Poet of the Fortnight #7: Darren (August 18 - September 1)

    Thanks Frank

I couldn't possibly speak for everybody but obviously most art is based on ability, the outcome in my opinion is based on mood. I suppose your character could lead you up certain paths. If you improved as a person and had a less negative outlook on the world would that be reflected in your art?

    Probably.

I agree with you. I think you are right even though there are more corners in the question to cover that I thought you would elaborate.

Thank you so much for responding.

Darren, I consider what you did for the elderly couple to be a tremendous kindness, not something small at all.

Question #5: Do you have any superstitions? Anything from thinking black cats are a bad omen to wearing a certain pair of socks for good luck. For instance, I take my grandmother's rosary with me on planes and hold it in my hands during takeoff for comfort even though I'm not at all religious.
Question #6: Does jealously have value in driving humans to improve themselves or is it a purely negative emotion?

I am not particularly superstitious although i do 'touch wood' a lot. If I fear that something I said could come true I touch wood which is supposed to ward off bad Karma. I read the book 'the secret' which is a long winded book that basically says that if you think it or say it you are sending that energy out and it will happen. Not sure how true that is.

I think you can be envious and proud of somebody and use that positively, I think jealousy moves into a different territory where you would happily destroy somebody's achievements for your own gain. Or take credit for a great act or idea ignoring the consequences. Hope this makes sense.

And finally... a last burst of questions!

Question #7: what are your biggest pet peeves?
Question #8: what is a personality trait that immediately draws you to someone?
Question #9: if you could be anywhere in the world right now, completely free of responsibility, where would you choose?
Question #10: what is one thing you don't like about yourself? What about two things you do like about yourself?

Is there one main event in the past that you'd change... Why and how would you?

Is there one thing that you hate to miss watching or listening to?

If you could is there an age you relive? Why?

Apologies if any have been asked I've read all the posts but my memory is terrible lol

Em, that's how I feel every time I ask questions! I have to reread and reread to make sure I'm not asking any repeats.

My biggest pet peeves are coat hangers, (clothes hanger) they were designed by the devil. They get caught on everything. They never sit in unison in the wardrobe (closet) the amount of times I try and pull one out and it's caught behind another.
I also can't stand people who wear tracksuit (jogging) bottoms and shoes. Are they walking or running?

Humour, somebody who is quite witty and has a good sense of humour. I get on well with more grounded and open minded people.

I would be here in England, but in the Lake District, I have been there a few times and there is nothing I have seen more breathtaking and peaceful than at the top of one of their peaks. It's like you have stepped on another planet, watching the hustle in the distance.

I don't like my indecisiveness, I can't make a decision without trying to think of every possible consequence. This is more action based such as accepting a job offer or moving home etc. Buying something like a car is easy because the last 5 I have had I have picked the first one I looked at. (Maybe avoiding looking at another to avoid a decision)

I like my creativity and my open mindedness. I think the two are a result of each other. If an alien approached me tomorrow I wouldn't be shocked, if God phoned me up I wouldn't be shocked either. Despite not being religious.

Thanks for shining the light Jane. Thanks to everyone who asked questions it has been a thought provoking excercise.

    Thanks for your questions Em

I have thought about changing past events often. Could I assinate Hitler?
My great nan lost her fiancé in the war and married another man after the war. My Nan was born shortly after....see where I am going with this. How many times over do you think this sort of history changing event could happen. How many famous sports people, politicians, scientists etc were a result of post war relationships.
I would have to pick something a little more recent, I would probably choose sept 11th and phone the authorities and tell them I have planted bombs in the towers and surrounding buildings. Hopefully they would believe me enough to evacuate the area before the planes hit.

Music is the one thing, when I was tiling I listened to music, when I paint I listen to music. It keeps me going.

I have touched on it before, the Elizabethan era, I would be the court wizard, I would sneak a mobile phone and electric lighter to the past with me.

    Thanks again everyone.

Jane I'm glad I'm not the only one, seems to go in and straight back out haha

Thanks Darren for your insightful answers.

What was the worst and best present you ever received and why?

You're the last person on earth - what do you think you'd do first?

You're stuck on a desert island - what are 3 things you'd have with you? Why is this?

Best present my children, or if going down the material line, a bass guitar called an Epiphone thunderbird, I had always fancied having a go on one. My wife bought it for my 30th.
Worst? My stepmother used to buy me clothes for xmas and birthdays they were usually one step away from fancy dress costumes. Although my nan did buy me a pop up laundry basket for xmas once.

If I was the last person on earth, I would find the flashiest motor I could get my hands on and drive to Buckingham palace and live there.

I would have a pen knife a pan and a pillow if I could foresee that this was going to happen, because you wouldn't need much else. As this is unlikely I would forsee I would end up stranded with an E cig, my phone and a pocket of change. I don't carry much else.

Darren, you are truly one of a kind and an all around good guy. I hope you enjoyed your time in the spotlight. It feel like I got to know you quite a bit better, and I'm sure others feel the same. Thanks for taking a fortnight to share with us.
