    Hello friends,
    I was wondering about parodies. I wanted doing a video of a song into a parody. example : eminem song. Am I legally allowed to do that? Or do I need to seek permission from eminem first. I was wondering.
    plz anyone got any idea?

    As far as I'm aware you do not have to seek permission if you basically change a few notes, or key or both, if it is not posted or advertised as an Eminem song then there shouldn't be an issue :)

    Under 17 USC Section 107 the fair use of a work is assessed under a four part test:
    1 the purpose and character of the use, including whether it's non-profit or commercial;
    2 the nature of the copyrighted work;
    3 the amount and substantiality of the portion used;
    4 the effect on the market for or value of the copyrighted work.

    Parodies & satires are granted greater leeway than other derivative works but the four part test is still used if there is a lawsuit.

    There are differences outside the USA. Generally you are subject to the fair dealing policy in Canada, Europe and most other places which has specific exceptions (varying by country) instead of the open-ended fair use policy.
