Hope everyone has been having a good start to their new year. Thought we could break the silence here - just leave a prompt for the person below! It can be a few words, an explanation or setting, whatever you want. Thanks!

You are sneaking in to your house after locking yourself out, not having the key, and having to get creative on how you enter. However, you meet someone inside, who promptly think you are an intruder and calls the police on you. What do you do? Who is this person?

Ooh interesting, would love to see what people come up with for that prompt!

    ------------

the earth is starting to orbit further and further away from the sun.

Well no one has used the prompts so here I am combining them both lol

    ***

The earth is orbiting further away from the sun,
and I can't seem to get myself back home.
The universe has locked me out, I wonder alone
    around constellations searching for warmth.
I spin with the planets trying to find an axis
for myself, and the gravity to lock in my own
    moon.

The sun is orbiting aways from me too.

    ***

You wake up drowning with your car in the ocean, you dont know how you got there. You're locked in for a moment you panic then you realize you can breathe under water. What's happening to you? Are you dead, and this is your soul wondering around? Or are you a mermaid/merman? Or is it some other supernatural thing?

The pain in my head awakens me
to the sucking of wine-dark sea
as the ship sinks slowly down
seaweeds to be my final crown.

    Amphoras of Flavian red
settle and roll to the sea bed
    shipmates are gone - mysterious!
    It appears I’m becoming delirious

    What unfathomed being is coming
    arms of woman stretched welcoming
lifted from out the ocean’s waves
beckoning to me I know she saves.

As Timbers crack the hull breaking
I leap out the deck forsaking,
into those arms soft and strong
back to the depths where we belong.

You are a cat on a window seat staring at a bird feeder teeming with finches, woodpeckers and, below them, squirrels harvesting the spilled sunflowers

The Cat On The Window Seat

    often, days go by
like food on the bird’s feeder.
    each day, finches feast peacefully
as flowers bask under sunshine rays
    but on some occasions
    woodpeckers peck at my ears
    continuously

even winds pat them with breezes
    when their beaks drill
without a flinch at sunflowers seeds

    meanwhile
    grasses grow greener
    with squirrels
    harvesting spill sunflowers
    in their soils

    *sigh*

    often
    days go by
like food on the bird’s feeder
    but mostly
    days go by
    lost in my own reflection

    *****

You are a universe on your own. The home of millions upon millions of microscopic creatures designed to fulfill a purpose of some kind. Each day, you expand with knowledge.

^ Sorry, Luce! Finally catching up with this :D

    I am omnipresent -
    an essence unnamed, unknown
    to the infinitesimal spirits
    that thrive off each other.
    Through each movement,
    mirrored, we learn and
    evolve and extend our
aura. No one knows the depth
    and expanse of my mysteries,
    of what I hold within,
    of what we will become.

You're baking something in the kitchen for the first time (be creative!) and suddenly someone rings the doorbell. Who is it and what is your response?

    Baking buns in the kitchen
I jumped out of my skin
For someone rang my door bell
To see if I was in

    I dropped my oven gloves
    and toppled through the door
Struggled and got to my feet
    then skidded on the floor

I reached out and turned the knob
The door flung back at me
    It was my husband grimacing
    He'd forgotten his door key

As I began to scream abuse
    My stomach started churning
For smoke was coming thick and fast
My buns it seemed were burning

Panic ensued we were truly screwed
Flames were there for us to see
But then my husband saved the day
put out the flames then kissed me
    __________

    Prompt

A flock of birds have landed on the window sill and are looking in at you. What's your reaction and what do you do?

  • Poet on the Piano replied to Milly Hayward

    ^
Their eyes follow me left and right,
but I don't mind the company.
I hear their melodies through the
closed window, and wish I could
    compose such complexities.
The birds stay by my windowsill
til noon, and I drink coffee and
slice up fruit and marvel at the
    enigma of loneliness.

Early morning heat filters through the canopy
where brown backed squirrels tease the dogs.

You received a letter. It disappoints you in part but the second page turns everything around and you get excited.

    written within paper, the silence
    visible in white letters

turning to another page, a message
    readable in black …

“Knock, knock! Look in the closet”

    *looks in the closet*

    “surprise!”

A cat follows you to the store. Then a dog. Then a bird. Suddenly, a bunch of animals are following to your house. What do you do?

  • Poet on the Piano replied to Everlasting

I slowly make my way back from town at dusk,
letting my mind wander as an orange stray
    cat darts past me.

I nod my head slightly at it, watching
birds gather near the fountain, as I turn
down an alleyway, a shortcut to my house.

The orange cat is now behind me, and I
smile while I walk, even slower now.
I glance backwards and notice a fuzzy shadow
appearing to the cat's side, an older dog.

I stop walking and turn around to see what
they'll do next. I barely register the birds
on the apartment balconies left and right.
The sun's brilliant colors paint the buildings
in glorious red and dazzling orange, my eyes
needing to adjust to the sudden burst of color.

The animals sit and watch me, like something
    out of a fairytale. They don't circle or threaten me;
    they're only curious.

I say "hello" aloud, softly, and at that greeting,
they start marching around me like they're in a parade.
My mouth opens and to my utter surprise and delight,
the older dogs starts playing a banjo with his paws,
a banjo that appeared out of thin air.
I look around in awe and hear more music,
shadows dancing gaily left and right.
The orange cat holds a flute,
    sweet music complementing the banjo,
and the birds sing high verses with
tangible music notes streaming out of their
    beaks like wisps of smoke.

I smile to myself, hoping this isn't a dream.

Write about your first experience being lost or by yourself. Were you young, were you older and it was a simple wrong turn somewhere? Were you lost in other terms of the word?

  • Everlasting replied to Poet on the Piano
    2 years ago

the first time I got lost, I was young

i closed my eyes, and there was nothing

    It was empty

My heart felt a void, an untouchable vastness

    while simultaneously

    somewhere … unsure where,

    I felt everything.

    peace, fear, frustration, happiness

    numbness

    sadness

    joy

    whatever more

    whatever more

    .
    .
    .

it just intensified as my eye-lids opened up.

    since then

    I’ve been lost

looking for ways to lose myself even further

    because this type of lost

    it’s the kind

that helps to open up our eyes
