Yeah, my guess would be 99.99999998% haha

Yes Larry 99% although it might be closer to 99.9 as Jane said but officially 99

    Next ...

You go, Jane, I agree you were closer

    Ha. Who knows! Not me.

Okay, what animal kills the most humans per year?

  • Hellon replied to silvershoes

Animal? Are humans included in this question? I was watching a show today (I'm in Korea so it's a programme I don't get in Australia) and their stats say that 11,127 people died in USA as a result of gunshot wounds last year..that's only USA not world wide so if humans are considered animals then I'd vote for them. Then there's the mosquito, nasty little critter that kills lots of people but...an insect I guess so maybe that's not correct either???

  • Nicko replied to silvershoes

I was thinking hippopotamus ... ?? I know they kill a fair few people in Affrica each year ...

Humans are the worst animals on earth as Hellon said

  • silvershoes

Mosquito is correct. I was not including humans, though humans are indeed high on the list, killing at least half a million other humans annually.
Disease carrying mosquitos kill roughly 750,000 - 1,000,000 people annually.
If we do not include insects or humans, then snakes win by being responsible for at least 50,000+ human deaths annually.
Close to 3,000 people die because of hippopotamuses every year. Not a number to laugh at as they rank within the top ten most deadly animals in many lists. As do dogs and crocodiles.

I was going to guess at snake but I thought it was just my fear of them that made me think that way...I really am terrified of them.

Which prime time TV show had the first scene of a couple in bed together?

  • silvershoes replied to Hellon
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

I remember now that you are scared of snakes and have had bad experiences with them.

My guess in regard to your question is that it happened in a movie for the first time in the 1950s. No idea what movie though. I'm imagining a black & white film.

  • Nicko replied to silvershoes
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

Mmmm a mosquito is not an animal ... ha

Edit i am wrong ........ they are... pesky little blighters

  • silvershoes replied to Nicko
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

That's an interesting debate. One could argue that there are two kinds of organisms: plants and animals.

My gut feeling is also that mosquitoes are not animals in the way that I think of animals. But I googled it and multiple sources listed mosquitos, so I rolled with it ;)

  • Larry Chamberlin

I vote with animal. They are not chordata, but neither are sponges and corral, also animals.

    As to the question: Bewitched?

  • Hellon

It wasn't a movie when it first screened but it started out in black and white.

    It is not Bewitched.

I'm travelling back to Australia today .so forgive me if I take a while to reply to the next guess.

is it an English or American show ? animation as in the show introduction ?

  • Hellon replied to Nicko

Originated in America but I'm pretty sure everyone will be familiar with it. Animation as in the whole show.

    Flintstones!

You are correct Larry...Well done! Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV sometime between 1960-66.

Ohh that's so cute! I had no idea. Also, I got it in my head you said movie for some reason. Oops. You clearly wrote TV show.

    Larry, your turn.

Maybe Larry is in La La Land? So I can give another question ok? (I didn't rate La La Land too highly BTW..thoughts from others please?)

    QUESTION

Which bird's eye is bigger than its brain?

    Oops read it wrong

  • silvershoes

I know this one. Ostrich. I've heard it many times, though I've never bothered to fact check it.

  • Hellon replied to silvershoes

Ostrich is correct Jane. Seems Larry is still in La La Land so maybe you can post the next question.

  • silvershoes
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

Hellon, it's funny you happened to ask that specific question. It's one of those random things I've known for ages. I also know another funny fact about ostriches, which I'll turn into a trivia question:

What is the max speed an ostrich can run? I'll accept mph or km/h.

  • Larry Chamberlin
7 years ago, updated 7 years ago

When you said animation it hit me.

    Ostriches? Is it 30 mph?

[I'll go to La La Land gladly - my daughter Lauren lives there now]

  • Hellon replied to Larry Chamberlin

I'd say faster than 30mph. I'm basing this off watching how fast an emu can run (there's an emu farm close to me) and they can go like the clappers so....maybe 50?

Have you seen the movie Larry? Has anyone seen it?

  • hiraeth replied to Hellon

I haven't watched La La Land yet.

I'm just going to throw out a guess of 55km/h?

But I really just came here to ask, emu farm? Whaaaaat.

  • Hellon replied to hiraeth

Emus are big business here in Australia and there are farms doted across the country. Here's a link to some of the things they produce.

    http://www.emufarm.iinet.net.au/products.htm

I've been using emu oil for years, it's lovely stuff. I sent some over to one of our members from USA a few years ago and she thought it was great.

  • Larry Chamberlin

Emus weee a big fad here in Texas some years back. Unfortunately the meat never became popular and Emu ranchers went broke. They turned their flocks loose & sherrifs in three counties had to round them up. For awhile Fudruckers offered emu burgers. Interestingly, I've had emu but only in Australia.

Hellon, I have seen LaLaLand. I liked the movie and even felt that Emma Stone deserved the oscar. On the other hand I felt Andrew Garfield was robbed by Casey Afflect - his role in Hacksaw Ridge was amazing!

  • Hellon replied to Larry Chamberlin

I've never had emu before Larry. It's not something that's available in your average supermarket. I think it could be on some fancy restaurant's menu for a price...I imagine it would be an expensive dish? I have tried kangaroo a few times, it is available in most of the supermarkets, doesn't smell very good when raw but it tastes delicious when cooked properly.

I haven't seen Hacksaw Ridge so I can't comment. I just thought the story to La La Land was weak but, perhaps I'm just hard to please :)

Looks like you all need a new question...

How many countries are neutral (to war)?
NOT including EU countries, as the EU now operates under a joint foreign policy.

  • silvershoes

I'll give it to Hellon, who was closest.

The ostrich "is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs and the ability to run at maximum speeds of about 70 km/h (45 mph), the top land speed of any bird." -internet
