I googled this because of all the rebel fleg controversy....it didn't originally stand for racism, after the Civil Rights Movement people turned it in to that. I personally could care less one way or the other, I don't think there is anything wrong with it but I can see why people would be offended.

What is usually called "The Confederate Flag" or "The Confederate Battle Flag" (actually the Navy Jack as explained above) is still a widely-recognized symbol. The display of the flag is controversial and a very emotional issue, generally because of disagreement over exactly what it symbolizes. To many in the US South it is simply a symbol of regional pride and heritage. Others see it as a symbol of the institution of slavery which the Confederate government defended, or of the Jim Crow laws enforcing racial segregation in the Southern States for decades later. According to Civil War historian and southerner Shelby Foote, the flag traditionally represented the south's resistance to northern political dominance generally; it became racially charged during the Civil Rights Movement, when protecting segregation suddenly became the focal point of that resistance.

There is more to this article but I didn't want to take up the whole site lol

I don't like the rebel flag I never did. I don't care where it came from or what it stood for. I know so many people that use it today for racism ; and I so many times thought about taking it and burning it down in disgrace.. People call me a rebel but that doesn't mean I'll follow the flag and I don't care what anybody thinks about that either... Fu..ck the KKK and all you racist too... xx:

It only ever takes one man to take a perfectly good thing and fuck it up for everyone else.

Symbols of good luck and pride turned into symbols of tyrany and racism:

Confederate flags, (What about the Confederate Air Force, are they racist?) swastikas, black cats, whatever next?

The KKK does make me chuckle though...

I mean in all of the places in the world for a racist organisation to pop up and demand that blacks and asians (and anyone generally not pasty) go back to their home continent.

I wonder when they will take their own advice and scoot on back home to europe.

I live right in the middle of redneck land and some people here use the flag as some sort of racial thing and some don't. I myself believe in what it stood for before all that....it use to be about southern heritage.

The KKK is a joke and everyone should know that. They are stupid.

People hating other people for the color of their skin or their ethnic background is stupid too.

Thats all i have to say about that :)

gah you wanna talk about livin in the south and livin in the middle of redneck country?? i live in the middle of redneck mississippi...half the guys in my town have rebel flags on their trucks and the same guys have best friends that are black.. the rebel flag is racist to some ppl but to others it is simply a symbol of their culture the fact is that too many people don't know what their talkin about or just can't let things from the past go. i should know i have no problem with the rebel flag but at the same time some of my closest friends are black and i am not rascist at all
