New York's Haunted House???

Ok...I've been intrigued by this house for weeks now and...no, I do not believe in ghosts but...is there another reason why this beautiful home cannot be sold? I mean just LOOK at the interior...I would LOVE to own this place (ghosts included haha) I can see the exterior is in need of some maintenance...OK a LOT of maintenance but...for such a cheap price, why is it still on the market? Couldn't some enterprising person play to the 'ghost enthusiasts and operate a business from here..."Ghost Weekends" etc...what's the deal???

I'm hoping people in America will have access to more info than I do in Australia...does the neighbourhood suck or something???

Wow. I'd buy it just for the price. Although siding alone would cost a lot more & who knows what else needs restoration.

Trouble is with a National Registry listing you have limits on materials you can use, adding to the cost.

As for ghosts: I'm Tennessee-Irish. They're welcome if they enjoy the company of other spirits: Guinness, Baileys, Jameson, Jack Daniel ....

    Awww Hellon,

I'm so excited, you posted the house I've been begging Jim for us to get... It's only 45 min, away from where we live now...

The neighborhood is lovely, small town.... But many people feel its haunted, I feel its unsettled as well.... Which is another reason I want it.... Spirits can be settled.... But anywhoot, it's too large for just Jim and myself.... And it needs a ton of tlc

    Noooooooooooope nope nope nope NOPE.

I have anxiety looking at the house, lol. Beautiful home that definitely needs love and a purpose (because cmon, that is gigantic)... but nope. NOPE. Never. lol. I'm way too much of a wuss for that.

I'm really surprised it's not sold already. There are so many ghost hunting (hunting may not be the right word here lol) enthusiasts that would gobble that up.

I would buy it, those ghosts will soon leg it when they see me first thing in the morning.

Oh Andrea...I'd definitely go for a look if I lived that close to it....go on, take a drive and report back to us. It only has 3 bedrooms BTW.

It's stunning. I would not have guessed it was only 3 bedrooms by the exterior. Andrea, you should go and take some more photos so we can see it through your eyes. The handprints are interesting haha.

Yes..please go Andrea...I beg you!!! I'd love to know so much about this house. I think I read that the present owners paid a lot more for it but only stayed a short while? It was then auctioned but passed in? I love the stain-glass that is displayed but wonder if there's more...it was built by a clergyman so, it's very possible. Would you actually feel a presence? I'm not buying the handprints because my sliding doors are always full of them from the grandkids so....I need more convincing about ghosts than that lol!!!!

Larry..National Registry listing? , this sounds like our heritage listing equivalent but...I think we can apply for grants in Australia...not 100% sure on that but, is there anything like that available over there?

In Tennessee we call it registering with the historical society who can assist you if the house gets condemned . The court will take the historical significance into account and provide time to update the codes

Oh..does that mean this house has been condemned already??? I hope not! Surely it would not be on the market if this was the case. In Australia...Heritage Listed Property means that you have to keep the external and interior structures very close to the original style if you want to update...

Do they have Bed n Breakfast attractions there?

PS The house you linked to looks structurally safe and sound

Thanks Mel..you just busted my dream bubble haha!!! I did read some of the comments, got as far as the one about having to redo all the wiring, new plumbing and removing asbestos before I decided I would not have been able to afford it anyway :) I do wonder, however if the furniture was included...anyone know??

My dream home, oooooh. So pretty. I've never believed in ghosts.

This article is great publicity for the house, extra expenses or otherwise. I'm sure it'll sell soon.
