Can't believe we're almost halfway through [March] already! Big thank you to all the past and current judges, for all the hard work and awesome insight you guys give.

Please don't be shy in volunteering for the site contest. We need a crew of 5 and all you need is the nominating status to judge, be willing to read nominated poems, comment/vote each week.

If you're interested, feel free to pm a mod. Or if you want to continue your term, just let us know. Also, if you have someone special in mind you think is qualified, you can nominate them through a pm as well :)

    Thanks, have a great week!

Nia's "Hahaha" was plagiarized from Min!

But seriously, we do need judges within the next couple weeks.

I've been asked to describe a judge's duties:

Judges duties: during the week they read the poems nominated for the weekly contest. On Friday they read any poems they have not already read, choose the best 3, write comments for those three and send the comments to the mod account & vote 10 points for the best, 7 points for the second best, 4 points for the third best.
Keeping their status a secret until their term is up.

[Unfortunately this description is not plagiarized]

Three judges are in, possibly 4.

Now is the time for all good [poets] to come to the aid of their [site].
    (Yeah, plagiarized)

I hope the new judges will be more impartial than their predecessors. Since the beginning of January, there have only been three weeks when at least one mod has not been on the front page. One of the three saw an HM for one mod and the other two, saw neither win nor HM for any of said mods, perhaps they just didn't post a poem to their account in that period.

Bit of one eyed-support going on maybe?

  • Britt

    Been waiting for that. lol

Maybe mods just shouldn't submit poems. People like MA and Meena were winning a lot prior to modding, Melpomene wins every time she posts a poem and has for years, she just rarely posts.

    Hellon,

The best way for a person to assure that the judging adheres to their standard is to step up and do the job.

  • Meena Krish

    ^^Totally agree with you Sir!!

  • Larry Chamberlin

We are considering going with 4 judges.

  • -Choke-On-MY-Halo-

Hope there are fair judges regardless of their awards.

  • Maple Tree

One thing people on here need to understand is that everyone has thier individual views on a good poem... Being fair, is to forget who wrote the poem and focus on the poem itself.... Even then, it may not seem fair to other members on this site... I've been a judge in the past and there will always be members who feel the judging was not quite right.

Please, let's all refrain from being negative towards judges. When you can, volunteer to be a judge, see first hand how it goes before making judgement.

A huge diversity within this community... It's an awesome community, we should all be supportive.

When I judged I never looked at the author. No reason to, who cares who wrote it (judging wise)...

    Really hugs.

I would again but I'm never stable enough to finish a term. It sucks. :/

  • Larry Chamberlin

Stability is overrated for poets (ask Poe or Coleridge) but valuable for judges.

  • -Choke-On-MY-Halo-

Not everyone would choose the same exact poems Mark.

    Larry I agree with you.

Willow don't be sad I was a judge once too, never finished my term, sadly I sucked at it.

    We have a week

Ferris Bueller is out there somewhere just taking the day off.

If so I hope he is not going to sit on his butt as the events that affect the site unfold to determine the course of these awards. Hopefully he's going to take a stand. He's going to defend it. Right or wrong, he's going to defend it.

Senyru, great point. Maybe 3 judges with a spare would be better than 4 judges, but 5 judges would be best of all!

  • BlueJay

I agree with silvershoes ^ 4 seems like it would just cause higher potential of scoring issues/ties. and 5 works well, when they are actually interested in the things they do.

Edit: does the April term start this week or next?

  • Larry Chamberlin

    April starts this coming week.

    We are now covered!!!!

THANKS TO THE OLD JUDGES & FEEL FREE TO EXPOSE YOURSELVES (err) REVEAL YOUR IDENTITIES!

NEW JUDGES WILL GET YOUR PMs TODAY OR TOMORROW & YOUR BADGES LATER IN THE WEEK.

As I tried to say many times everyone involved in the contest (writers & nominators) did a great job which made the judging job very difficult .

At least for my part I will never complain about another judges decision again

This site has very talented poets

  • Meena Krish

^^I agree with you Michael, along with the points made by Andrea too!

A big thanks to the judges for their hard work over the last term, and thanks to those who have stepped forward for the upcoming term :)

We have 5 judges for this term again (not sure if that was mentioned already)
