What things have you made yourself, either in your house or something different, or for someone else?

Cards for others ie: birthdays, anniversaries etc. Cakes icing and all the full works! If this is what you are asking about :)

    Yeah anything at all!

    I like making birthday presents!

But rubbish at making other things like furniture, or customising clothes, etc. Some people can make lots of creative things!

I was stumped this Christmas of what I could buy my Dad and stepmother.

I found their old wedding photo on facebook and thought I would have a go at painting them on canvas using acrylic. I am no portrait artist so I thought I would paint them a bit differently. I decided I would try mosaic style.

    the results are below.

My boyfriend and I built a bar/dining table, plant box, shoe rack, picture frames, a cat tree, speaker mounts, bench, some wall art. I made a few pieces of clothing. I also made my horse a bridle from leather scraps.

    Darren...

Seriously I'm very impressed with your artwork...how exactly did you get this effect?

BTW...you and your dad look very much alike :)

Thanks Hellon, my Dad would be pleased to hear that, He looks a bit different now,

I messed around with the light and shade on my pc so that it was quite dark, then spent a day drawing little squares on a canvas, then coloured them in with Acrylic paint. Like a large mosaic design.

Darren...I really am intrigued by this and would love to try it out. Did you use a programme to change the lighting...like photo shop or something? Also, did you sketch the picture onto the canvas with the squares on it?

I guess I should include my own DIY while I'm here :)

Always been good at handicrafts...knitting, sewing...toilet roll crafts (ask if you wanna know more haha!!) but my proudest item is a silver necklace that I designed and made myself from scratch. It is a pair of hands holding a circle (circles cannot be broken) and I have each of my grandchildren's initials punched within the circle. It took me ages to get the hands just right because they had to be quite small....

Should I have put this in the jewellery thread perhaps???

Meena & Karla, I'm with you on making homemade cards. I would do it for family and friends growing up. Granted I do not have artistic skills in drawing but I would always love to set aside some time with markers/colored pencils and figure out what colors I'm going to use, what flowers to incorporate, etc.

^^That's sweet Sir...am sure your wife loved it :) I was wondering what that picture was.

Yes making cards are fun, am not much of a drawer either but I use a lot of gathered things old, new etc and create them cards for occasion.

Uncle Larry... That is... Beautiful.... Awesome...

Even I made a few wonderful cards for useless people who I hardly think have those cards of mine which took me hours and days to make *rolls eyes* ... My poor choice of friends I suppose..

I paint. I love origami.... I made an origami rose(which took a lot of hard work) once but my stupid brother didn't see that there was my rose on the bed and sat on it... I hate him for that *again rolls eyes*

Hmmm.... I've made many things but just forgot what all I made... Because I made it all for my once upon a time stupid friends..
