Since we decided it wasn't leap year (blushes red) but due to looking at the wrong year in the new diary :) we changed this to a Leaping and jumping poem competition. The submissions are now published at the bottom of the page. Judging is open to everyone from tomorrow. (Leaving time for any last minute submissions by close today) All the best Milly x

VOTING SYSTEM HAS NOW CHANGED - Due to some confusion about it. So just let me know who you thought was the best one (rather than the 10 for the winner, 7 for second and 8 for third) Please do keep the votes coming in last voting chance is Friday.... Thank you much appreciated Milly x

Contest sounds great, but leap year is next year

You should run it anyway: like Alice in Wonderland’s unbirthday: an unleap year contest

What a great idea... anything relating to leap or leaping is great. I dont know why I thought it was a leap year maybe because it was 1.am when posting ???

Any excuse for a competition is my motto. Would love to see some poems leaping in :)

Here are the poems that have been submitted for the Leaping challenge. Voting is open to everyone from tomorrow so If anyone wants to send me in any last minute submissions I will post them by end of day. Anyone can send in their vote for 10 points the winner, 7 points and 4 points by close on Friday I will publish the winner on Saturday morning (UK time)

    In no particular order
    Entry 1
    Miss Milly said contest
and I hopped to it, with
    a skip in every step
like the frog in the myth

so now i rhyme in leaps
    and bounds: an ode
    to vertical motion -
    toss in a warty toad.

    -----------------------
    Entry 2

    Ribbit (acrostic)

    Down on the pond
    And the lily pads sit
In a line, you will find. . .
    Seven froglets – ribbit
    Yes, ribbit, yes ribbit

    Bountiful are schools of flies
    Eagle-eyed is Milly’s prize
    Leaping and crunching
    Lunching they munch it
    Eat-ribbit – munch-ribbit, burp-ribbit

Whoosh, a hungry Heron flies on by
Away the frogs flee – dive, dive, dive
Returning to their pads, all have survived, they
    Dance, yes, ribbit, grin-ribbit, sing-ribbit

    -------------------
    Entry 3

    You told me to
    leap
    like a gazelle
    in a golden forest -
    but I never needed
    speed
    or height
    or distance...
    I needed the kind
    of leap where I
    rely on
    nothing but lungs,
    the breath of a soul
    fighting.
    I needed to trust
    no one else,
    landing
    in complete
    acceptance of
    myself.
