I have at times felt that nostalgia is the forbidden fruit here in the garden of PQ or even in the land of nod

Some of us thought we had found the promised land of rules and guidelines

Bless me father for I have sinned

If you think I am expecting a mountain from a mole hill perhaps it is in your mind

    Sancte Michael Archangele,
    defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
    Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
    tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
    satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
    divina virtute in infernum detrude.
    Amen.[

This is not aimed at any mod or member at this site ,but there are some people that enter a discussion and leave a post as if they expect it to leave an indelible mark on all who read it .
They seem to be the ones that hate to be reviewed or quoted the most lol

Again this is not a reflection on anyone responding to this hopefully lighthearted look back lol

I think I may have made Kevin's heart feel heavier when I linked to a ten year old threads where he cautioned me not to post my poetry in the forums . I never claimed to have written the poem he was complaining about that had such a special meaning to me

I guess I have to say this again seeing as the PM didn't take. Just for the record I did try and explain this to you off the books, for your sake and not mine.

    When you said this to me in the "Image of God" thread ;

"The first thread I posted as in your phrase "keep posting " was where you invited me to start a new thread , it was not unusual for me to feel like a duck in a chicken coop ,because I was going through a renewal of indoctrination . I chalked up to my Aspergers Symptoms that I could not tell from the post whether mods were teasing or genuinely showing human emotion on a poetry site .... imagine that

    http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/discussion/topic.html?topic_id=82809

I am confessing I felt picked on, But I brought the wrath of the members and the mods down on me in the Ten commandments thread, because I could not respond under pressure lol"

I realized just how much real world stress you experience on this site. I know quite a few people with Aspergers and they are all very different, but one thing they have in common is they find specific situations extremely hard to deal with. For some it is social gatherings, for others it is unknown places and travel or breaks in routine etc.

You obviously struggle with situations where you feel you don't understand what is going on. From your words above P&Q is a regular source of that worry for you. I really enjoy debating people Michael but I think it is a form of cruelty and abuse to hammer home debate points at someone who has a learning impairment/mental health issues. It just isn't who I want to be.

It doesn't cause me stress or leave me with a heavy heart or any of the things you suggested. I don't know you enough to care about you but that doesn't change the fact you played the stress/aspergers card and now, with the knowledge you have a learning impairment and find debates hugely stressful I can't really in good conscience treat you like I would anyone else...it just wouldn't be right.

  • Michael D Nalley

That is really kind of surprising, to me, that you associate Asperger syndrome with learning impairment the most, since many men of science believe that Albert Einstein showed many classic symptoms of the now accepted Aspergers syndrome . One of the most successful actors(who is into scientology I don't promote) argued that one of the scientifically accepted psychological terms was absurd, because in order to clinically prove a chemical imbalance one must show what chemical balance looks like . You can treat me however you like Kevin while you suckle at the tit of your masters...degree.......

....are you trying to break my routine? LMAO
    https://youtu.be/6jkBOU9etRA

PS thank you for not implying I was born with an illness

In 2011, he reiterated this argument5:

When a person hears me say that there is no such thing as mental illness, he is likely to reply: "But I know so-and-so who was diagnosed as mentally ill and turned out to have a brain tumour. In due time, with refinements in medical technology, psychiatrists will be able to show that all mental illnesses are bodily diseases." This contingency does not falsify my contention that mental illness is a metaphor. It verifies it. The physician who concludes that a person diagnosed with a mental illness suffers from a brain disease discovers that the person was misdiagnosed: he did not have a mental illness, he had an undiagnosed bodily illness. The physician's erroneous diagnosis is not proof that the term "mental illness" refers to a class of brain diseases.

Such a process of biological discovery has, in fact, characterised some of the history of medicine, one form of "madness" after another being identified as the manifestation of one or another somatic disease, such as beriberi or neurosyphilis. The result of such discoveries is that the illness ceases to be a form of psychopathology and is classified and treated as a form of neuropathology. If all the conditions now called mental illnesses proved to be brain diseases, there would be no need for the notion of mental illness and the term would become devoid of meaning.

One can clearly see some assumptions at work here. For Szasz the notions of mental illness and brain disease are mutually exclusive. A condition can be either a mental illness or a brain disease--it cannot be both; it can have either a psychopathology or a neuropathology--it cannot have both. This exclusivity springs from the fact that for Szasz mental illness is nondisease (disease in only a metaphorical sense) and psychopathology is nonpathology (pathology in only a metaphorical sense). It is a matter of logic that a condition cannot be nondisease and disease (or nonpathology and pathology) at the same time.

