Happy Boxing Day

In the Commonwealth nations Boxing Day has a generous, yet class specific tradition. It is the day the servants were given presents by their employers. Of course, this implies that the servants got nothing on Christmas itself. Why not?

What does Boxing Day mean today?

In the United States, Boxing Day, although not referred to as such, has a more commercial meaning: it is the first day everyone packs up their presents and returns them to the store for credit.

Larry, as funny as this is, it is also very true. I have made a lot of money down the years this very way....
All the best and I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas,
    Ben

    Hello guys...

I hope you all has a good CD and BD. BD for me and many others is a chance to see extended family; those that you couldn't be with on CD. Yesterday we met up with the in-laws and had a lovely meal after a walk along a local beach.

Today is for just us! A chance to chillax. Lol

Michael, ie, a chance to be with the people you didn't want to be with on Christmas day, lol!

...hmm? Yes, the out-laws as we affectionately call them! Lol

I myself have managed to avoid a good deal of those dastardly outlaws so far this Christmas. However, the new year period looks less promising....

In Aussie everybody (mainly women) seems to go mad shopping as they have boxing day sales

we also have the traditional boxing day cricket match which lasts for 5 days, this year against the West Indies who incidentally are crap at the moment

Or many head off on Boxing day for their holidays in there camper-vans or caravans

Yup. Boxing Day is when the keen and thrifty buy xmas gifts, cards and decorations for next year.

I have four favorite days for that type of discount:

    1 November,
    26 December
    15 February &
    the Monday following Easter

Those days are when the seasonal candy goes to 50% after Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's and Easter.

Isn't this also the day when rich Brits go fox hunting on horseback while heavily inebriated?

    Wouldn't that be Foxing Day?
