Trump

No...It's just my very poor understanding of American politics. Some things I just cannot get my head around you know....like...Larry said Trump's been declared bankrupt 4 times and yet he's still worth millions...how is that? Bob said he's avoided draft 4 times also and yet he's giving it big licks for his plans for your servicemen...how does that work? How does he have ANY supporters but he does so...is HE pissing in the right pockets or are the people backing him pissing in HIS pocket?? Yeah...totally confused...

    EDIT

I think we need to copy/paste our 'findings' into Yaki's SWOT thread :)

Hellon, I think you grasp American politics better than a lot of Americans do... lol.

So interesting that it's brought up that the evangelical Christians are supporting Trump. Yesterday at church, part of our topic was going over the highest divorce rate in America, and it's in the Bible belt. Christians, more and more, are divorcing at higher rates than non Christians, and I personally think a lot has to do with the fact that people think since they believe in Jesus, life will be easy (not true). Also, believing in and following are two very different things. I do not know any Jesus followers personally who are supporting Trump. That fact makes me very happy.

I feel bad for Monica Lewinsky. Can you imagine making a mistake that many years ago and being forever defined for it?

The struggle I have is that I don't think Hillary stayed with Bill out of love and forgiveness, rather political reasons. That makes me sad... but also not my circus, not my monkeys. I wouldn't vote for her regardless, but outsider looking in, it looks that way and wouldn't that be such a miserable way to live as a human? Spending your life in politics and that literally dictating your happiness (or lack thereof)? This is true for all lifelong politicians I suppose, it's just very sad. There is so much more to life than that.

What seems terribly ironic to me is the fact that politicians are there to represent us, and yet very few (if any) are representative of a typical person. They are all selfish, greedy, self-serving and in it for number one - themselves. Most of them just want to go down in history.....one way or the other, it seems.
Wouldn't it be nice if - for once - when a politician stood up and said "I actually care and want to do things to help" we actually believed them?

    Anyway.....

Those people don't make it past the first few months leading up to the caucus. :(

Britt - you have it exactly. Unless you are all the things a politician should never be, you don't stand a chance....

I agree that Hillary's reasons for staying with Bill are probably less than honorable. It's a shame, really, that leaving him would be worse for her political career. It's all such a mess.

First of all, don't feel so bad for Lewinski: 1 - she was no spring chicken, just young; 2 - why would a person with no ulterior motives deliberately save a dress with the president's semen on it unless she were planning at least blackmail?

Second, regardless of Hillary's motives for staying with Bill (most likely political) she set out and forged her own career immediately. If you think it's easy to win a Senate seat ask 33 candidates every two years who spend millions just to lose. If I had a choice of kicking out from my advisors the most successful president (morals aside) in the past several decades or swallowing pride & keeping him for his advice, the choice would be a lot easier to make than if he was a schmuck without a clue.

As for intelligence, people make a big deal out of Bill Clinton being a Rhodes Scholar, but we should also understand that Hillary Clinton graduated from Yale Law School with honors.

She is literally defined for one season/moment/bad decision in life. No amount of growth or change will ever change how society as a whole views her. That breaks my heart for her, whether she had malicious intention or not. People can change, yet no one will see or accept any change from her. She's always just the gal that ...yknow.

It's more about relationships to me than money. You should watch her on Ted Talk.

I don't know , I think Hillary is loyal, I really do, think about all the scrutiny she has been under during this election, and trust me when I tell you, she could start throwing people under the bus left and right, these allegations against her are ridiculous, to hold her SOLELY responsible for what happened in Benghazi is about as absurd as a trump presidency.....she takes orders, as secretary of state she takes orders from some congressional committees, the pentagon, the vice president and the president. She has yet to mention any of them in dealing with all these allegations....She has always loved her husband, has always stayed by his side regardless, his cheating just didn't happen in the whitehouse, he did it when he was the governor of arkansas as well......Many of the people in my motorcycle club can't stand her, and don't want to vote for her, but when I ask all of them, "would you want her as a club member", they all say, hell yes, she's loyal as hell........

I just don't understand why people are voting for hillary over Bernie, whats her appeal?

  • Bob Shank

Because Bernie's platforms are unrealistic, i mean they sound good, but in the real world, they would collapse our economy and water down the educational system....With Hillary you get two for one, Bill despite whether you like him or not had a prosperous running country during his terms.....Sanders has been in congress for close to 30 years and hasn't accomplished anything significant, yet he wants to reform congress, but did nothing about it while he was part of the problem......

I can't believe what I just read... I think this is the first time I have ever seen a discussion based on politics that has been so civilized. Good job guys!

Personally I'm not a fan of Trump, lots of talk with very little substance - not that politicians are known for substance.

I think Bernie's ideas are too far out there, they work in a utopia but this is the real world.

Clinton just scares the crap out of me. As someone that works in IT, what she did with the private servers really strikes a chord (cord? brain fart here) with me. More dangerous than people realize.

Cruz I don't know enough about - I best get educated on him.

I liked Carson, but apparently someone with common sense doesn't belong in the political world. Then, he went and sold his soul to the Donald.....
