First to answer your questions Nicko. I am a Muslim as many of you already know. Shia muslim to be exact because I don't know whether or not other sects believe in the same things like I will explain them now.
So, heaven and hell. In islam there are many ''universes''. The first of these is called ''Aalam elthar'', it is the universe where spirits live before this universe. Meaning we exist before we are born. In ''Aalam elthar'' we choose who and what we will be; an angel who is good naturally but has no free will and is a slave to god until eternity, or a human being who goes to heaven and lives in indulgence but goes through a test which is our universe. Debate has gone over what else of our lives we choose in that universe. The second is ''Aalam eldunya'' our universe in which we are tested. The third is ''Aalam Albarzakh'' where we go to after we die. In it we are asked of our deeds in ''Aalam eldunya'', who we followed and our beliefs. Then comes ''Aalam alakhera'' where our deeds are weighed and we are put into heaven or hell. So, to make it all clear, heaven and hell are universes, and you know how big universes are. After going to ''Aalam Albarzakh'' and answering the question we are punished for our sins/ bad deeds. If we complete our punishment there our sins/ bad deeds are lifted. Before ''Aalam alakhera'', when our deeds are weighed, if our good deeds surpass the bad we go to heaven, if our sins/ bad deeds surpass the good we go to hell. Meaning you don't have to be Muslim to go to heaven. Our Islamic rituals/ worship routines are supposed to help us in making our good deeds surpass the bad. Some people, who's sins/ bad deeds surpass the good are put into hell to lift their sins and then they pass to heaven. That is how heaven and hell work in islam.
As for other creatures, they all go to heaven because they are not given free will, but they live on instict. Maybe not in the same form though.
Now, who would want to live for eternity? You would if you were to indulge and get all you ever wanted. Plus, in heaven there is always something new and you never get bored of something. All is up to your imagination.
About evolution and the creation of other species who went extinct and science and all. I believe in science and am a fan of scientific discoveries. I believe religeon and science should go hand in hand. Creation of one species and then it's instinction has happened simply because the world changes, and some species are not meant to continue because they would not benifit the current inhabitants and may even be dangeorous to them. Even whole villages and species of people have been wiped out because of that (and their deeds). Why did god create them in the first place? Because they were beneficial at some point in life. As for discoveries of new species, god hasn't limited his creation in any way. And as for darwinism and evolution I partly believe it. Partly because I don't believe humans came from another kinds of creatures. I haven't heard any evidence that proves this (similarities between apes and humans are not enough evidence since we share DNA with more than just apes and in large percentages too). I believe that all species created have developed and changed and that new species come from the development (evolution) of the core species that god created. But nowhere in the quran does it say that evolution is not possible. In fact the quran says we came from ''mud'' (Adam, Eve and Jesus) and then the rest of us came from fluid (sperm), so since Adam and Eve, and Jesus (because he was born from a mother only) come from ''mud''and then the rest of us come from sperm, there must be some sort of ''evolution'' there.
I have read through most of your comments and I just want to reply to Bob and add to what the rest said. I am here to answer questions, not to defend my faith and not to ''convert'' anyone. Having discussions like this stimulates thought and helps us question our own beliefs and find the truths we are willing to find. It also helps us understand our own beliefs better and make sure we are really on what we consider the right path.
