    Rhyme Scheme, Rhythm, & Metering Challenge (Exercise)

    This is a exercise exploring writing with a Rhyme Scheme and employing Rhythm & Metering. We shall explore writing with a more complex Rhyme Scheme variation and use Rhythm & Metering to accent it. Below are the specifics:

    Rhyme Scheme;
    ABBA CDDC
    EFG EFG, EEF GGF, or EFE GFG
    Two Quatrain & Two Tercets

    Metering;
    8 TO 12 Syllables per line or 4 to 6 Beats

    Each line must contain the same number of Beats or Syllables per line, preferably Tetrameter, Pentameter, or Hexameter

    Tetrameter: 4 Beats per line (8 Syllables)
    Pentameter: 5 Beats per line (10 Syllables)
    Hexameter: 6 Beats per line (12 Syllables)

    Rhythm: Spondaic, Iambic or Trochaic can be employed;

    Spondaic: (accented/accented)

    Iambic: (unaccented/accented)

    Trochaic: (accented/unaccented)

    You can write in any style you want or choose, as long as you employ the Rhyme Scheme variations given and make use of Metering. The intent of this exercise is to challenge yourself to use more complex Rhyme Schemes and verse yourself in using the poetry basics of Rhythm & Metering. The objective is to make you a better poet and therefore get you writing better poems. When you complete your poem post it here in the topic and post a link to the submitted to p&q version, so people an vote & comment you if they wish.

    Good Luck & Good Writing.

    (Make sure you indicate the Meter in which the poem is written.)

    Title: A Bluebird

    If I were birds like those above our heads,
    The ones that fly by fluttering their wings,
    I want to be that blueish one that sings,
    So I may sing to you as the tide ebbs.
    And while, you sit in here, upon this bench,
    And while, you feel the sand amid your toes,
    I want to sing to you in verse or prose,
    Until my voice becomes those waves that drench,
    your mind and soul with joy as the sun sets.
    And as the moon appears before our eyes,
    And as the stars illuminate the skies,
    I want to sing to you without regrets,

    Until my songs become the sea you hear,
    Until my songs remove your every fear.

    ---

    Here is my attempt Robert, Thanks for the challenge.

    Thank you, Have you ever written any poem using just Spondee?

    I have tried that one but it's really hard. I find myself interchanging either iambic or trochaic.

    Very good Robert!

    Could you try to write one but this time using just Trochaic as the rhythm? I was trying to write one but it's taking me longer than I thought. I can now understand why they say iambic is the easiest Meter (rhythm) to write with.

    P.s. Do you know the name of that type of sonnet? Like I know there's Shakespearean sonnets/English sonnet, Spenserian sonnet, etc..? So I may know its background

    ^^ Per my research Everlasting. it does not have a name. I researched the rhyme scheme and couldn't find a sonnet matching.

    No Paradise Exist, Quite As, Divine.
    When In, Your Presence, I Float On, Cloud Nine.
    Exhilarated, You Leave Me, Each Time.

    Nothing Matches, The Splendor You Bestow.
    I'm Left, Intoxicated, By Your Lure,
    Fascinated, Transfixed, And Wanting, More,
    Entranced, By The Siren Song You Bellow.

    In Every Fashion, You Are, A Goddess,
    An Enchanting Creature, Of Lure, And Myth,
    A Bit, Of Heaven, A Beauty, Flawless.
