Marking

I agree that offensive commentators or plagiarists should be punished somehow, but I do not think, that mark is the best idea...for now

I suppose maybe we need some other solution. Any suggestions - except marking :) ?

how about suspending their ability to post new poems and quotes, and the deletion of all plagarized poems and quotes.

but itsn't that what we do now delete the poems.

I still think its to easy, this seems to have been going on forever now and nothing every changes.

The marking may not be orginal for this site, but it really works on my other poetry site. Thats why I suggested it in the first place.

i'll post the line one more time so you will have a better idea what i'm talking about:http://www.poemranker.com/user-browse.jsp?id=13181

if you scroll down you will see that each poem plagarized is highlighted in red. With a banner across the top of the profile giving the reason why they have the "mark" in there profile.

The woman who posted her plagarized work as you can tell hasn't posted any more plagarized poems once the ball was on a roll.

Another site that uses the "mark" is http://somethingawful.com. On this site when you did something wrong they mark your profile with a red banner explaining what you have done wrong.

This seems to be effective elsewhere on other sites.
Like many others it would distraction them. Make you feel like oh crap what have I done.

When we were kids and got in trouble we got introuble by our parents. I'm sure not to many of us walk away with "its ok honey/son"....

on this site this goes on and on we slap there hands and let them continue. Sure we delete some poems, but they continue to post more plagarized poems. No this isn't because of hailie it was just the last straw.

You can't really just slap them on the hand and expect them not to do this again. In society we mark things. Prisioners wear a certain uniform to tell them apart, tattoos are a distinct mark to show our indivulaity from one another, business suits show a uniform of business, one of the oldest mark we wear is makeup; it's a definition of feminity, gangs mark each other by certain colors etc etc i could go on about our modern day marks we give each other.

why so then is it so wrong to not mark a plagarizer to show one another that they use others work and pass it on as there own?

The only way you could go about this without the "mark" would be moderator approval of new registrations, and to increase security and verification. There are to many young children so you couldn't do something like a pay-pal/credit card verification. So really the only thing left is the "mark".

The mark of the beast, hardcore.

Make them write a letter of apology
written 30 times. A deferent letter
every day. (30 days) or something
    like that.

they will change there IP address just like oh 'done with this stupid site" aka JPM.

what good will that do? they will come back. Set up an account when they are at school.

Big deal they will come back under a different name and plagarize some more.

    Banning is not strick enough.

**BUT** to help cut down on the issue:

maybe if you set up a control so were only allowed to post say 5 poems a week.
then having the mods search for plagarized poems, say 5 a day. This will cut down too.

I like that idea as well, how about you strip their awards away and make them earn them again. Like a punishment.

create a plagiary forum - I agree with jpm
“it won't be as bad as a "mark" but it won't be good either.”

if the plagiary forum were added,
should other members post in that forum
or p&q keep it locked for viewing only?
