Miss Kitty has been randomly selected as our 12th Poet of the Fortnight (PotF)! Kitty is a 43-year-old female from the UK, who joined PnQ in the fall of this year. She has already submitted 51 poems and written no less than 861 comments!!! Thank you for being such an awesome addition to the PnQ community, Miss Kitty :)

Please welcome Kitty to her own special thread, and be sure to read her latest poem posted just below:

    ----
    Where are you?

    I wished upon a star
Wrote your name in frosty screens
Sent a message in a bottle
You never got them so it seems

    I've looked for many years
    Maybe you've searched too
Our paths they never seem to cross
Has fate kept me from you?

    There have been many imposters
For a while posing as 'the one'
    But time reveals true colours
    Many lessons I have learned

I want to feel the real thing
    Not unrequited pretence
I'm ready to stay by myself
    A form of self defense

But if you're there please seek me
There's still time to merge our hearts
We can build a future together
    And I'm excited to start!

Thanks so much Jane for your lovely introduction! I'm absolutely thrilled to be PoF and to be part of this awesome PnQ community :-)
OK ... here we go ...

    Real name: Lia Davies

Meaning behind your PnQ name: Kitty Cat Lady: I own and run a boarding cattery, so my life revolves around cats ... it just seemed like an obvious pen name =^.^=

    Birth place: Hampshire, England

Languages spoken: Just English I'm afraid, although I was pretty good at French in school and still understand the basics

When you discovered PnQ and why you joined: I've been aware of PnQ for a long time because my very good friend and father of my son is Mr Darcy. He's been writing poetry for the entire twenty-something years I've known him! So when my personal life took a nose-dive and I was inspired to write poetry about it, this was the obvious place for me to come and share it ... and I'm so glad I did!

Favorite poet(s): Whilst I'm a prolific reader, I have never sought out poetry to read. The only poetry I read is on PnQ and I have many favourites. I felt so welcomed when I joined and I have been moved by so many poets' work here, all for different reasons ... I have a few top faves, and you know who you are :-) x

Book you are currently reading: 'Love and other near death experiences' by Mil Millington. This is my third read of this book ... it is just the funniest read ever! I read lots of non-important fiction as well other more interesting stuff such as 'The subtle art of not giving a f**k' ... very interesting if you get the chance to have a look at it. But books are ingrained into my childhood and life and sometimes I'm grateful for my sleeping issues, because without them, I might not have done all the reading that I have!

Song you last listened to: I'm sure I should choose something really cool here, but actually, my favourite song right now is 'Friends' by Justin Beiber! So not cool, but it's the last song I listened to, and it makes me sing and dance about ... music is VERY important to me and I have a good range of tastes, but my biggest love is 80s music, because that's the soundtrack to my youth I guess :-)

Inspirations for writing: Well, after a long long time of deep, self-exploration, I decided to part from my husband this summer. There were so many feelings and emotions floating about, and the words just flowed! I also write a lot about my son because due to serious medical issues from birth, he's had a very difficult childhood ... and he is my world!

5 truths about yourself: this is hard!

    1. I've been a vegetarian for 33 years now. I was appalled as an 11 year old to discover about animal cruelty so I made the decision then. It might have been just a phase, but my father forbid me to be a vegetarian, and I have a tendency to do the exact opposite of something if I'm told I can't ... lol ... so it stuck and now I can't imagine ever eating meat again!

    2. I'm rarely seen without a very large mug of tea in my hand ... I drink lots and lots of the stuff!

    3. I'm a very direct person and my motto in life is: "say what you mean and mean what you say" ... I'm not completely tactless, but wherever possible I'm honest.

    4. Due to an accident when I was a child, I am really quite deaf. I wear tiny but very powerful hearing aids and I mostly cope just fine. As well as being more observational because of this, I'm also a pretty good lip reader, which has come in very handy at times over the years ;-)

    5. I can't sleep on planes ... not even when I travelled to Australia and back by myself!

Hi kitty, loved your latest poem.

