Just curious if the new craze has found its way into your lives?

So.... My name is Kay and I am a pokemon addict.
I started yesterday just to find out the hype and instantly fell in love again. I use to play with my step son when he was little, (he died in a car accident at age 16, 8 years ago) we had trading cards and console games and everything they sold pokemon wise. He was ecstatic when I got him pokemon stadium. So instantly after downloading and starting up.... with charizard as my first, I walk outside and there's a jiggly puff on my porch. (It must be a sign from my son because he designated jiggly puff to me and always drew them for me. Charizard was his favorite. Sooooo my kids have been chauffeuring me around today and I caught a pikachu. I have evolved 5 different pokemon. Such a fun game, but hubby didn't approve when I found a geodude in the bedroom. He just don't get it. Lol

I've been hooked since 10 July. 4th level, hatching eggs, 1/2 way to level 5 where I can fight in the gyms. Kat & Jessica got me addicted.
Last night Jessica, her friend Melody & I walked Rowdy through the park. What is normally a half our trip wound up taking an hour and a half.

Cop: describe who you are looking for, ma'am.
Lady: he's short, active, yellow and cute
Cop: this had better not be a Pokemon
Lady: he attacks with thunder bolts from his tail
Cop: alright, hands behind your back

I was at the Zoo yesterday with my youngest step daughter and my grandson.

Many of the zoo keepers were running around the zoo trying to catch the pokemon thingys... I heard one lady worker say "Let me clean up this pile of poo and then Ill find the location I need"... I rolled my eyes for a moment.

I am happy people are having fun with this game, but here I am trying to teach my 8 yr old that there is more to life and fun than a tablet- So we go to the Zoo... and the workers have their phones attached to their hips :-(

Ohh Im glad folks are having fun with it... just not something I would do...

Andrea I totally understand about employees and getting out off of devices. I understand but am failing miserably.

Yaki. Why u judging? U no play? Bwaaaahghha

  • Britt

I will say I've seen a lot of people out getting more exercise than they typically do, and keeping their kids active, so that's a plus!

I'm avoiding it. I have work I need to ignore by being on PnQ.

  • Larry Chamberlin

    Pros

+ My lunches now consist of exercising instead of eating
+ My kids & I have much more quality time
+ Rowdy gets several walks a day instead of just two
+ I'm logging more distance with PG (trying to hatch eggs) than my wife with her Microsoft Band 2
+ I'm sleeping deeper (worn out)

    Cons

    - Yaki is judging me

    I can deal with that

  • Britt

Seriously someone literally ran into me in the park on my lunch break because apparently there was something near where I was and they didn't see me... lol.

  • Yakari Gabriel

I'm generally a very bitter person..
but i also think this Pokemon go only illustrates a bigger issue to me..

I will write about it indepth when I feel better about myself lol..

    ya'll gon learn

  • Daisy if you do

Yes I am with the pros of this. Definitely getting more exercise, had two eggs to hatch. Plus my youngest is enjoying driving time chauffeuring me around. My dog definitely is getting more exercise, normally 3 walks a day. Now like 8. Definitely spending more time with kids, some not even my own. Thinking of organizing a poke walk for younger kids so they can join in.

Only downside is gas from living out in mid of nowhere and having to drive to a pokestops and gyms.

    Ahhhh...

my boyfriend has been trying to convince me to play it

    But but ...

    Seriously, I'm a partypooper. I rather sleep ... <<-- That's fun.
My mind has a GPS that locates dreams and sends me off to do all kind of activities while I sleep. I get to meet virtual people. -.-

Though, I used to watched Pokemon and I used to play the game boy but I am not into Pokemon Go. I kind of consider it a waste of time. But it is most likely that as soon as I start playing it, the gamer in me will resurrect from the dead, and it will try to catch them all pokemons.

Aside from that, I heard that people need to check their privacy settings for their gmail, as Pokemon Go app can have access to your information. Meaning that the app doesn't just have access to public information but also to pictures Etc. unless the app's programmers already fixed that. I haven't done proper research on that.

Yaki, I know! I remember when I was little, watching the movie, and absolutely lost it when both Pikachu's were slapping each other in the face. I went to bed that night sad and remember asking my mom why Pokemon aren't real.

I'm pretty sure I would be slightly obsessed if I had the right type of phone for this app. (but I have upgraded from a flip phone to a phone with a keyboard that slides out)

In fact my friend and I were walking around BOTH of our town's malls today and there were teenagers EVERYWHERE with their phones out and running around, saying they have to catch "this" or "that"... we just stared in awe.

Just to let y'all know, I proudly am wearing a Pokemon lanyard with all my most special keys on it now ;)

    Nah britt,

i have never liked games, not of any type
it has never been my thing..
i tried candy crush for a little time and gave it up so fast...

i tried a lot, i just never liked any...

Anyone remembers Digimon?? i think it came after Pokemon..man that cartoon made me cry so so hard..
    i can't even handle ...

Yes, of course I remember Digimon! I just asked my brother about it the other day and he said I used to be obsessed with watching it (trust me, that theme song is now getting stuck in my head).

    Oh and guess what?

I dont own a phone but if my boyfriend walks out one more time because of a scyther / Snorlax / or *anything else* ima scream

Cool part - where we are at my roommate goes to downtown at midnight by herself (i think shes nuts but downtown in cary is still super rich i guess?) but she goes there and last time..

she met 24 other people playing...

    24...

24 kids at night are running around addicted to this thing.

Shes never met less then 10
She has pokemon dates with friends...

    Like..

Its a thing. Pokemon trainers are real..

