A Little Rhyme For Christmas Time #2.

  • CJ Maleney
5 years ago, updated 5 years ago

I can't believe it's a year since I ran this comp. It was such a blast I figured I'd give it a second go.

    Rules are simple.

It must rhyme but in whatever style you desire.

It must somehow tie into Christmas but it doesn't have to be baubles and tinsel.

I would also ask that you hold off posting on your own side until the winners are announced. Just a request but I think it's better.

If you fancy having a go post your poems here and I'll open a new thread for voting on the 16th.

Entries to be in by midnight sat 15th of December (GMT) and voting to take place over the following week. These to be sent to myself via personal message please. Voting will close at Midnight sat 22nd December. Again GMT. Voting to be in the usual format 10 for your favorite, 7 for your second place and 3 for your 3rd choice.

Just like last year I'll post the results on Christmas eve.

    Regards one and all

    Craig

Ps you don't have to be Christian to get into the spirit of things it open to all as is only just.

    Christmas without #1
    By Maple Tree

    She began starving long ago
standing alone, frozen from head to toe,
left fighting for freedom within her own mind
searching for presents she'll never find.

    Vacant eyes and blank stares
    twinkling lights, judgmental glares,
another meth head in the mist
crossing her off the Christmas list.

People gather for family and fun
    wrapping packages, stockings being hung,
but her mother can't ignore that one empty chair
or the fact she's in pain, helpless out there.

    Emptiness fills a heart
    when one of six departs,
may her soul feel my tears
    and ease my aching fears.

    Call me this Christmas, please
put your mother's mind at ease,
your wings are withered, lips turning blue
put down the pipe, it's not Christmas without you.

Craig- Your challenges always spark me- when I need to really get it out... thank you for hosting.

    CHRISTMAS CONTACT (silent night)
    By CJ Maleney 08/12/2018

In a home in suburban eutopia,
    Children lay awake feigning sleep,
    Listening for tell tale footfalls.
    As around their parents creep.

    Eventually fatigue will win,
They will fade away to dreams.
While mom prepares meats and delicacies,
    Dad slices up the greens.

Smiles on faces and pats on bums,
    Delicate like Wings of doves.
Just once a year for merry cheer
    To celebrate all they love.
    --------------
Leap two thousand miles or more from here,
If it were possible and such a thing could be.
To an outpost on the edge of no man's land,
There sits a little, plastic Christmas tree.

    It's decoration meagre,
It has not one single twinkling light.
The men who slumber round about it,
Won't be singing hymns this night.

That tree was sent by loved ones,
In an attempt to bring some cheer.
The letter that accompanied it ends,
"we wish that you were here"

    One man sits awake, alert.
For it is time to take his turn,
    Gently humming silent night.
As the wireless buzzes and it whirrs

He sits and sips his rat pack tea,
Trying to force away the cold.
Part of his brain focused for a contact,
    Part forever missing home!

The chatter becomes alive and flowing.
And the solider has a thing to choose,
"Hands of co€ks put on your socks
    "Q.R.F STAND TO"

The men startle and grab their weapons,
As urgent words come through the wire.
On stroke of midnight, that dreaded call,

    "Zero this is bravo one"

    "SHOTS FIRED"

Foot note. rat pack tea=ration pack tea. Q.R.F =Quick reaction force

    Obituaries this Christmas

    Christmas alone
    no one for my own
    self pity sparks fly
    causing the tears I cry
    as everyone celebrates

    the world awaits
    my obituary -

    "another soul gone
    for they've no one
    to rest upon"

    iPhone X(mas)

A woman sits on a mall Santa’s lap,
her friends take pictures on Snapchat
Instagram stories of Christmas dinners -
Selfies upon selfies with Christmas filters

During lunch, we text our friends -
we pull a cracker, then press send
    Grandma glares, mouthful of food,
scolds “put that away, that’s so rude!”