    Favorite place in the world?
    Do you have any pets?
    your favorite comic book character?
    Your favorite movie?
One dish you cook the best in the world?
In movies which genre you prefer the most?

Hi BH :-) Thanks for your questions x

Favorite place in the world? Tricky because I've seen some lovely places, but a place I visit that always makes me feel happy is Dartmouth in Devon, England. I go to a music festival there once a year with a group of friends, so I have many positive associations with it. It's a really pretty town on a river with cobbled streets and quirky little shops :-)

Do you have any pets? Would you be surprised to know that I own a cat? lol ... her name is Millie and she's very grumpy, but very loyal to me and always sleeps on my bed. I love her!

your favorite comic book character? erm ... I've never been into comic books, but I love Doctor Who because my son is a huge fan and we watch it together. I'm very excited about the first lady Doctor Who next year ... it's about time!

Your favorite movie? ahh! Just one? If I can really only have just one, I suppose the film I can watch over and over is Love Actually, because it makes me laugh and cry in equal measures and it's about people and love ... and it's Christmassy :-)

One dish you cook the best in the world? I'm a terrible cook ... really bad! But, my one redeeming thing is ... I make the best jacket potatoes ever! crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle ... yum!

In movies which genre you prefer the most? Predictable but ... I love modern, romantic comedies or real life stories like The Blind Side, Saving Mr Banks, Erin Brockovich, Lorenzo's Oil, 127 hours etc ... true stories of people overcoming adversity move me to tears.

    Hi Ben :-)

Haha ... things are so bad that my son suggested I future-proof myself by having a teacup tattooed on my wrist so that when I'm too old to speak, I can just gesture to my wrist so people know that I need my tea! I'll admit I was tempted! ;-) x

Thanks for answering those questions I asked. I came up with few more.

Do you believe in after life?
One of your habit you want to quit?
One of your poem which you love the least and which one you love the most?
If life is an endless dream, what would you dream about?

  • Kitty Cat Lady replied to naaz

More great questions BH, thank you :-) x

Do you believe in after life? Absolutely not. This is it. Be nice and make it count!

One of your habit you want to quit? Smoking is my nemesis! I stop and start all the time. Last time I stopped for just over a year but started again a few months ago :-(

One of your poem which you love the least and which one you love the most? Ooh. My least fave is probably 'unchartered waters' .. it's just a bit blah. My fave ... this is hard but I think it's probably 'armoury' because it just flowed out of me and got written in about 10 minutes. And I like the message.

If life is an endless dream, what would you dream about? Crikey! That's hard! Even the most wonderful ideals come with problems!
I'd globally dream of world peace obviously. But for me, I'd happily settle for true love and health and sunshine for me and those I love :-)

    Hey up Mad Cat Lady.

First things first "tea"?!? Yuk yuk yuk. Coffee monkeys back me up here please!

    OK serious time.

You're been here a little while now and have written some fantastic literature. It's been well read and received by many including myself.

I digress, and so to my question, albeit 2 in 1.

Since joining what have you found to be the best and most inspirational things?

    Double edged sword!

Also what things perturb or annoy you?

    Bonus easy question.

Chinese take away or Indian? Not relevant I know but hey ho I'm just weird.

    Does she have pets??!

She keeps cats (evil bloody things lol)

She's planning to take over the world in a feline frenzy.

Only I and my fellow dog soldiers stand before them. (If anyone has seen that movie then my heart bleeds for you, the tittle promised so much more) mind you "cat soldiers" sounds hilarious!

    Sorry! Ish!

    Such wonderful Fortnight Kitty!
What kind of movie do you watch ?
    What is your favorite Art?
Which one do you choose in these three: music, colour, words

Have you ever flied in your dream?
Have you ever found yourself in dream trapped on a rock when you have no way but to jump.
If so , did you, or just woke up?
If you did jump, did you feel such exultation that the ground can not catch you no more?
Have you ever seen colours in your dream? If so how often and which colours?

