Weekly Winners 5 October 2015

The site broke a four-way site this week. No poem got more than one vote, so the judges' interests were obviously disparate. Unfortunately we are unable to get in touch with one judge and another blanked out this week. Sorry it took so long to post, but we were trying to contact the other judge through multiple channels to no avail.
Congratulations to the winners and to the HMs. Thanks to the 3 judges who were timely and complete!

    Concede by Britt
A Pointless Picture, A Wasted Scripture by Ben Pickard
Which Bottle of Wine Was It? by Adreamer

    Concede by Britt (10 points)
What a stunning poem. This was touching to the peak. Loved every single emotion it gave me.
The feelings through the wording just simply transmits to one's mind and body. Starting from the cold pillow straight to filtered senses.
Simply sensual, for real a poem worth of recognition!

A Pointless Picture, A Wasted Scripture by Ben Pickard (10Points)
I really like the style of this poem and the theme was romantic on a biblical scale

Guilt sits beside me by Naughtymouse (10 points)
This poem is hands down one of the most emotional poems up to date on PnQ. I was ridiculously in love with the tone this poem released. The punctuation used to break up thoughts and sentences was pretty brilliant as well.
Addressing the reader was my favorite part. There was a connection made there. Almost like the reader was a friend and not a stranger as you were reassuring us not to worry. The stanza about how kind she is and angelic was a sweet touch, but such a sad ending with guilt sitting beside you. Why would one feel guilt if they haven't done wrong? What's crazy though is because of the tone in this piece, knowing you may have messed up still left me sympathetic for you. You win your reader over from the beginning that it doesn't matter what may have happened, the reader is still on your side.

My Lord (Rictameter)by Maple Tree (7 points)
This poem screams front page worthy. Yes short, yes some may say simple, but the fact of the matter is you did a rictameter in old English and that is an awesome writing challenge and you nailed it. Words were perfect! Imagery even more perfect because of how good this poem read. Such a fairytale like scene. Stunning.

Bell Shape Blemish by Larry Chamberlin the Godfather (7 points)
Beautiful piece, beautiful wording. There is no way for the reader to know this short poem would end the way it did.
Although short but still gives you the chill of waiting to know where it will go. Nailed it! It's a literally nailed poem.
    Well done!!

Lunar shade (haiku) by Larry Chamberlin (7points)
I could not resist this haiku that reflected my disappointment about not seeing the astrological event that many related to a shady gloom and doom omen

    ****************************

Save our Trees (Concrete)by Mr Darcy (4 points)
Michael this poem seems like an ultimate challenge! I was impressed once I read what you had to do. I did find many sentences in here I found beautiful but I would say there were a few parts that were a bit too wordy that I had a hard time loving the whole piece. Altogether you still nailed your challenge and created a very detailed nature poem.

Reincarnation of Flowers by Effusive (4)
I seem to never grow weary of a flower metaphor for sensual stimulation and this poem offered a new twist

    ****************************

Saffron Metaphors (Villanelle) by Koan (4 points)
Perfect flow and rhyming scheme. Loved that the title was either extracted from the poem, or the poem itself inspired by the title. Mentioning Saffron metaphors in the last stanza just gave this a nice taste.
I enjoyed reading and rereading. There is a field in this poem, a whole field.
Also the form has a very lyrical musical sound in its repetitive pattern, which also added beauty and I bet it is challenging to build it the way you did without falling somewhere. So hats off !!

And while I'm thanking judges, thanks for the two comments on my poems. It is always appreciated.

Sounds like a really tough week so many thanks Larry and to the judges.
Just like to say congratulations to Ben as well on another stunning write - worthy of the front page by any standards.
    All the best,
    Ben

How very chivalrous of you considering your poem scored a 10 and actually had a comment and...still it didn't win !!!

I'd like to know why Larry has thanked 'three' judges and yet we have quite clearly got four poems with a score of 10? One...strangely with 'no comment available"

and only 3 scores of 7 and 4?...I think a more in depth explanation is needed mods???

1 of the judges was unable to vote/comment this week, so that explains why there's only 3 sets of 7 & 4 votes instead of 5 sets of votes and comments, and I'm guessing the other judge only casted a 10 vote, and the other two votes didn't register or the judge forgot to vote on, and didn't comment for any of the pieces?

& congrats to all those who picked up a win or a HM this week, and thank you judges!

Mark pretty much hit the nail on the head except that there is also the problem that up until posting we were trying to at least get the fourth judge to confirm whether there were two other poems selected or at least give a comment for the one that was.

You seem to be well informed Mark for someone who is not a mod...why is that?

What are the chances of a judge voting a 10 on one poem and then forgetting to leave a comment on it and then...forgetting to vote for the other two????

More to the point, perhaps, has this judge since been contacted in any way to simply confirm they are okay? My guess is that there is probably a good reason as to their not voting/commenting thoroughly.
Anyway, all that aside, maybe the competition should be enjoyed in the spirit of the thing: it's a great little extra weekly that gives a nod to some great work and - more than anything - is a bit of fun. But either way, I personally hope the missing judge is well.
    All the very best,
    Ben

I was a judge before and often times had to vote on my phone, wasn't sure if went through sometimes, and had to check after. In the beginning of my first term, I'd cast votes and then weitr comments during the weekend, things often came up that lead to me submitting my comments early Monday morning. I'd imagine its not too much of a stretch for something to come up for a judge, and they forget about their commitment. 3 judged did get their comments and ckyr in time, 1 judge was unable to get anything in, and 1 judge casted a 10 vote and no other votes, or comments, so I'm guessing either the last two votes didn't register or the judge forgot to cast those votes, and was unable to write any comments.

Yes, Ben. :) Facebook shows us when someone has read a message and we do know it has been read (PnQ needs this option, ha!)

That's good, Britt - I'm not on Facebook, but I hear it can be wonderful.....
    Glad to hear they're well.

Thank you so much, I am totally in awe of the profundity of the entire sentence allotted to my poem.

I just realized I went right into mod mode answering Ben and didn't thank the judges for the sweet comment! <3 <3 <3 Thank you!
