Sparklish by Yogi73
Reading this I pictured two lovers walking in the snow hand in hand basking in the glory of winters greatness, love the use of the one word lines that paused for thought and then solidified that very thought with the continuation.....this writer captured the season to a tee......sentiments like this are why most babies are conceived in the winter months....great job (10 points)

Sparklish by Yogi73
What a beautiful poem to start off the week of the Christmas holiday. The imagery is wonderful.
Since childhood snow has felt magical to me. This piece brought so many memories flooding back to my mind. I envision the moonlight shinning down on the fresh fallen snow making all of nature sparkle. Hanging on to the tree branches making each one look like it is covered in lace. (10 points)

Mary Anne has written an in depth look at a true wild heart. what a powerful and tasteful poem she has written this week!

Wild hearts don't get broken by poet on the piano
the worlds oldest profession is extensively covered within this piece, the ups and downs (pardon the pun) of the body and soul, I'm impressed that the writer wrote this from hearing a song. the inclusion of drug addition and the power it has was very profound, enjoyed reading such a write about the stark reality of our world.....awesome job (4 points)

Downtown by Poet on the Piano
I am floored by this stark self-analytic, baring-soul of a
poem. First, the setting depicted concerns reflections on the meaning and cost of an intense precipitating event, which may or may not have involved sex. The vagueness works well here, because there are other interpretations, none of which are pretty. However, the transparent persuasion on the part of the man and the self-loathing of the woman are unmistakable. Equally plain is the fact that she knows the situation: "You assured me I did nothing wrong. / How can you say that when I know what's right and you don't believe in sin or repentance or a higher power other than yourself."
The woman has stepped over a boundary, past a limit that she had long ago set. Now she dreads the consequences, but more importantly, she fears what it says about her - that this may indicate a recidivist claim on her, returning her to a place in which she was self-destructive.
Her final cry of anguish indicates she still believes in a way out: "How can I escape these roads I'm creating? These nightmares I'm tattooing on my heart?" (10 points)

EVE ' The spirit of Life' by J Nair
This poem is a perfect intertwine of false worship and the reality of entrapment! The ways that women are restricted to limited roles by subtle admiration of the very submissiveness that endangers them is laid out crystal clear, and yet, the true anguish comes through well beyond the images. The tone starts like a prayer in a temple, transforms into a reflection of lovers' sweet nothings, ending with such rage that it is impossible not to be shaken. (7 points)

How did we get here? by Cara
There is absolutely no more subtlety here than a fist to a woman's face. (It made me think of Julia Roberts getting hit in Pretty Woman: "They always go for the face.") The depth of fury is clearly laid out along with all the symptoms of domestic violence: isolation of the victim, demeaning of her intellect, the self-blame by the victim and the constant threats to her and her loved ones.
It is good that she warns in the poem not to stereotype domestic violence as occurring only in the poor.
The best part of the poem, though, is that she opens the door and leaves, showing the way, so that her readers might take heed and follow.
Truth: "[Love] is not raising a knife and [threatening] to kill, / It isn't about hate or keeping family away. / It's about balancing your partner out, / Showing them everyday just how special they are." (4 points)

How did we get here? by Cara
It's clear to see from this poem the pain involved in the writing is first hand knowledge. Yes, it can happen to anyone. This poems hits very close to home with me. Wasn't expecting to find a poem of this subject when reading poems this week with Holiday coming up. Most poems submitted are winter, holiday or joy found poetry centered around the season. This poem deserves highlight for its ability to bring forth an unfortunate epidemic; domestic violence. Agreed that it shows no preference to class, race or religion, it is simply arrogance, control and evil at its finest. Unless one has walked a mile in those shoes they will never know the boundaries of the aggressor nor the victim(s). Kudos to you for writing this. (4 points)

Split in half; Trapped in a closet by Maple Tree......
I thought I was reading something out of a university poetry book for a minute, the vocabulary within this piece was outstanding, the "lithium pillow" was explosive, especially following weary, where one lies down but the mind is still charged with thoughts running rampant, talking paint, insomnia is a B and I'm sure many writers can relate to it. This piece just exudes the loneliness of a true writer whose mind never rests.....excellent, the Maple became a mighty Oak. (7 points)

Song above the sorrow By Satish Verma

Medley of a heartache by Dixiedaisy
I've seen a few of these pieces done. It seems like it would be a difficult task to accomplish. Then to have it turn into a poem that makes sense. Dixie did just that turning her poetry lines into a thing of touching beauty. The imagery created for the minds eye is wonderful. As reading this piece it just flowed so well it was like dancing through her words. (7 points)
