She stood -
alone as she had ever felt
and wondered what the point
of her existence
could possibly be.
There was a grocery list
full of bad habits
and she chewed on the edges
praying they would fray,
yet they never did.
She looked back
on the year she was born,
and wished her family
had chosen another avenue -
one that would lead
to their disappointment
instead of hers.
She still stands alone,
wishing,
hoping,
praying for the miracle
she doesn't believe in.

The Only One
She's a shapeshifter but
everytime she's near her form is clear;
there's fire in her eyes. A fixed, warm
stare it bounces back and forth for days
if only she knew. Feet clop pacing halls -
up and down fingers tapping walls
and a thought racing maelstrom
I can't get her out, she's a whirlwind
light speed swirling for days,
if only she knew. Opened my mouth once,
something funny slipped out;
said "you're not the only one,"
to which she replied:
"been
thinking about you
for days".

Face the Sun
When we face the sun,
leave shadows behind
our demons run,
or they will go blind.
To keep our eyes low
and not be so proud
makes our own path
with our head bowed
shaded from the wrath
of to much to soon.
To stare at light long
from dawn until noon
makes the truth so strong
it may just blind our sight
before we get to the night.

bygone
each eve, i brew the spiritual memory of you.
it is the sweetness i need to lighten my burdens
and soften my onyx eyes when
i've gone cold from you
yet you singe the edges of my heart
while waiting for you -
i hear you in the morning church bells, so gleeful
but i've pulled that rope at all the wrong times,
and now, it's become too frayed.
i can hear the music just fine, dear, these ears
were dug out from golden soil and sculpted to
espouse the sounds of human nature. but dear?
i can't hear the music of you, anymore, and i don't
know how to move forward in this quiet
suppression
of all things living, of all things (you).

No Bravery.
You're blue on blue, today, even below the
oceanic skies you somehow reach me. You're
my high when I'm low. You're the burial ground
for my bones. I cry when you don't cry so please
face me, face the sun... anything, love. You're a
bonfire heart - sure to warm me in my coldest
places, sure to burn on when I've fallen asleep.
I'd send a postcard to you if you remained
somewhere for an infinite moment, but you've
flown away
from me
from civilization
from commitment
too often.
And I don't know what the satellites think
they're picking up, but it's not us, is it
love?

Heart to Heart:
I know you're not used to
being so far from the people
you love. It's not like Life has
ever felt the need to teach you
lessons like this. But sometimes
people just need a change of pace,
something prettier to look at
than a wanna be city and
misused farmland. I'm sorry
you don't like it, go ahead
and cry if you'd like - if you
think it will help. I've been
in town two months now,
I'm about to send you
some postcards from
my way here - I've written
stories from along the way
hoping they will make you smile
just as much as I did. And
by the time you get this,
when you read these words,
I hope you'll know that I love you enough to understand it if you feel
it's time to let go. But you are
the only one who will always
hate me even though we are
in love. You're one of the
brightest stars in my
charcoal sky.
So I hope you'll do
what makes you feel best
and remember to shine on.
