I don't have family or friends with this disorder but know of patients that do. Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disease caused by a defect in the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscle. It produces weakness of the voluntary muscles. It gets worse with activity and improves with rest. First sypmtoms may be eyelid movement and difficulty with swallowing. Alot of people have a tumor on the thymus gland, which is located in front of the chest. It can effect the bodies immune system. If u do have that a thymectomy can be done which is surgical removal. This could help with the weakness and medications being taken. Some eventually go into perament remisssion. I work in neurology/mental health so I hope I was of some help. |
