Although i would like to say songs are like poetry, but i thnk they are different. Would anyone have an idea of how to create a song rather then a poem? I have tried and it never comes out good. I wanna make a song for my gf and then try to play to it on guitar. ANyone have advice or ideas?

Poetry is exactly like songs except, you need to have a chorus! Rhythm is key in writing songs. Follow your basic: verse 1, chorus, verse 2, chorus..etc. Last but not least: write from your heart man. Tell the girl what you want her to know.

Nobody: good advice, but not all songs have to be in that format.
You don't HAVE to have a chorus for a song, it depends on what type of poet and/or muscician you are. you also don't have to follow the format that Nobody descirbed, (though it is the design that most songs follow) all that I think you really need to have is rythm.
Oh yes, and poems pretty much are songs. I'd say write the words first, that way they will come out as strong and impactful that you want them too (if you figure out the arrangment of the music first, then write words to fit into the rythm, you probably wont come out saying what you want)
Then add the arrangement of notes in the format which you wish to partake in.
I am assuming that you are familiar with music considering you play guitar, so this shouldn't be too difficult.
    Have fun

i started song-writing before poetry so i'd probably just say think of a theme, a few rhymes and a tune. it's easier if you just think of a tune and make the words up as you go along, then if you think of something that sounds good, write it down.
