soul doesn't die but lives on in the form of memories!

  • Michael D Nalley

Some believe we a bodies with souls others feel we are souls with bodies

  • John Doe

I believe that soul or bodies both are useless unless properly utilized so how does it matter if it's soul with body or body with soul,it's what you do with them that matters!

    I believe that

I also feel that we are here for a purpose and the day that purpose is achieved we go(that's why I recommend people to do nothing, those who wish to live long),and this purpose isn't given by god(cause I don't believe in god) but by the world itself

The twenty questions game made me think of the entities /beings that are most remembered. Also every cell in our bodies are linked to DNA that has a copy and cell memory . The changes to the world by ideology can be good or evil . Do you have a take on conscience and why some humans seem to have evolved higher in that respect?

  • John Doe

About conscience and why some humans seem to have evolved higher than others?
Again conscience is for our selves so it's what kind of life we live, what kind of atmosphere we are brought up in,what kind of community we live in develops our conscience and thus people who get to see a wide wide range of atmospheres, communities, experiences have a different view of the world. As for evolution,it's a constant process those who seem a higher evolved today could seem average tomorrow it's all about what and how we do things in life, how we use the opportunities we get and what we can make out of them!
What are your thoughts on evolution?

  • Michael D Nalley

I think Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi would have been someone my mentor would have liked to have met .Merton got along quite well with the Dalai Lama and seemed not concerned about his soul even though Merton was an ordained priest

  • John Doe

Whoa! but that doesn't answer my question!(Or maybe it does and I just don't understand it !)

  • Michael D Nalley

My thoughts on evolution is that many aspects of it are like the heliocentric theory and have been proven by technological instruments but that does not lessen the need for philosophy or positive spirituality

  • John Doe

I agree at least to the first part, though is what drives us forward and thats what would lead us!

Less is often better especially when it comes to cigarettes , what is your take on your avatar ? :)

  • John Doe

It's a metaphor see If you have seen or read or heard about John green's fault in our stars the guy puts a cigarette in his mouth but never lights it i.e he holds his death between his teeth but never gives it power to kill it,that's what I feel life is about also the person in my picture is Benedict Cumberbatch who plays Sherlock a personal favorite!

  • John Doe

So thats what i want to say,we hold a lot of deaths in our mouth every day it's just when one of them comes alive,we aren't left alive.

  • Michael D Nalley

    That is very true

That's why I wish I could have been good at drawing, I have a lot of pictures in my mind that say a lot but i am never able to get them on paper, also if I could draw i would have been someone who gives those funny cartoons in papers n all.

My belief is that a soul exists. But also after reading one of Ddavidd poems, one drop, two drops, three drops and so on make an ocean... So we all are God Per se. If we all come together in unity, we can make great things happen.

  • John Doe

I agree unity does have a power a power a hundred individuals can't hold!

  • John Doe

So now I need to ask like we all have a strong emotional side but how practical are we all?

  • John Doe

I know but think if there's rare balance of these!!

  • gumshuda
9 years ago, updated 6 years ago

    Lol...I didn't understand like always.

  • John Doe

It's like having emotions but at the same time being able to control oneself in order to stay on the track!! Would be like leading 2 lives and having a prefect balance between them!

  • gumshuda
9 years ago, updated 6 years ago

If you people are arguing whether this is possible or not.
i say this is possible, we can control ourselves with practice.

But I do not understand how did the topic come to this??? o.O
Were we not discussing on souls and stuff.

Edit : Lol....today is the day when i won't understand anything.

  • John Doe

That would be me so what's your view on soul and conscience??
    and on evolution??

  • gumshuda
9 years ago, updated 6 years ago

    I am a soul.

  • John Doe

People say I am too emotional but these are those ho don't know me very well there's a logical side a rationale that keeps me from doing stuff I would love to do,stuff bad for me,I wish this rationale was more dominant then I could have achieved the balance we are discussing about!!

  • John Doe

No what I mean is according to Michael's theory what's your take on soul??

  • Michael D Nalley

There is one thing we have not discussed yet , a concept that is not totally eastern, that is rebirth, (and even more controversial in the west), reincarnation.

  • gumshuda
9 years ago, updated 6 years ago

    I believe in rebirth.

  • John Doe

Sorry I don't believe either in resurrection or rebirth people are like time once they're gone they're gone!!!

  • Michael D Nalley

In that sense that soul is a collection of life's experiences that can really never be downloaded lol There are no backups when the computer crashes RIP