Hi Em :-) Thanks for your questions x

what's your favourite time/season of the year and why? Summer ... hands down! I hate being cold. I have a weird thing called Raynaud's Syndrome, which limits blood to my fingers when it's cold, making them go completely white and numb, and it hurts! I have to wear layers of gloves and it's a pain. I'm always happy when the sun is shining and I can wear bright, summery clothes. :-)

If you could go back in time what era if any would you go to and why? Ooh ... tricky! I think I'd have enjoyed the decadence of the 1920s ... the dancing and parties and everyone dressed smartly. I also wish I'd been alive and at the right age to enjoy Woodstock in 1969 ... I'd have enjoyed that I think ;-)

    Hey Crazy Craig! ;-)

    Thanks for the questions! x

Firstly tea: Tea, Tea, Tea, Tea, Tea ... all day long!!!! I love the smell of coffee, but the taste make me barf! "Tea is the magic key to the vault where my brain is kept" ... I don't know who's quote this is, but they wrote it for me!

Since joining what have you found to be the best and most inspirational things? People and their stories are inspirational. People and their stories in poetic form are amazing! I love the diversity of what people write about here and how brave they are with sharing their pain, joy and fantasies.

By far the most moving thing since I've joined has been the outpouring of love and support for Andrea and Robyn. It's really touched me. I find it hard to say too much because my son was so poorly for so many years, and we almost lost him several times, and the fear that I experienced during those times still grips and haunts me. It's very close to home, and every time I try to find words of comfort to express this, I just seize up. But it's a special thing here ... people from all over the world, all races and religions supporting a beloved member at the worst time of her life. The words written here for them will endure and they are both in my thoughts constantly.

Also what things perturb or annoy you? Hmm ... lots of things ... bad driving ... rain and wind at the same time ... poor grammar ... badly made cups of tea ... boys/men who wear their trousers lower than their hips (what's that about?!), politicians, animal cruelty ... I could go on! But the thing that annoys me the most is the people that think they're better than other people; who think their needs and demands are greater and their time more precious. I just don't have time for those sorts of people. Everyone has a story. Everyone has had a hard time. No one person should matter less than the next (I make an exception here for murderers, rapists, abusers and those that are cruel to animals for sport ... these people matter less than me for sure!)

    Bonus easy question.

Chinese take away or Indian? Not relevant I know but hey ho I'm just weird. Your words not mine Craig ;-) Indian ... mushroom rice with vegetable masla and Peshwari naan ... I can never eat a whole one ... so take away's last two nights ;-)

lol Craig! Dogs are great for people that need to be needed, because dogs will be loyal no matter what! Cats are far more discerning ... they don't give a flying fig about your needs, so if they are with you, it's not because they feel obligated to do so ... it's because there's no other place they want to be at that moment ... that's far more flattering I think ;-) Cats rock!!!

Hi ddavidd, and thanks for your questions :-) x

What kind of movie do you watch ? I love romantic comedies or real life triumphs that have been made into films ... that moves me :-)

What is your favorite Art? In terms of paintings, I like playful art I think ... so Dali rather than Rembrandt say. But I'm interested in the historical importance of art, what it tells us about the time it was painted, and the value put on such things. There's a fabulous film called 'The woman in Gold' about lady trying to get back her family's Klimt painting that was stolen during the war. True story and fascinating. But I also like modern sculpture and there's a guy called Anthony Howe who creates the most amazing kinetic wind sculptures ... if I was wealthy, that's what I'd buy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceNAwdsibkc

Which one do you choose in these three: music, colour, words music, closely followed by words. I'm always humming and singing and I get ear worms for certain songs, then play them over and over!

Have you ever flied in your dream? I have a recurring dream where I sort of float/hover down stairs and fly back up them

Have you ever found yourself in dream trapped on a rock when you have no way but to jump. Not that I can recall ... and I probably would because my dreams are very vivid and I usually remember them.
If so , did you, or just woke up?
If you did jump, did you feel such exultation that the ground can not catch you no more? I'm guessing you've had this dream ddavidd? what did you do and feel?

