Colloquially it's a worm, the problem is with the first name.

Many people know that household dust contains dead skin, animal fur, pollen, decomposed insects, and dirt from outside. However, it turns out that arsenic and lead also figure into the mix at higher levels than you might expect: high enough to pose a concern for small children who play on the floor.*

Question: what banned product also is a significant component of household dust decades after it was removed from production?

[Do not look at this source until after you guess: *(arsenic: 30% from natural sources, volcanoes principally; [70%] from mining, smelting, burning fossil fuels and other industrial processes. Even in relatively low concentrations, arsenic is not without risk, especially to small children who play on the floor and routinely transfer things from their hands to their mouths. The same is true for lead, which comes less from wall paint — the source most people would expect — than from auto exhaust, smelting and soil deposits.) There were issues over fluoride a while back. That hasn't been banned though has it?

  • silvershoes
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

    Isn't fluoride good for teeth?
(Any parks and recs fans here? Season 6, episode 8. It's called "fluoride.")

Larry, I read the answer accidentally. So I'm out.

This question may be a bit too much. The answer is DDT
Rachel Carlson wrote Silent Spring about it in 1962 & the reception to her book forced the banning of DDT & other pesticides. DDT is supposed to have a half-life of 2-15 years, but it remains prevalent 45 years after it was banned in 1972.