Things that businesses are doing here is they are putting out incense (i believe in increases the spawn of rarer pokemon) to get people to hang out at their store. Bars are saying things like 'If you put an incense here we will buy you a beer'

Businesses are making money off this.

Something on the negative it has also become a thing that people will put incense at a gym so people go there. Once they are there they rob them. kids go there with the idea they will be doing something fun and people pull out knives on them.

The world is changing to fast for me i feel..

    And im a tech nut.

    *Sigh*

"The world is changing to fast for me..."

Bookie, I know what you mean. It can be scary. >.< everyone playing Pokemon Go must be on the look out but not just for pokemons but for their safety.

Yaki, I remember Digimon. I used to watch it also. My memory isn't that great. i think I need to watch them again to refresh my memory but Pokemon and Digimon used to make me cry.

Ohh did anyone played or remember the Tazzos hidden in the bags of chips?

  • Liz

^ there was an ad put up recently in town for trainers to meet Tuesday-Friday and they get a discount for showing their profiles or something. Lol

I've always been a big fan of Pokemon.

A couple of years ago Google Maps launched something similar for a few days. Except you had to search all over the world (on the map) for Pokemon. The rare ones were somewhere in the Amazon. I never did find those, but I did at every chance I could lol. They also had a Pacman feature for a while.

Anyway, I gave into the hype. I was more interested in where the pokestops were. Cemeteries seem to be a hot spot for them. lol

I don't think I'm addicted as much as others. But we did drive around looking for pikachu, but he disappeared. Probably not a good idea to drive around looking for them in our big white work van with no back windows. It's a little suspicious lol

Are times really changing all that much though? Another fad, that's all it is. It's no wonder the fads are becoming increasingly addictive. There's an entire field of work focused on finding how to make a product addictive and more profitable, right? I would assume. At least this one is getting people outdoors and exercising, even if I almost hit one with my car yesterday when they crossed the street on my green light without looking up from their phone. Can we call them Pokey heads?

I didn't play or watch Pokemon growing up and still don't quite understand what it/he is or what anyone's talking about. I take pride in the few occasions where I find myself out of touch with what's popular. I'll continue to be slightly annoyed until this particular popular thing loses its novelty to everyone.

I could also start playing Pokemon Go and become addicted myself... but I'm way too busy right now to have time for more mindless fun than my current clash of clans addiction.

It is another fad but look at japanese society.. They believe that computers are... well.. Completely outdated. Everything on your phone.

If you look at games anything thats not on the phone has *tanked* over there. (being an "old school" pc gamer this sucks) (also odd because they are the ones who make big money doing a lot of the pc e-sports games)

My brother thinks this is some sort of crazy conspiracy to change us more into how their society is (because you can more more money off that gaming platform then a flat payment, people tend to buy a lot of the buyables and they make so much more money its ugly)

Now i dont believe that but.. I wouldnt be surprised if phone gaming takes a big step up in western society which personally im not a fan of. I have never been a fan of really casual games that could get horridly addicting, ive always been a fan of unforgiving games and JRPGs i dislike our western RPG (where things are more like controlling one character and real time based, I enjoy turn based chess like placement... Like Fire Emblem - a *tactics game* or like final fantasy 10.. Last decent FF game imo)

    Anyways back onto topic.

Its gone crazy and around here people are judging other people by the color of their team. (Yellow team is getting hit hard - most of the red team calls them retards, blue team is kinda like Cool idc but red around here are stuck up bratts, *sigh NC State why do you do this to us)

    either way..

Right now my life is to hectic to enjoy this at all...
Researching my own stuff and planning for the future and doctors/surgeons and moving & my barfday is all coming up. To muc h stuff.. Plus school

I cant get addicted to this.

not like i could. No phone x3

    EDIT:

Also wow 2 people walked off a cliff while playing it??

I gave in to Pokemon go. Now on level 8. Have played it just three days but spread through out two weeks or so.

    Jane:
"I'm way too busy right now to have time for more mindless fun than my current clash of clans addiction."

^^ I personally prefer clash of clans than Pokemon ( I just started it also) . Except that playing Pokemon while walking and talking and seeing the excitement of my bf and those around ( for having found a new Pokemon) is surprisingly ... Refreshing.

My dog is ecstatic going to so many new parks.

  • Daisy if you do

Level 17 now here. No money spent, unless you count gas going places but I have teamed up with other players nearby and we take turns driving to nearby places. Keep in mind when I say driving I am not talking about driving while playing. I live in the country so someone plays while another drives to stops. I have met some new people and having fun. My dog has lost 2 pounds. Vet is happy. She was a bit overweight. I refuse to weigh myself yet.

  • Everlasting

    "Level 13, haven't spent a penny.
My dog is ecstatic going to so many new parks"

    - yeah, I haven't spent a penny either. The only drawback of the game is that it consumes my phone's battery pretty fast. However, to be actually fair, I think the problem would be my phone rather than the game - as my phone needs a new upgrade.

Your dog must feel like in Heaven.

"Level 17 now here. No money spent, unless you count gas going places but I have teamed up with other players nearby and we take turns driving to nearby places"

^^^ That's a good idea. What is the highest CP that your pokemon have?

My son has transformed from a couch potato to a manic walking machine. What's worse is he's using my phone, so I'm without one for most of the day and night too. Still, it's nice to see him and others getting out and discovering places of interest whilst getting fit. Technology at its best!

I gotta go, my phone is needed!! Lol

His sister is insane.. She joined up with the city council and she knows a lot of the police.. You can find her in the police car playing pokemon go with most of them.

I still don't get this. I was in the park the other day with my niece and nephew and a guy was playing this and left his daughter (I presume) in the swing whilst he went and chased a Pokemon shouting hold on, daddy needs to get this. I was shocked!!