“Get off your phone hun, it’s Christmas time..”
gotta take a quick selfie with my glass of wine!
But the light’s not great, wait, I look fat,
Never mind, here’s a pic of gran with a party hat!

Michael Buble playlist is on repeat,
Sitting in the front room with family,
Dinner is over, plates are clean,
    everybody’s staring at their screens!

Unfortunately this is the way of the world now... When I did Xmas dinner for all my family last year I decided to take their phones off them at the door and the first to even think about peeking did the washing up lol believe me it was one of the best xmases ever we didn't stop talking and laughing :)
My sister did ask "what about pictures" my reply... Well I've a proper camera that doesn't mean you'll be there taking hours and hours of selfies but group photos instead... Only some of the best might I add!!

This reminds me of my own family. Not myself though, I only use social media as a means of communication with my ex forces mates and a group I'm involved with. Even then I think it would be nice just to receive a call sometime.

Personally I think social media is poison.

I’m guilty of using mine a little too much but I try to refrain when I’m around people - I think it’s a little ironic we socialise with the people we’re not stood next to haha

    Christmas Wish

    My life is dark
    I cannot see
    what kind of life
    is left for me
    If I could have
    one single friend
    just one on whom
    I could depend

    Bring me a gift
    oh Santa Claus
    with waggy tail
    and four small paws
    who's fully trained
    and seeks a home
    and could come here
    to help me roam

    He'd open doors
    to guide me through
    and always be
    to me most true
    when outside he
    would walk along
    then bring me home
    where I belong

    My guide dog would
    be my new sight
    bring to my life
    a brand new light
    and change the way
    I view my world
    at night in bed
    he would lay curled

    This gift would change
    my life for good
    much better than
    any other could
    So Santa please
    do hear my plea
    and make this wish
    come true for me

    Hi all :)
These are great festive poems, with such diverse meanings. It shows also where we are right now in life, even though its Christmas. 'Christmas is not just for Christmas' its for all year round, by this I mean the joy, sharing, happiness and sadness :)

Well done Craig on a nice little thread fella.

    'Good old Santa'

Its time to sleep, so close your eyes
as sleigh bells ring throughout the skies.
A chimney breast becomes a flume
where Santa slides into your room.

This poor old chap he cannot slack
he has a job that he must crack
and all he has is Christmas eve
for all the gifts that he must leave.

no job too small, no job too big
he always does this festive gig
so don’t forget he’ll need to eat
to help him with this festive feat

he likes mince pies all laced with rum
to keep him warm and on the run
from dusk to dawn he’s on the go
come rain or shine or even snow

    so merry Christmas Santa Claus
you so deserve a huge applause
without your yearly job you do
we’d have to all dress just like you!

    SNEAKY SANTA

    Singing Christmas carols
Is what we all wish for
And Santa leaves presents under the tree
Using the chimney or the door

    Speaking of Santa, you hear?
He's not at all the goodest man
    He brakes into people's homes
Without a creak or a bang

    He steals your Christmas cookies
And eats all of your pie
And he feeds the reindeers carrots
So that none of them die

This Santa is not good at all
    Not even a little bit
    He sneaks into people's homes
    When the fireplace ain't lit

He's just broken into your home
    What will you do?
Will you call the police at midnight?
    That'll make him shoo

    He tries to run away
    But he is too late
    You've already began attacking him
    Using the bloody cheese grate

He begins to bleed a lot
Like the colour of his suit
And when he goes back to your house
He'll make sure to be on mute

    You won't attack him then
    Or will he be mistaken?
He'll make sure to take all the knives
    That live within your kitchen

    Then he'll creep upstairs
    While you are asleep
And he will begin to attack you
    Leaving cuts so very deep

You'll be too asleep too notice
You won't be able to breathe
    Because you've just gotten sliced
    Before this Santa leaves

So have a a Happy Christmas
And be careful what you wish for
Because he is always watching but

    Have a Happy New Year!
