Why Not Rhyme?

A very good article, and true to the fact. Rhyming does sometimes limit our abilities as writters, but it can also throw us out into a great new world that we have never seen before.

I rhyme sometimes, and don't others. If I feel like the rhyme is restricting me, then I will just give it up. Though some readers want a steady pace; so if a poem starts with a rhyme, they hope the same scheme is throughout it.
Plus, you cannot write a sonnet without the rhyme, then it wouldn't be a sonnet.

But I think that new writers (which could include myself) should try to rhyme little so their minds can expand within a poem. As long as it has a flow, a rhyme isn't necessary... too often have I made the mistake that it is.

Though sometimes I do rhyme so it seems awkward. My poem "Fog Over Muse" was done like this to seem disjointed, giving is a bit of uniqueness. Many people probably wouldn't like that style, but I personally do.

Thanks for posting the article; very informative.

Hmm..... something still makes me believe that poetry without rhyming is just writing in incomplete sentences.

I have read plenty of poems that do not rhyme, yet they all have a poetic flow to them. There are many talented poets on this site that dont rhyme, and if you think non-rhyming poems don't seem very poetic, check there's out. You will see how well-written they can be.