Have you ever seen colours in your dream? If so how often and which colours? I think I dream in colour ... I never thought of them as black and white so I'm guessing they're in colour! And then it must be all the colours!

-Sorry for weird questions. I am not good at normal ones.- I like weird questions ;-)

Thanks for responding dear Kitty. I am glad you like weird questions.

What specific movies? Any particular actor- actress? Do you like profound movies?

The circumstances of the fly is different; some of them do not even involve rocks or mountain, some jump over building or trees or... But the feelings , the exultations, are almost identical , as far as those who share these dream goes.
I wanted to see if you were a bird in your dream, because birds, usually, before being thrown off the tree or..., by their parents in order to discover or to make use of their wings, are afraid of heights. This is the reason behind the recurring entrapment of some sort, when you have no way to go but to jump while dreaming. But if you are not ready, you would wake up. Haha I hop your cat hasn't yet caught your little birdy dear Kitty ;) ;)
I also liked your staircase recurring dreams.

If you see colours specifically, that means dreaming in colour, and that always comes with specific colour like blue or read. Like you notice the water is blue, or see a pair of red cardinals.
If you do not remember, it means the colour recognition part of your brain was not participating in the dream so it doesn't necessary mean black and white, because those are colours too. Some dream specialist say colour dreams are very rare and are very significant.

I shall come for more questions. I liked these answers kitty.

I love modern, romantic comedies or real life stories like The Blind Side, Saving Mr Banks, Erin Brockovich, Lorenzo's Oil, 127 hours etc ... true stories of people overcoming adversity move me to tears. I'd say Tom Hanks is my fave actor ... he's just so very good at his craft, but he's also a really decent guy. I recently saw an interview with him, and they showed him this guy that been part of the crew on a film he'd made years and years ago, and Tom remembered this guys name and what he did. I think that's lovely! :-)

Love all the dream stuff ... it's fascinating and I'll pay more attention to the colours :-) x

    Hey lovely Michael :-)

Okay, I f I asked you what are three words you love, what would they be? (no! not- 'Mug of tea' haha)

Well ... my favourite word has to be 'Fluff' because it's the word my son and I use instead of 'love' ... I know you know, but if anyone doesn't get it ... I wrote a poem about it called .... 'Fluff' .... hahaha
hmmm ... other words ... I know I use the word 'brilliant' a lot! ... I'm pretty expressive about good things.
Another 'in-joke' word is Benzodiazepines ... because my son was allergic to these from a young age, and so he learned the word, and then used it as his secret password to his home-built forts
other fave words are probably obscure swear words that make me giggle ... I daren't type any here for fear of being lynched, but in the appropriate company, I like funny swear words :-)

And when you first had hearing-aids, what did it feel like in 'sound' way?

Great question! Well I lost a lot of my hearing age 11. About a 60% loss in both ears. So without hearing aids I can hear stuff, but it's very muffled. But bass tones are not too bad. I was taken shortly after this to get fitted with great big, behind-the-ear aids. I hated them ... not only because I was embarrassed, but because they sounded so awful ... every sound was distorted and I just couldn't get on with them. So in true, stubborn Lia-style, I refused to wear them. I just learned to cope. To observe better, to lip read. It wasn't until I went to university aged 24 that I had to admit defeat. You can't ask a lecturer to keep repeating what they've said! By this time, technology had moved on and I was able to buy small, but powerful in-the-ear aids. When I first wore them at home and heard the water running from the tap, it made me cry! They took some getting used to, but now I don't think I'd cope without them. I hear what you all hear, just to a lesser extent and with less clarity of the high pitches. I have a special vibrating alarm clock under my pillow, and a special phone that connects wirelessly to my hearing aids. Technology has changed my world :-) xx

I was terrified of doctor who as a child too! But I really enjoy it now :-) my fave doctor was David Tennant but for Lucas it's Matt Smith. Hi Ben xx
    Thanks for the question:-)

How much of you and your life reflects what you thought it would resemble as a teenager? Or how little, perhaps?

