The site will soon decide the tie break between Shruti and Saerelune with 14 points apiece, but I'm posting early as opposed to late. Not sure when I'll get a chance to log on tomorrow.
Congratulations are in order for Ben, Poetess, Shruti, Saerelune, and all of the honorable mentions. Thank you to the 4 judges who dilligently turned in votes/comments this week, and thank you to a certain mod who filled in last minute for the 5th judge :)
The contest is off to a good start this new year.

    Cry Amongst The Daffodils
    by Ben Pickard
    Total: 24

"This poem is beyond beautiful... Such a powerful and explosive piece, written with true elegance and form.

The message reads of a somber sadness, flavored with nature tones.. just amazing!!" (10)

    -

"I can't read this without feeling immense sadness. You have penned a beautiful yet painful write. Wether it's speaking of love or friendship, it's one and the same. When we lose someone (seems a childhood friend or sibling in this case) we are often fraught with regret and questions of Why. This write pulls all of this together and is exquisitely written. Applause through tears." (10)

    -

"This piece makes my heart ache with that longing for an innocence returned. For love to be freely given, not begged for and something unknown. Your rhyming is flawless and natural and those images stick with the reader... of something that should be so bright, daffodils, but have been abandoned. There is much depth in these lines!" (4)

    No Children
    by Poetess
    Total: 24

"This poem really yanks at the heart. Anyone who has suffered abuse in any form can relate to this piece. The children who suffer usually carry the pain into adulthood. Then you wonder how someone who is suppose to love and protect you can also be the one to hurt you. Postess hits this one out of the park with it's simplicity." (10)

    -

"Poetess paints such a sad poem this week, in true creative form and style. I was so touched when I read this. the angle she took with this was very unique. I was blown away!" (7)

    -

"I keep coming back to this piece. It's so intriguing to me how you do not describe this man but the "empty vessels" representing his children. The last few lines grabbed my heart as it goes so much more deeper and personal. Your precision with words is incredible here and it makes me realize the intensity of saying "there were no children in his home." When I think of a father, I think of someone who is proud of his children, his kids give him inspiration and strength. They are to be loved. Not to be vessels." (7)

    Black Christmas
    by Shruti S
    Total: 14

"What a beautiful piece filled with a longing for a lost love. The metaphors are so unique and bring outstanding visions to the mind. You can feel that the writer has had heartbreak yet still loves this person. Christmas brings these feelings to the surface once more. You can feel the fear of love and being hurt again." (7)

    -

"How many of us feel some of these sentiments towards or around the Christmas holiday, it's not always a joyous occasion , I love the way this was formatted, with the lingering pauses for thought....Nicely done." (7)

    Lies and suicides
    by Saerelune
    Total: 14

"The raw emotion in this is unsettling and truly makes me this piece stand out to me. I see the author bleed in this, which is why it's painful to read yet truly expresses the darkness of depression. How it can lure the mind into its control. I resonated with the parts of how you tell the reader, "this is fictional" yet you can illustrate these scenes of death. Reminds me of suicidal ideation but also how the mind can make death seem painless, pretty, sweet, called upon. The repetition of "thud" and how you expressed that anxiety reached me, that restlessness and that exhaustion after going through this. Such an emotional write here." (10)

    -

"Wow! This piece really gives a life of it's own to depression and anxiety. From beginning to end it just pulled me in. Creating such visions for the mind that gives the reader chills." (4)

    What if it Rains
    by Ben Pickard
    Total: 10

"Second week on the list of nominations and it still gets my top vote, the Title itself says a lot when you read the poem, it's like all the dirt is washed away exposing us for who we really are, loved the humility of this piece and wish people could truly see themselves after such a rain, I think the world would be more compassionate towards one another." (10)

This poem has a certain ambiance that comes with reading. Perhaps it's the moon that seems to set the tone for it. Lovely write." (7)

Many thanks to the judges for their time again and the lovely comments. I am truly honoured to have won this week as there was some amazing competition, even over the busy Christmas/new year period. To be honest, I thought there were 5/6 poems that could easily have won this week.
A special mention to Shruti as well. Her poem is superb, especially considering her young age, and it's hard luck for her this time. Keep writing though, Shruti - your time will certainly come!
Congratulations to the other two winners and hms - some great pieces this week, truly.
    All the very best
