I'm in the process of planning a vacation for next spring, and I just got curious where everyone else is planning to head off to soon-ish? Anyone have any fun vacation plans coming up in the next year or so?

Let me live vicariously through you!

Britt, I have a cruise coming up in January and another in May for Hollys graduation gift. You seen the pics I posted on fb maybe of my most recent. I loved it and addicted to cruising. Whatever you decide to do have a great time.

    Excited to see you, Kay!

I'm off to Melbourne in December, just before Christmas. It's probably my favourite place to visit in Australia. I think it's all the art. Planning to visit the Great Oceans Road this time around.

Oh my goodness, how exciting everyone!

Jason is in the process of booking our flight now. We're headed off to the east coast for a wedding, and turning it into a week long vacation after that's over. I can't flippin' wait! Working on an itinerary now, yippy!

Whats everyones dream vaycay? I swear one day I WILL be in Ireland. It just has to happen!

I always fancied Tokyo, or randomly Chicago

But I have convinced myself that I wont get on a plane,
despite the fact that I have been on one before. My Dad lives and works in Kuwait, My sister has moved to Arkansas, my brother is moving to Perth Australia. My Uncle lives in New York and my cousin lives in Germany. All these potential free holidays.....

So it looks like my dream holiday is to stay in bed for a week John Lennon style.
(I have always got google earth...)

Why won't you get on a plane??

  • Darren

I know that plane crashes are rare, however I don't wont to get on a plane with my kids and have to look at their faces as the plane starts to hurtle into oblivion.

(I have had dreams about this a few times)

Therefore I am not flying anywhere.

The funny thing is I wont get on a boat either, for some reason I feel a bit strange with anything under water. If a nature program shows you under water I start to feel panicky, almost claustrophobic. I have no idea why or where it has come from.

I am turning into a bit of a coward in my old age.

In fact, I envy the guy in monty pythons life of brian who sits in a hole and grows a beard and hasn't spoken to anyone for years. That would be my dream vacation.

Darren! Better confront your fears before they consume you. Or stay at home all day every day, that sounds nice too :)

I'm terrified of heights, but I've been trying to conquer the fear lately because it's debilitating. Even a few feet off the ground without an easy way down and I start to panic. Legs get weak, heart pounds, vision blurs... Watching heights on a show or movie also gives me anxiety. Funny how that works. But! I've been on planes many times and I refuse to let my crippling fear keep me from traveling. I just need a hand to grasp tightly, deep breathing, and my teatree oil (smelling it soothes me lol).

Dream destination is South Africa. Cape Town. I want the city on the beach with mountains behind. I want savannas and safaris. Let me run with the zebras!

    Also, New Zealand and India.

South Africa eh?! You might want to look into the latest South African Crime Statistics! Johannesburg and Cape Town is so messed up that you need a bodyguard with a machine gun to protect you if you are a white business man... lol My Ex and I were there in March and it was horrid... Murder, robbery, jacking your car was an everyday scenery.... I cant afford to go anywhere this year anymore ~deep sigh~ and probably next year but I would love to go to India with one of my best friend. His a young punjabi and being respected their very much... Meaning party time everyday hahaha

Really! Crime statistics are just that: cold meaningless numbers. My wife & I walked many places alone in both Johanesburg and Capetown without problems. On the other hand, like anywhere else in the world we stayed aware of our surroundings and avoided sketchy areas.

We are headed to Dubai on Saturday, with our oldest daughter (on the plane together, Darren). Looking forward to it!

Having grown up in Oakland, California, I have a sense of crime statistics versus reality. I expect Cape Town will be dangerous, but if I'm street savvy and careful, the risks hopefully will be outweighed by the experience.

I appreciate your concern though, Koan!

Sikhism is inherently beautiful, but a lot of the religion is muddled by ancient culture. My ex boyfriend is Punjabi. Punjabi *royalty*... or so he'd like to tell me every day for 2 years. Ha. He was kind, but his family was extremely traditional and sexist. I was kept hidden from them and I expect he'll have an arranged marriage someday (to a Punjabi woman of the same caste).
I think I'd rather explore Southern India.
I might be bitter haha :)

WOW. Dubai. Take lots of pictures.

Are you holidaying in Dubai Larry or just in transit? I've past through many times on my way to UK but have never stopped over...looks wonderful!

I'm off to S Korea on 27th of this month.

Darren...we all have to die of something, at least with a plane crash it would be over in minutes...how many minutes have you wasted already thinking but..what if??? More chances of you getting run over....take the risk man...enjoy life!!

I didn't mean to hijack (see what I did there) an upbeat thread. There is still plenty to do in the UK. We are toying with the idea of visiting the lake district, the kids loved it there last time, they felt like mountain climbers. There is always butlins the holiday camp, the WWE wrestling visits there in November every year, those who have me as a friend on Facebook may already know I have two wrestling daughters on my hands.

Going as part of an annual get together of airline employees (Rosaura is a flight attendant). It's supposed to be all about a 5k & 10k run (which Rosaura always wins & I manage somehow to finish still breathing).

In reality it is a week long party. We plan on a desert excursion with camel ride & sunset dinner, trip to the sky-deck of the Burj Khalifa, visiting the Grand Mosque, shopping at the Dubai Mall and lots of sighhtseeing.

Returning to India for the nth time this December so my baby can meet her great grandparents. So excited, I can never get enough of the place.
Next year, Vietnam or US. While it's free for her to fly.

Dubai? Be prepared to see a lot of gold. It's pretty ridiculous.

Darren, I used to be terrified to fly, too, but then I had the opportunity to go on a big trip with my 8th grade class to go to New York and Washington DC. I couldn't pass it up. I didn't fly again for 12 years, until my honeymoon, because I couldn't pass up Hawaii.

Now I fly to Guatemala every year, went to Vegas, Texas, going to Ohio and maybe Georgia next year. Can't stop myself from seeing other parts of the country. Plus, I'll never get to Europe otherwise.

    Now a boat I won't do..... hahaha.

I really enjoy flying, oddly enough I feel very calm on a plane. However, if you try and get me on a boat ... well that's a different story.

I love to fly, especially if I can get the window (geek); I Like boats in any size & means of propulsion (but mostly sail boats). I really love trains! Long distance trains that lie right on the earth and let you see where you're going.

We might go to either italy or portugal in december
(we being me and my friends)

traveling within Europe is seriously so cheap!

i wannnaaa go to germany too....
I'm gonna have the time of my life here i know it.

but i too used to be terrified of flying, of driving, of boats
    of everything for that matter.

but i told myself, girl if you don't get over it you'll be codependent for the rest of your life. So I put my big girl panties on and now i am a fearless bee.. hahah
