Good morning PnQers! Britt here! Please help us congratulate the amazing winners and HM's - the first of the new year!!

Thank you to the new panel of judges who made this week go much smoother than the posting did! We had one judge unable to vote this week, so 1 sub-judge. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your commitment!

Please bear with me as I had this set to post, and then hit the wrong button and lost it all. I am updating bits and pieces as I am able to at work! :)

From Title to Toes by SunShine:

"After reading many complex poems I was captured by the simplicity of the romantic rhyming poem. I felt the emotion and pure love the poem conveyed." (10)"

Gone Forever by UttAm (10 points)

I enjoyed this piece simply because of the personification of 2014. You gave the year characteristics and used symbolism to describe what 2014 brought that was good and also what was bad. You gave life to a year in an interesting way and I think every reader could find something in this that would also represent his or her year. I found the word 'suffocatingly' to sound a little off here, I believe you were better off having 'you are suffocating, catching your last breaths today'. You had some lovely word choice throughout that provoke nostalgia and memories, 'carols', 'celebrations' and 'funerals' to name a few. I'm particularly fond of how you opened this poem, I half expected you to be writing this for someone aged in your life and was pleasantly surprised when I got to the end. Congratulations on writing a lovely poem, I wish you a wonderful 2015!

    Gone Forever - UttAm - 10

The creativity of this piece caught my attention after I read it the first time. The way it leads you into a false start of thinking the poem is about a person, but the twist comes when you realise it is about the last year passing by. I thought the poem was well constructed. A dedication to saying goodbye to 2014!

If I could stop the hands of time by Rings of Poetry AKA Naughtymouse - 10 points

This poem raised up the level for this week, it was hard to find a competing poem.
Beautiful by all means; the flow was smooth, the rhyme scheme was excellent and nailed, and above all it maintained a well-coherent structure.

The imagery in this poem is absolutely sweet, the key metaphors were simply deep and deeply simple; I love poems with depth yet delivered with simplicity.

Well done to you, Rings of poetry, this is a winner with or without a front page tag.

    HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Reside Within Mine Heart (Rhyming Old English)
by Rings of Poetry AKA Naughtymouse

    This Rhyme piece is outstanding!

Word usage of a creative style old English, styled and encased in a beautiful rhyme pattern along with an elegant message is why I chose this as my ten choice!

Breathtaking imagery. I could sense some breezy undertones, like the woman's hair was blowing in the wind. Standing in a land all her own. Just the visuals I received while reading. One of the most beautiful pieces I have read to date this New Year!! (10)

    Sea green butterflies (day 27)
    by Adreamer

Simplistic elegance here! Short poetry at its finest!
Adreamer left me speechless this week.

Opposites attract and unite in a beautiful love!
The title is creative but very significant. A different color of butterflies, uniting as one.
Creating a soft earthy color together as one.. Growing in their own creative love!
A ton of messages are brought to the table in this short piece of loveliness!
    Just beautiful! (7)

The frost that coats our throats
    by Poet on the Piano

Mary Anne has a gift, of taking her words and making poems her own, in any genre she chooses!
This nature poem is unique and powerful, mixing nature of humans and nature as a whole. The metaphors are styled in a graceful undertone that leaves the reader speechless! Frost is a powerful form of nature to use in sending a message. Just powerful!! (4)

Kindness Past October by Saerelune (7 points)

When a poet labels their work vents I find it almost degrading to a piece like this. You have written something special here and even in this piece I see your work evolving. You are always extremely clever in your writing, it's planned but lately you've managed to let go a little and I see emotion escaping from you. This piece reminds me of longing and desire for things that you feel are just out of reach. I'm not sure exactly what you're longing for and I'm not even sure if you know yourself but knowing what a clever girl you probably do. I think for me what really made me enjoy this was how you liked the first few lines of the fourth stanza back the very first line when you begin it with "I".

2014 was by Yaki (4 points)

The first stanza was powerful. I feel as though the reader put a lot of thought into the first paragraph, provoking emotions and describing their loss and life in a wonderful, yet lonesome way. I do think that after the first stanza the poet let emotion take over, I think she had a story to tell that could not be confined or constrained by the poetry or logic. The references to the poet's father and homeland were beautiful. I hope to see these aspects further channeled in the writers work because I believe when she writes about these topics she is able to pinpoint emotions that are rare, raw and honest.

Unlike Love by Michael D Nalley - 7 points

There is something to this poem that drew me toward it so strongly; it took me back to a different era, not so modern yet fits in that classy genre of poetry.

I loved the pace while reading Unlike love; the absence of punctuation worked very well in favor of this poem.

There is so much to cherish about this poem, I really appreciated almost every expression used. It was brilliant how you maintained the same tone throughout the poem yet left so many different emotions in me as a reader.

hands up for this poem! Definitely another piece to be distinguished among the rest of nominations.

    Well done.

Christmas Confession by Adreamer - 4 points

I went by my emotional IQ while voting for this poem. For instant I was not fond of the narrations at one level, however, there is this emotional and moving element in your poem which I've failed to find combined with a poetic tone, in one piece
(in the rest of contest nominations). At least this one called for me best.

I am keen of your I am a snow flake repetition, it was quite delicate, and nice to read after your verses.

"Which is exactly why I" < that line really ruins the lyrical breath in your poem, it's suddenly shifting into a "Wh" phrase, by the time your previous lines were quiet smooth.

I loved your confession, hopefully the recipient loved it too!

    Christmas Confession - Adreamer - 4

The title to this poem caught my attention actually. The poem shows the insecurity of the author, and she expresses this with the metaphor of a fragile snowflake. The poem is smooth to read, clearly showing that this character wants to love and trust someone, but is in fear of that love being returned in case they get hurt. Nicely structured and well worded poem.

    Natures Way
by Rings of Poetry AKA Naughtymouse 7 points

This poem implied the prefix super before natural for me and painted a beautiful testament to my idea of intelligent design in a concrete way

    Chrysanthemum under a Falling Snow
    by Maple Tree 4 points

This poem flowed right into my heart with its subtle paradoxes Mother, our nature
has seen a sorrow unknown to mankind, was the perfect middle to the beautiful imagery delivered very poetically on many levels