Michael, you make me fear for anything I may have said ever that could be misconstrued or misunderstood. I agree with very little that I thought at age 17, but I sure as hell don't want to be scrutinized for the thoughts I had then... now.

Ease up, guys. Forgiveness shouldn't demand an apology. Really now. It's time for a clean slate. This old news rattles dust that deserves to sleep.

To explain the connection in my syndrome wired mind. In the real world an apology ,to many is and admission of a wrongdoing. May I apologize now to any member or mod who feels by quoting them I am scrutinizing them unjustly . You and I as Americans have suckled at the tit of freedom of speech and various other constitutional rights . When it comes to understanding scrutiny I have no clue where the line should be drawn . I admit I come onto a message forum with the delusion that there is power in poetry . Poetry like religion can be abused. When I google the phrase chemical balance through spirituality it takes me to me . I will stop and review my post and try to figure out why they would inspire fear in any mod or member. I thought playfully pointing my finger as the officer did while busting a field party would not be the same as jumping on the hood and firing four rounds into the driver

A ten year Feud, good stuff, it's like I never exited.....lmao

Seriously though Mike, nobody cares that you have an affliction, or whatever you deem the proper term to be, this is a literary site , where most people are judged on their ability to communicate or not, and frankly you are probably considered highly with that ability.......anyhow I liked Kevin's assessment and have actually seen the very same thing in working with Autistic people, I'm surprised you didn't respond to Nickos assessment of religion, interesting stuff in comparing Christians to Muslims, and other religions, course I guess historical FACTS aren't that interesting when they tell the truth.......have a great day and stop getting so agitated .....it doesn't suit you.

  • Kevin

My girlfriend has aspergers Michael and I worked in meantal health for over 10 years. I can say aspergers is a learning impairment without that being a dirty term.

Anyway, I've said all I need to say. I really, REALLY hope you don't try and bait me into another discussion by posting links to threads from 10 years ago where I potentially said something challenging.

Necro posting old threads should be against the rules or something. :)

    Michael,
I'm just curious. What is it you hope to accomplish here? What is it you hope to get out of this thread?

  • Michael D Nalley

I am glad you asked that Larry . In the thread about how active this site used to be.( I like the song" let it go" too) The first discourse if that's what we want to call the drama when we are not blowing smoke in someone's ear wishing happy birthdays and congratulating on the weekly contest (which is fine with me) it makes the mod job easier and promotes communication between clubs. I was looking at how far we had come from the ten year old drug thread where the literary roll models where promoting the Hunter S Thompson method of inspiration over chemical spiritual balance . All I am asking for is equal protection from ad hominem and other logical fallacy . Edit I won't link to the first thread I entered at PQ . My views may have changed in the last decade , but I am not really ashamed of any thread I participated in . I have been invited to other forums . Anyway it was my poems that may have made the young member that asked me to leave a post in a thread called "Who here believes in god?"believe I would enjoy that debate It is still in the archives but I am not encouraging anyone to use the features that Janis approved. I suppose digging in a basement or attic stirs up dust :(

"What is it you hope to get out of this thread?"
I got what I wanted and that is conformation of why people are not comfortable looking back

Thank you I am said to be on the autistic spectrum by men of science and others have accused me of using religion as a crutch . No one else with an affliction has ever attempted to post here (NOT) . I am not MERCURY the messenger of the mods in the members message forum and they seem to miss most of my humor

I may have misread you Larry . if this discourse is stressing you out I thought you could remove it like they did in the old days

"Michael, you make me fear for anything I may have said ever that could be misconstrued or misunderstood. I agree with very little that I thought at age 17, but I sure as hell don't want to be scrutinized for the thoughts I had then... now.

Ease up, guys. Forgiveness shouldn't demand an apology. Really now. It's time for a clean slate. This old news rattles dust that deserves to sleep." I thought sibs analogy was brilliant though I had not thought about how young she was when she wrote it lol
"Comparison is a rhetorical or literary device in which a writer compares or contrasts two people, places, things, or ideas. ... There are numerous devices in literature that compare two different things to show the similarity between them e.g. simile, metaphor, analogy etc."
    speaking of stylistic

  • Larry Chamberlin

First, Michael, it is not stressing me. Second, even if it were I would not remove it merely for that.

It does seem as though you have latent fears of oppression surfacing. By playing out threads from before most of the current active members (including myself) were even on the main board you seem to seek reassurance we're not returning to those days.

    We're not.
