Winters Awe (Haiku Montage) by Brenda
Haiku are short poems with a 5-7-5 syllable count. A poem split into two with
the first two lines making a statement and then a breath with a final line leap.
This is a Haiku Montage a poem made from four Haiku. It fulfils the required
5-7-5 syllable count and each stanza fulfils the rules of a Haiku. Each stanza
capable of standing alone but as part of a montage brings a much richer view
of winter. Brenda has completely inspired that cold to the bone feeling caused
by the cold of Winter with images of frozen earth and glittering snowflakes.
An excellent portrayal of this cold but beautiful time of the year. (4 points)

Winter’s Awe by Brenda
I love the purity of this haiku string and the simplicity in creating a
portrait of winter. I think for so many, winter and its darkness has a
tendency to depress and worry some, especially with the stress of
driving in snow and ice, yet you have reminded us of the natural
beauty of this season. Of what we so often take for granted or complain
about. Love the sound, images and atmosphere you have written here.
My only suggestion is to not forget to add an apostrophe for "winters" -
both in the title and poem it should be "winter's". But thank you, for
bringing forward the reminder of the joy of winter, its warmth and all
it can inspire. Indeed, winter is a "quiet beauty", much like this
piece. (10 points)

Winter’s Awe by Brenda
A breathtaking piece about winter! I really love the over-all tone and
the haiku strings cohered well to make up the poem. It was a visual
treat for me…and gave me an almost magical feeling! This is really a
great write considering it follows a form structure. Amazing piece!

On arriving home at four in the morning by Elizabeth
This poem got my attention from the opening lines. I love how the writer
here poetically paints the domestic picture. There are some great metaphors
here and I loved how the poem flowed so smoothly. A sad piece but
exudes so much strength. (4 points)

On arriving home at four in the morning by Elizabeth
This poem exquisitely portrays a relationship at the crossroad of
breaking up or becoming solid. The agony of dealing with negativity
is neatly set against the feeling that perhaps much of the negativity
originated with her. The need to cut losses is juxtaposed with the belief
that much can be gained. While no answer is certain, despite the act of
leaving, the act of introspection is well done! (7 points)

Without a Why by Meena Krish
In my opinion this is a racy poem one of which could be interpreted
in two ways... I thought of Romeo and Juliet on the first read two
star crossed lovers though one wanted it all and the other couldn't/
wouldn't accept the other so to speak. The words used were perfect
and added perfection to an already perfect piece as did the imagery
which was astounding. (7 points)

“In the wake of a turbulent smile”
Wonderful imagery of undying devotion
I think of a mother’s love for a troubled child who rejects her advice
and wisdom. He openly gives his love to the one who bore him yet
must find his own way. Still, she will not abandon him. (4 points)

Behind Insignificance by ddavidd
Wow, a truly beautiful and inspiring poem! The title in itself is a beautifully
coined one. The message that it conveyed to me is to appreciate the little
things behind mundane moments. It’s like this poem is convincing me that
life is really a beautiful thing. And I cannot help but believe it because this
piece is captivating and simply heart-warming. I really loved the rich
vocabulary here and the tone. A brilliant work and deserves my top
vote this week. (10 points)

Broken Butterflies by Tony
Excellent rhyming and effortless rhythm. A beautiful but sad
portrayal of one haunted by memories of shared experiences and
feelings that cannot be forgotten. This will resonate with anyone
who has ever lost someone close to them whether through death or
another way. When you lose a loved one, feelings and memories are
not easily dissipated and can haunt us relentlessly. A smell or sound
bringing them rushing to the forethought of our minds when we least
expect it. The imagery of a butterflies wings clipped was heart
breaking and a perfect summing up of this emotional write.

Diary of a Serial Killer (part 1) by Ben Pickard
A well rhymed flowing piece that is full of gory imagery. It was
a feast of a poem. Very cleverly penned with just the right amount
of blood and gore, wrapped into a glorious tale of murderous
slaughter and the internal observations from a killers mind. It’s
rare to find a poem that balances the macabre details so well and
I feel sure that it would give writers such as Poe and Richard Layman
a run for their money. Can't wait for part two... (10 points)

In between the butterflies by Black hole
This was a rather intriguing piece which I had to read a few
times to get the full beauty of it and my goodness is it beautiful
yet so full of yearning to find that person you can't live without.
Beautiful and full of rhyming. (4 points)

Blood Moon by Tony
Am extremely mystical piece with fantastic rhyme and
imagery of which I can't really add much to the comments
already left.. This just blew me away and left me high and dry
so to speak, wanting more. (10 points)

In Loving Memory by Maple Tree
As heartbreaking as this was, it was completely phenomenally
breathtaking. I've read it nearly a hundred times this week, and
each time I feel like I'm losing another piece of myself. It is well
worth a nomination and hopefully a win because of the sheer
artistry encasing the pain and purpose of this. Maple Tree's
voice aches and that is nothing short of crystal clear, but what is
most shocking about this piece is the way that she almost seems to
remain composed despite the chaos raging through every line.
Stunningly penned. (10 points)

Watercolor by Slullyna
Art is incredible, watercolor images are some of the most stunning
pieces I've ever seen (sometimes, okay well most times) and I think
that the author of this piece was able to make a great connection
between the process of creating with watercolors to the process of
realizing that someone in your life is not necessarily actually
necessary at all. The colorful emotions of this piece seep into the
heart of the audience and act just like the paint would to paper. I
think that was a great touch! Especially, with the repetition –
perfectly placed. This is a great example of how something that
inspires you actually can be translated into poetry and beautiful
even without images beside it. (4 points)

Power of Love (Senyru) by Larry Chamberlain
There are so many things about this piece that I love. Personal
things, like how this makes me think of my way to work everyday,
as well as simple, poetry things like how having such a limited amount
of space and syllables was able to be so stunning. Though I suppose
not every scene that is worth a damn needs to be long or drawn out.
The lack of punctuation was unexpected, but it worked well and carried
the piece along a smooth flow. The scene was gorgeous and everything
about this piece really did capture the title. In fact it would even be
kinda neat or fun to see the author pen a short series of these scenes,
or other authors adding on to it as well. (7 points)
