Happy Monday, everyone! This week we watched love express its triumph and sorrow, especially in Milly's "Love and time wait for nothing", which speaks about the journey love can carry us through but insists that we must keep fighting despite what life throws at us. Next, we have Ya---Na's emotional write titled "Poetry?" that is haunting and provoking in its question of "what if" certain things were said to this love. We did have the site break a tie between Aegis' piece "Invisible Ink" and Daniel's "Petals & Rosebuds", the latter taking the front page with its dreamy imagery, romance and sense of belonging. Congrats to the winners and honorable mentions (note that Dagmar received two this week!). Thank you to the judges as always.

    Take care <3

    COMMENTS:

"Love and time wait for nothing" by: Milly Hayward

"Heartfelt for sure, lovely rhyming." (10)

"Time can whisk away the pictures
But your words will always be close to my heart
Golden pages of your love is deep in my chest
To strip off its Lustre, my soul needs to be tear apart." (7)

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Milly's poem is a cautionary tale of what can happen when space and distance takes a toll on a relationship. Long distance love affairs are difficult under any circumstances. Milly's poem hints of a betrayal amongst the lovers causing even a deeper rift that's not going to heal. Her abab rhyming scheme is really well done." (7)

    "Poetry?" by: Ya---Na

"I surfed with the girl of my dreams on waves of infatuation and the kisses we shared quenched thirst of our souls. With the ink of emotions we wrote promises on skin. And while I was drowning in the fear of nostalgia, the thread of your texts saved me." (10)

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"Ya---Na gives us a poem of young love and the highs and lows of this. Do we all remember those early days? Everything was electric, we positively zinged from just being near them. Feeling like this made us so vulnerable, so do you bare all and risk being destroyed or withhold and possibly miss out. Ya---Na wrote a deeply personal piece about baring his heart and being rejected in the end." (4)

    "Petals & Rosebuds" by: Daniel

"The opening stanza: "I saw the promise of Spring dancing in your irises love, and as I got closer to the meadow, I could taste the pollen on my tongue" immediately took me to a sunny spring day in a meadow and young love. With the weather here cold and bleak It was a delight to be taken into memories of nature at its best woven around a tasteful romantic love scene." (7)

    "Very professional, wonderful lines." (4)

    COMMENTS:

    "Invisible Ink" by: Aegis

"I often think before I write something if - somewhere, somehow - the words are already there and already structured. The idea that they can be pulled from the air and made into something beautiful is an idea that's always fascinated me. Perhaps if we stare at a page long enough or 'listen closely' we may just be able to find meaning before anything has even been written. Anyway, this poem made me think and so it receives my seven." (7)

"Your blankest pages do much more than speak volumes. Only you can portray a beautiful image on the canvas of our heart with an invisible ink." (4)

"After the Honeymoon" by: Larry Chamberlin

"I think, somehow, the date makes this beautifully written poem more poignant. I know Larry is still married to the person who inspired this piece and that just makes it all the more...well, poetic. It really is a perfect write. Thank you for sharing." (10)

    "Love's voyage" by: Mr. Darcy

"Mr. Darcy has written such a swoon worthy love poem. To spend your life with someone you truly care about is all we can ask for. All these little moments we spend with each other add up to a lifetime of love. We become as one and as we age the love we have never wans, it becomes deeper. This poem is love personified!" (10)

"These Earthly Things Will Do" by: Ben Pickard

"This is a perfect love sonnet, unforced, flowing and filled to the brim with emotion and imagery. It has all the glory and dynamics of the sonnets
of old yet is modern setting a mix of both worlds. The lines "To steal the colour from a butterfly" and "Swap the roses for the weeds" are such wonderful
and imaginative metaphors that make me want to keep reading this over and over again."

    "Dear Poetry" by: Dagmar Wilson

"Great write, giving Art a voice." (7)

    _______________________

    "I forgive you" by: Em

"This gets my 4 this week because it reads like a call to arms for anyone who has ever been mistreated. These things can happen and bring real misery upon someone, but there is usually a balance to everything in life as is stated in the comments, and Em seems to have found hers at least. She has suffered, but come out the other side - perhaps stronger and more appreciative than she may have been if she had never suffered these wounds, both mental and physical. I am aware, however, that that is a potentially ignorant thing to say, but I wonder if Em herself would agree with me? It would make it an even greater victory, wouldn't it, to be able to say "because you did this to me, I am happier and stronger than I otherwise would have been".
You go, girl, and be very happy." (4)

    "Lasting Flowers" by: Dagmar Wilson

"I read this poem several times and whilst short it has a strong message that despite all odds even the smallest of flowers can survive the worst of conditions. I felt an excellent metaphor for life especially as we go through tough times." (4)

& thank you kindly, not just for the judge’s comments, but everyone who continues to read and leave feedback my poetry. There were a lot of really lovely poems this week. No easy task for a judge. Congratulations to the other winners, Ya—-Na, and Milly. Really well deserved. :)

In the spirit of valentines, love you all! And I’m sorry Aegis! Your poem said a lot in a few words and was worthy of being on the front page.

I read through all the nominations the other day, and to be honest, I don't know how the judges picked this week as there really was some outstanding work. In my opinion, six or seven pieces could have graced the front page.
Anyway, well done to the winners and my fellow hms and thank you to the judges for their time and comments.

I don't know if it was this swoony time of year, but the quality of poetry this week was breath-taking. Well done everyone who posted a poem and were lucky enough to win or receive, like me, an honourable mention. The judges have excelled themselves reading through so many prize poems and choosing their favourites. I would like to thank the judge who awarded my Valentine's poem 10 points - your words mean a lot. I sat down one Saturday afternoon and just thought about how I feel about my partner and wrote. Sometimes, that's all it takes.
Thanks again for everyone's effort, we do love this contest. Love to all x

Thank you ma for posting the results and as ever the judges for taking the time out of their busy schedules to rifle through such difficult poetry to choose their favourites and my goodness was this week difficult than some of the previous ones.
Congratulations to the 3 winners and to all fellow hms.
I would like to thank the judge for kindly giving my piece their 4 and thinking it worthy of it, it truly does mean more than you could know.
    Xx
