Last years resolution was to say Yes more often.

(didn't quite manage it, although did experience more this year, new job for one)

I once set my self a resolution of only writing left handed. (I am right handed) lasted about three months and was beginning to write quite fluently.

This year I haven't set any.

Maybe spend less time painting, eats away at my evenings.

YOU are perfect in my eyes, Noura <3

Darren, that's quite an impressive feat! Wow. I'm inspired to teach myself to write left handed now. My mom is ambidextrous too.

-Jane, so that could be your new hobby.

Haha, I have so many things on my list that I would like to learn, I guess I better pick one. Writing left handed would be great to impress people and if my right hand ever becomes useless, but I am leaning toward becoming fluent in Spanish or starting to learn sign language. I think either of these things could be useful to myself and others as a social worker.

  • Everlasting

If you need help with learning Spanish, I can help.

I would also like to learn sign language and Braille but I may need to postpone that for a few years.

What else do you have on your list?

Hellon, how many languages do you speak?

  • Hellon

I couldn't claim to speak any language fluently (apart from English) but I know some French, Indonesian and Korean. I'm trying to learn more Korean but, as the alphabet is in characters rather than letters, I'm finding it quite challenging to read the language so I depend on listening and repeating at the moment.

With or without a plan it's working

  • Everlasting

Oh Hellon, I don't mean to sound like I'm interrogating but how come you want to learn all those languages? Is it just for fun or is there a background story behind each particular language?

And also speaking of Korean, do you watch Korean Drama?

    ----

Kevin, so you are spontaneous... I've been realizing that whenever I don't plan things, things work for the better for myself. In your opinion, what would you say are some of the pros of being spontaneous?

  • Hellon

I'm not studying them Luce...I can just speak a bit because I've visited these countries several times. I just don't think it's right to expect people to speak my language when I'm visiting their country so I try to make an effort to speak a little of theirs. What I meant was I really should make more of an effort to become more fluent in at least one of them.

I do watch Korean dramas when I'm over there. I have no idea what they're talking about so I make up my own story lines...it's fun :)

If you are interested there's a website where you can learn vocabulary. I'm not sure if they have the languages that you want to practice though but it doesn't hurt to take a look at it. It's for free.

    https://www.duolingo.com

Have you ever heard of this Korean drama? It's called Full House. It's comedy and romance. It's probably slightly corny but I really liked that one. I used to read manga and watch Korean dramas with the subtitles on, it helped me learn English (at least the written portion).

Back then, it was a fun way to learn.

I also like your reason for trying to become fluent in those languages.

  • Hellon

Thanks Luce...I'll have a look at this site.

The Korean Dramas..I'm not really sure what they're called..I view them in Korea so there is no need for subtitles...there is one that's my favourite...and I stress that I have no idea what they're talking about but they all wear really funny hats? Very high hats??

I'm very impressed with the members of this site (yourself included) who do not have English as a first language and can still come up with poetry that leaves me at the starting post :) This is why I would like to push myself to be fluent in at least one that I speak slightly for now.

Darren...sorry I missed your original post...as a left hander myself I thought...good on you for trying for 3 months but...you gave it up man..why? my dad..who was naturally right handed could write his name with both hands at the same time..eg I think your name is Darren Conner?
His left hand would write Darren while his right was writing Conner both names written at the same time...weird eh?

I've tried to master this for years but...fail! fail! fail!

Must've been memorized muscle movements. Still, that's impressive! Hard enough to rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time haha.

  • Darren

That is impressive, I stopped because I simply forgot. I had a week off work and forgot all about the left hand malarkey.

  • Hellon

Yes..he impressed the hell out of me anyway :)

I always wondered if it had to do with how some people can very easily swap from driving on the right to left hand side of the road with no effort whatsoever not that he ever did but..something connecting this ? Their brain adjusts at the flick of a switch it would seem...I'm not sure...just a thought??

    You might be onto something!

Darren, isn't it funny how that happens? I'm an expert at starting up routines that last for a few weeks and then one day forgetting and *poof* routine broken. This happens almost every time I try to exercise or diet.
