    Its a choice

people doesnt have to agree, but they can respect the decision made by other people specially if it does not concerns them

The title is actually deliberate irony, in that the choice is not the orientation but whether to publicly embrace it.

We all have fundamental components to our make up that we do not even consider because there is no controversy with them. I had no "choice" to make in loving my wife and raising our children - at least not in the sense of the article.

On the other hand, if I were gay and wanted a same sex partner, the "choice" would not have been whether I would have felt that way. Your emotional being and your personality are not so much choices as they are discoveries. The choice would have been regarding what to do about it. Having grown up in an insular catholic community surrounded by quasi-intolerant fundamentalists, it would have taken considerable courage to act on those desires. The choice would not have been orientation but acting upon it in face of the outrage of friends, family and the public.

Sigh, I am going to get into this because I love this site too much to get suspended, but it is not a choice, we are born this way. Being a Christian is a choice though. Just saying.

Sadly I agree with James, it's not a choice and Larry you're quite right it's a discovery of oneself I still haven't come out of the closet for my parents my mom basically knows except she thinks I'm a lesbian but I'm not I'm in-between.

There's no way in hell that being gay/bi/straight is a choice, I am bisexual, I don't practice it because in all honesty I've tried it and I Defs still prefer males, but I have been attracted to other woman and wondered about being in a relationship with them. It wasn't a choice, and I tried to fight it because in my world I was taught it's taboo, but still I found myself caught in a daydream about being with someone of the same gender, I had major feelings for one of my best friends a few years back and that frightened me, I thought I was a freak because of it. So for those who are proudly bi or gay, I applaud your confidence to admit it and be true to yourself, I'm still working on it.

Ps, I actually read this poem one night in a state of dire boredom and depression, and it just struck me to the core, a stunning and honest piece that was very refreshing to read

If I had a choice, I would be a straight male. Oh trust me, I would never choose to be seen as something less than human by so much of humanity.
