Somnolent by Ben Pickard
Somnolent by Ben Pickard
Let me preface this with my personal opinion that rhyme poems are hard to execute, this piece was graceful in its execution of its rhyme and with its content that kept me captivated from starting verse to ending verse with each being well-crafted and purposeful. I'm not a fan of 'pitiful' in the last verse of the fourth stanza, it reads a bit choppy, but other than that this is a masterpiece! (10 points)

Somnolent by Ben Pickard
What a beautiful sad piece Ben has penned. For the minds eye to see.
All the nature tied into the sadness. I was drawn into this piece from beginning to end. It is so heartfelt it left this reader in tears.
Beautiful job. (7 points)

Somnolent by Ben Pickard
The syntactic approach in this poem was extremely well written. If one were to decipher and analyze this poem stanza by stanza, phrase by phrase and word by word, they would find an exquisitely written masterpiece. This is definitely a poem for the ages, one that withstands the test of time and will likely be a favorite among many. In my opinion it is the poem that will link you to being a much favored poet. Needless to say as you can tell I am quite enamored with this poem. There are only 4 other poems written by members on this site that I feel this strongly about. Now, for the poem and trying to give proper accolades.
I adore the absolute perfection of grammar used throughout. Pauses were natural and flow was impeccable all the while separation of climatic instance was highlighted (figuratively speaking). (10 points)

Somnolent by Ben Pickard
Speechless!
It really is difficult for me to comment on this poem, because it is just that breathtaking.
Rhyme poetry is difficult to master, because the words need to flow and if choppy, it doesn't work.. this poem flows
it flows so much that it reads like a song.
what I like and adore about this poem is that to me it reads like a dark and twisted poem of old, back in the day when poetry was written to make a persons heart drop to the floor, and then some...
Its drenched with sorrow and sadness of a broken heart... I could go on and on about this poem. Just wonderful piece of poetry by Ben! (10 points)

Metanoia by Formidable Muse
The title of this piece sets the stage for this piece, it's an amazing journey that the author takes us on dictating the great distance (physically and mentally) traveled. It's a heart-warming piece that is written well and drips of hope! (7 points)

Metanoia by Formidable Muse
instead of being
knocked down,
she learned to dance
to the rhythm of the
waves as they crash
against the shore,
^this is the stuff that has made Sade one of the greatest and smoothest entertainers of all time, reminds me of "there's a Quiet Storm and it never felt like this before".....self reflection poems are great because they help us get in touch with ourselves, and even better they help us heal and relate to one another, I've a pension that you've healed many and related to many with this....Thank you, the pleasure was mine.......terrific. To a friend by Koan
This writer is synonymous with eloquent writes. Normally, this writers poems are longer and fanciful of poetic metaphors and filled with love. I found this poem to have a perfect balance of both. A wonderfully written poem paying respects to friendship. It was such a pleasure to read this poem. The gracious and thankful nature of this poem of living a life with the best of friends really touches the heart. (7 points)

The Final Slide (Alouette) by Mr Darcy
I loved this form and what Mr Darcy had to say in it.
The form turned out perfectly. How the poet feels when things don't turn out the way he wants them to. (4 points)

A day to Remember by Mr. Darcy
Epic, the kind of prose you would find in the greatest works of some early American poet.....held me prisoner to the very end, and that was well worth waiting for, the ending format was , let's shall we say, you knocked it dead......Great job. (4 points)

Rose upon Rose by Satish Verma
Mechanical imitation
of aloneness for a ripe death
it is nostalgia of past history.
Deep in thoughts I run
for my green childhood.
A strange metastasis
from remote guilts
Totally in love with this metaphoric ditty, far too many good phrases to list without posting the entire poem, but the above was the anchor of a strong vessel that sailed with brightness. This touched me in a way that poetry hasn't touched me since "The Raven", and you'd have to really know me to understand why, "Green childhood", but this isn't about me, it's about this awesome writer.....wow. Schizophrenias Children by Maple tree
Wow what a saddening accurate write to this terrible affliction. This poem actually reminds me of a song by Metallica called Welcome home (sanitarium). One particular part of this poem brings to light the truths of this affliction.
" for those who chewed
sanity to shreds,
because the voices told them to do so."
^Wow, I am just absolutely haunted by images of patients/victims being strapped down in an asylum and chewing through the straps trying to free themselves from the paranoia as well. There is a nearby "mental institution" that in the 60's and 70's treated schizophrenia, post partum depression and other similar disorders with shock therapy. This poem brings to light the struggle even now to diagnose and dispense illnesses correctly. Very intense write and as always you never fail to please the readers appetite for your words no matter the subject or genre. (4 points)
