Posting these anonymously and if you would like to vote on which one you like the most, you are welcome to do so and message me with that. If we don't have enough votes or those interested then I may not go forward with that. Whatever you guys want to do. Thank you to the poets who participated.

    #1: "Oh look at me"

"Oh look at me, oh look at me,
don't pretend you don't see me...
Oh look at me, oh look at me,
don't pretend you don't see me...
    -
All these years, out on the streets
has done a number on my physique.
So as you walk on past ignoring me,
know I am not unlike "Oh Christmas Tree..."
    -
Oh look at me, oh look at me,
I was once young and successful...
Oh look at me, oh look at me,
I too, had it all, just like you...
    -
My eyes had shone so brightly,
my step had been just lightly.
But drink and drug has dragged me down,
my arms like boughs, weighted down.
Not with tinsel and baubles abound,
just that crack pipe with its hissing sound...
    -
So as you pass me on the street,
    take pause,
    thank your God
    you aren't like thee..."

To the tune "Oh Christmas Tree"

    "DEAR SANTA,

I've heard a lot about your generous works during Christmas celebrations, especially to children :-)

But are you only for Christmas? Are you only for children? Because everyone needs love and peace and not just children. We need love and peace everyday not just on Christmas season. I would be so grateful if you would remain with us everyday after Christmas, sharing your gift of happiness and love. The world desperately needs your gifts everyday; to heal the daily pains of disappointment, hate, misunderstanding, wars, terrorism, crashing hopes, failures etc.

If not for anybody's sake, consider the plight of the windows, orphans, and other victims of wars and deadly diseases. We need you... Everyday!

The world cannot grow without happiness, love and peace and these are some of the essence of Christmas celebrations. Please, I want you to stay back and give us, both children and adult, the gifts Christ has given you to bring to us: LOVE, HAPPINESS AND PEACE. With these gifts, our New Year will be a prosperous one.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to your reply as we welcome the year 2017.

    Yours faithfully,
    Secret Admirer."

    #3: "A sprout's wish" (Belgium Sonnet)

"I'm sorry if my tears stain as I write,
Or if my scratchy scrawl's illegible.
    Oh, why don't children even take a bite;
To them I am the grossest vegetable.
I understand that wishes are just that,
But here I am, one brussel reaching out.
    Please make me edible to even brats;
Respectfully I wait with doubtful pout.
On christmas day dear Santa answered me:
A card stuck to a package with a bow.
    It said, "spread bogie paste after you steam;
All kids love eating bogies, don't you know!"
A brussel's wish of being eaten up
Revealed in Santa's pouch of bogie puss."

    #4: "C.'s Angel Song"

"As we sat down to listen to you
play "The Angels Song" I remember...

    bursting into tears before
your fingers even reached the keys
and the feeling of frigid air
rushing in with all the windows closed.

It was a holiday with everyone
    we loved, but everyone knew
    that something was off.

We sat down to listen to her
play "The Angels Song" but I

was the one sitting next to you
with my hand hidden in yours
and my head on your shoulder
as we sipped on homemade ginger tea...

you didn't know it then, but
this would be your last holiday with us
because soon the angels would come
    for you.

We sat down, to listen as someone
    played "The Angels Song"

little did we know it was for you
and you alone, all along. But even still
that's the only Christmas I ever
    want to remember, fully, completely

and whole heartedly. Needless to say,
when we played it again this year
    something about "The Angels Song"
    was just so wrong."

    "My dear old Santa...

    I hope you are well,
    I can feel the rumbling
    Christmas quell!

    I hope you've slept
    a restful year,
    (Oh and whisper "hello"
    in Rudolf's ear).

    I'm writing to let
    you know,
    Your sleigh is ready to
    fight the snow.

    I've cleaned her up,
    and made her shine.
    My! she looks damn
    fine.

    So pick her up
    sometime today,
    Free of charge
    no need to pay
    (just a token of appreciation)
to send you on your merry way.

    Little ones that have
    dreamed all year
    you answer their call
    with your heart so
    dear.

    Anyway...my friend
    all the best
    and bid you a
    well earned new year
    rest....."

    "Dear Santa,

This year I have been good
    like you said I should
I went out of my way
    to help people each day
but one thing I will ask for
and I promise I'd never ask for more
I want you to bring peace to everyone
    before the year has gone,
bring a smile to everyone's face,
for one day haters will forget 'race'
    we'll be without war too
come on Santa I'll ask nothing else from you.
Stop all the hunger and thirst as well
put food on their tables, clean water in their wells
don't make me beg on my knees
santa bit do this me thing for me, please."

    #7: "Christmas Dinner is a Two-Step Dish"

"Arose at seven to begin the feast
    it's a semi-annual fete from scratch
bring out breads, the veggies and then the beast
turn on music with energy to match:
Brenda's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
that gets preparations into high gear
open wine, rustle up turkey gravy
melt spice loaded butter for stuffing cheer.
Get sentimental feelings when you dance
to Miss Lee's new old fashioned way to cook
while this happy holiday gives the chance
to give mushrooms, yams and pies a new look.
Chef calls "Let's be Jolly" when Brenda sings
for that's the time when Christmas spirit rings."

    #8 "A Christmas wish"

"We wish you a merry Christmas
Wish you a Christmas, a merry we
You merry, we Christmas, a wish
A Christmas wish: You, me - merry
Merry Christmas you, me, a wish
Christmas, you, me, a merry wish"

    #9:

    "This year I
    have been
    naughty and
    nice, although
    I am past that
    youthful stage
    where I pray
    that you drink
    the milk left by
    the chimney.

    It's true I'm fully
    grown but I still
    believe that even
    impossible things
    can come true,

    So, this is my list
    I hope you check
    it once not twice. In
    simple terms I want,

    Families to be happy
    singing and laughing
    all night long, broken
    relationships to mend,
    one redo button for all
    lastly I want love to
    flourish inside my heart
    once again.

    Maybe you'll read it
    with a smile, shrug
    and make it done, if
    not I still have next
    year to get it right."

    COMMENTS:

    Poem#1: "Oh look at me"

"Not only has this writer turned a well know Christmas carol into a poem; it is also a poignant one. This poem highlights the fact that you can't judge a book by its cover, and this cover, a homeless person who has been a victim of drink and drugs. I found myself singing this and allowing the new words to penetrate, and they did!"

Poem #5: "My dear old Santa..."

"A charming poem with a pleasant rhyme. An absolute joy to read. The holiday is over now, but I was brought right back to the Christmas spirit."

    - - - -

"I like this angle on the traditional Christmas story. Here we have a mechanic - probably an elf? This mechanically minded elf is an unsung hero of Christmas; someone from behind the scenes as it were. Imagine Santa setting off on his biggest day of the year and the sleigh failing before the job was done - it would be terrible, right! Well, this elf in the true spirit of Christmas not only makes sure the sleigh is fit for the night ahead, he wavers the fee. No charge for making 'little ones' dreams come true. Happy New year - that's the time for a wee rest!"

    Poem #4: "C.'s Angel Song"

"Although I don't know 'Angel's song' it does not matter. What I do know is the loss of someone dear. The memories that come back when you least expect it. This writer lays there feeling down and as raw as they are they are beautiful. Beautiful in the way this lost person was loved and still is, despite all the painful memories and despite 'Angel's song' never sounding the same."

    - - - -

"It pains me that the holidays bring sorrowful memories for some people. This poem touched my heart and made me want to hug the poet."

    Poem #9:

"I like the approach this poem takes: An adult writing a list for Santa *just in case* - it's wistful and sweet."