Truth is, almost none. When I was a teenager I always thought I'd travel the world and marry someone from overseas. I thought I'd be a writer or something. But as it always does, life happened and after a heated row about my education, my parents sent me packing when I was 17. I had to grow up very quickly and then life was all about working. Almost every time I've had a goal and started to work towards it, something's happened to throw me off course and lead me down a different path, sometimes a better one and sometimes not. But I just think that's life, it's been very interesting so far! ;-) x

    Here another weird question.
    Have you heard THE music??

Note: Sure not you, but sometimes some people ( a bit suspicious I suppose) get offended when I ask this vague question. Perhaps they think I am trying to mock. But it is not true. People who have heard IT , they know. Those who haven't, the only reason that I ask , is, to let them know there is ONE, and there is nothing more gratifying than hearing IT.
It is not to brag or put anyone down( because if we are that kind of people, THE music would never reveal itself to us) It is just to spown a sense of anticipation and create a vacuum for foresight.

So, have you heard THE music?

  • Kitty Cat Lady replied to ddavidd

    Hi ddavidd :-)

Weird question, yes, but I'm not suspicious or offended, but you do need to give me some clarity ...

Are you saying "there's ONE special piece of music ... I've heard it, have you?"

    Or

Are you asking me if there is a piece of music that is special to me above all others that I've listened to?

    Or

Have I missed the point entirely and you're asking something else? :-)

I was not explaining to you believe me I know you are cool and you do not mind a little crazy. One could fly way higher when loosen a few knots of norm here and there sometimes. Though considering the past experiences you must see the point of my being careful.

It was in Tucson Arizona that first I heard it. I was going to a mall called Park place (I would never forget) that I heard it first. It was an euphoric experience, though it was so real. I could obviously see that there was not any source, the music was in my ears. First it was so low, then became more clear. It was out of this world, so deep, so powerful that words cannot describe. The interesting part was the sense of familiarity, even though I could see clearly I have never heard that, and it was not like any music which was ever made, but it was so familiar like, how could I say, the smell of mother
So here you have it. This is the first time publicly I described this for anyone and it was in your fortnight. I do not know why, maybe because you said you do not mined weird.
I learned later that some had the same experience with some minor different details
My poetry is very affected by this experience.

  • Kitty Cat Lady replied to ddavidd

    Hi ddavidd :-)

Firstly, everyone's 'norm' is different, so to them, they might have already loosened a few knots outside of their comfort zone, but it may still appear 'low flying' to you because you're coming at it from a different perspective? So I agree that it's wise to exercise a little caution until you know where they're coming from. :-)

THE music thing sounds amazing and I've never experienced anything like it. I can understand why it must have touched you given that you heard it so clearly. BUT ... I believe that our minds and imaginations have no bounds. To think of all the wonderful music that has been written, must have first existed in someone's imagination, and how we receive such information to our consciousness, is surely as different as each individual person is. Same applies to any creation, be that poetry, painting etc.

And to refer back to your earlier question about dreaming in colour ... I made a mental note to think more about my dreams as I woke up, and I can confirm, that I do dream in colour!
Last night, there was a giant yellow cat, wearing a red Christmas collar on green grass. Also, I was kissing a cowboy, but I'm not sure that's relevant ;-)

Thanks for the 'weird' ddavidd ... it's fun! :-) x

It is quite fascinating that you could see colours this fast. You do not seem dreamer type. They are not usually as out spoken as you are.
Now here another assignment: See if you could find your hand in your dream,( doesn't matter which one, any one) . Just make a note that you want to do so, the way that you did with colours. Then if you remembered your hand while are dreaming, try to lift it up to the level if your face, if you are not up by then, now count your fingers. one by one to the five. By now you should be up. No beginner has that much energy to last this much, if you did, now pay attention to the details of your hand.
Good luck on that and be true to yourself. If you see your hand, you will see it so vividly, there are no vagueness or uncertainty.

If you could only live with one of the two, which would it be?

    Liz, that's just mean! Lol
I honestly feel that both are equally important to my sanity. Tea just soothes me, it's a hug in a (large) mug! But cats ... well they're my livelihood and my passion. I get them and they get me. It's proven and well documented that a purring cat on your lap lowers blood pressure and is good for your wellbeing. And, for me a house isn't a home until at least one cat shares it with you.
I guess I've answered the question ... I'd VERY reluctantly give up tea if I absolutely HAD to choose! *huge sigh even at the thought of it .. reaching for the kettle* :-) x

    Hi ddavidd :-)

It is quite fascinating that you could see colours this fast. You do not seem dreamer type. They are not usually as out spoken as you are.

Hahaha ... this honestly made me laugh so much! ;-) yes I am very outspoken, but I've always had very vivid dreams and I have lots of recurring dreams.
I will absolutely look for my hand in my dream. Now if you'd said look for your feet that would be easy, because I have a recurring dream that includes my feet a lot! Does that count? Lol. I'll keep you posted

    Thanks ddavidd :-) x

Miss Kitty, I have loved your questions and answers. Fascinating! I too love tea, coffee, bleachhhhh....... I also have a cat, she's cool as hell and at times crazy. We (my girls and I) had her about 6 months or so when I met my now husband. She took to him immediately. They say cats choose who they love, he was it. I also have Reynauds. How crazy is that? I too start wearing gloves in October just to keep them from hurting. My oldest daughter is allergic to the cold, she breaks in hives, grocery stores are even too cold for her.
Sorry, I digress....what kind of music is your favorite? If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be? Biggest celebrity crush? If you could have a conversation with someone (anyone, alive or dead) who and what sort of stuff would you talk about?
P.S. Craig can keep his coffee......

    Hi lovely Brenda :-)

Yay! Cats and tea are cool and Reynaud's sucks! Your poor daughter though! Good excuse to not have to go grocery shopping though :-) I completely agree that cats choose their humans ... I hear such stories time and again from my customers!

what kind of music is your favorite?
I love 80s music ... as well as it being the soundtrack of my youth I just feel it was a special time for great music that has endured. But I also love dance music. I go to ceroc dancing at least once a week and I love it. It's kind of like modern jive ... brilliant fun!

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
Ooh ... tricky! Somewhere hot of course ;-) I've been to Australia but would love to see more of that. I've been to Mexico and have dived in the Philippines many years ago. I've never yet been to America and that's next on my list. I want to see New York and San Francisco in particular ...

    Biggest celebrity crush?
Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played Jason in The Good Wife makes me swoon! *sigh*

If you could have a conversation with someone (anyone, alive or dead) who and what sort of stuff would you talk about?
Great question but sooo hard! Although I would love to have sat down with George Michael or Prince to discuss their music and inspiration, I think I'd choose someone like J K Rowling who wrote Harry Potter. She started writing at one of the worst times of her life and her imagination fascinates me. But more than that, her extreme wealth off the back of that. She was one of the world's wealthiest people and fell off the list due to setting up so many charities and giving it all away which is amazing! I'd like to talk about what keeps her grounded and where her inspiration for writing comes from.
I also think that Jodi Picoult is an amazing fiction writer who tackles really tricky subjects in her books. So her too!
I'm sure I should have said someone more 'thinky' like Plato or Einstein but these people fascinate me I guess because they have more of an impact on my everyday life :-)

    Thanks Brenda ;-) x

Kitty... I am so late in this thread, been very busy. First of all, your name is beautiful - Lia! We had a phenomenal TV series here in the Phils about a lady werewolf and her name was Lia. But I think werewolves are more connected to dogs and not cats though, haha.

Forgive me if these questions are already answered maybe I am not reading well!

Do you have a favorite romance/love poem? What is it and who wrote it?

    If not, haha why not??
